Westminstenders: 1001 Ways to wait for EUCO - Sprouts, Nits and Brexit

Not much more to say other than, all we can do is wait to hear our fate.

Which seems to lie in the hands of Macron.

I think these tweet sums a lot of it up from a couple of jaded soft leavers

Iain Martin @ iainmartin1
This terrible farce in Brussels tonight is like being British during the eurovision song contest. British entrant awaits fate, watching humiliating results come in, trying to smile for the audience back home.

George Trefgarne @georgetrefgarne
To be honest I think Buck’s Fizz and Cheryl thingummy would have made a better job of it

My advice: Don't wait up!

Pippa Crerar @pippacrerar
EU source on Macron: "He is in a bit of a schizophrenic situation - (his) domestic audience demands that he is tough on Britain for historic reasons. On the other hand, France is among the most-hit in any no-deal Brexit. It will take hours before we pull him down from his tree."

So Macron may end up being the one who gets the UK what it wants but is doing it to be tough on us. I'm not sure I understand EU politics.

Morning all,
I love the diversions. I feel like I get to know people thru them and this is community not just a list or even a dry discussion of news.
Am toying with the Tiggers application having said a few days ago, before it came, that I couldn't ever do such a thing! Re the SM handles - presumably ones that link to your name?? - and I follow, like and even share some GC feminism on Twitter. Complete waste of time to even apply?? Would I have to delete it - do I want to do something where I completely censor myself?? Hmm

On topic again - I think for all the outrage in the press that MPs are getting their Spring recess actually a break and a rest sounds a Good Thing for them. Those who have been working flat out must be completely shattered and I do think that is most of them. But I think 6 weeks in the summer if we haven't got a 2nd referendum legislated for and awaited is too long. Not that what I think is at all relevant Grin

Off to Cambridge tomorrow and no bloody idea how I'm going to manage to walk round for hours so shall probably find a nice place to sit to people watch whilst dgd attends her masterclass.

My Bestie goes home today after 4 day visit. It was wonderful to see her as we haven't seen each other for over a year as like me, she has been fighting cancer. She also lost her mum through cancer at same time so has had an even awful time of it than me. But us working class are strong fighters!Grin we met over 30 years ago and are definitely peas in a pod!

vanitythynameisnotwoman · 12/04/2019 06:46

Sorry - I've not made my 1st qn very clear re: SM and Tiggers application. Names on here for eg which I change often and don't relate at all to elsewhere... ok to leave them off?? Or do I put my 20 or so MN nicknames in? Hmm I can see why it's put people off.

Carol Cadwalladr directly asking Boris Johnson if he lied. Some tweets here by Led by Donkeys and Marcus Ball, the guy who’s trying to prosecute Johnson. A loose mutually-supporting network of people with good intentions. This is how you win a fight.

We used to do waitressing at a local holiday camp ( a posh one) and we would try and outdo each other in speed and service to get top tips. She is 15 yes younger than me but I still held my own.Smile
The one thing I hated doing was carrying in the trout meals ( they were whole with those glassy eyes ugh!) And I would pay other waiters to carry them in for me if any of my punters ordered them as they really did make me feel sick! So my Beastie decided to collect all the heads one day and stuff them all in my 'doily' ( serving station cupboard) and next service I opened drawer to the sight of all those fish heads and screamed the place down and ran out to throw up! The whole dining room was in fits of laughter ( even my punters were in on it!). That's my Bestie for youGrin

William Morris has links to Merton and Wimbledon.

And Bloomsbury ( Holborn) and Hammersmith

NoWordForFluffy · 12/04/2019 07:03

Vanity, my reading of the question is that it's ALL of the names.

Whisky2014 · 12/04/2019 07:21

How does arrange tie into all this?

MissLucyHoneychurch · 12/04/2019 07:30

I'm giving myself a Brexit recess like Parliament. No bugger I know in real life gives a toss! I'm angsting about it and everyone else is just enjoying life Confused

Farewell cruel thread for an hour or two no doubt Fare thee well

BercowsSilkTie · 12/04/2019 07:32

Gosh it is quiet. The news is quiet too. Almost eerie after all the activity of the last months.

Iambuffy · 12/04/2019 07:35

I may also have an Easter break :)
I'm tired, it's been a loooooong term and I need to spend less time stressing.
I am hopeful, however.
Spring is (sort of) here.
Game of thrones starts on Sunday :)
I may get an Easter egg :)
So.....reasons to be happy :)
Happy Easter my friends to you and yours xxxx

NoWordForFluffy · 12/04/2019 07:35

Nothing's going to happen during the recess. It's all a bit odd!

It's good timing for me though as I'm back to work next week after 5 weeks off, so I won't have any Brexit distractions while I'm catching up!

TheMShip · 12/04/2019 07:41

Sostenuto there's a lovely cafe under one of the old churches, Michaelhouse Centre it's called, I highly recommend it as somewhere to sit for a couple of hours with a book.

LonelyTiredandLow · 12/04/2019 07:47

@Lark that is interesting about the tax directive as I was told that it is the offshore accounts which are worrysome for the likes of Farage/Mogg. In fact my 'in the know' friend said it was almost a deliberate loophole which he could see was where the EU were trying to investigate. We apparently haven't been so helpful about all of those little islands and the money held that the Guardian discovered...?

I personally think we should now all get to know our tax system rather better... Grin

averylongtimeago · 12/04/2019 07:47

I saw a snippet today - apparently the DUP is having discussions with Boris and his leadership campaign team.....

TheElementsSong · 12/04/2019 07:50

I love Led By Donkeys Grin - we were just giggling at that tweet over breakfast and will bung them another donation.

Oh, and Happy UnBrexit Day to the thread!

RedToothBrush · 12/04/2019 07:51

Pretty, spookily I think he got an extension to the end of April 11th!!! Had to be a Brexit related finish date surely!

New section 371RG will be inserted into chapter 18. This section will provide that a non-resident company will be a CFC where a UK company, either alone or together with its associated enterprises, holds more than a 50% investment in a non-resident company. This section will also provide a definition of an associated enterprise (by reference to a 25% investment test) and the relevant definitions of 50% investment and 25% investment. = I'm guessing this is the new clause to try to 'catch them out'. So they will fly under the radar if less than 50% is held offshore.

Would also love to know how the disaster capitalists are being monitored and admonished. I strongly suspect they aren't.

onalongsabbatical · 12/04/2019 08:10

May we continue to celebrate NoBrexit for many, many, many years to come.

Ah I fear the leave friend (who was posting memes about killing his daughter's future partner) has just posted this Troes lower than vermin link. Sorry for those without FB, I can't cut and paste it. He was quite an ardent Tory voter.

I think this is the UKIP and Brexit party at work. Although to be fair it could be something that popped up after the speech...

LonelyTiredandLow · 12/04/2019 08:16

*Tories

lonelyplanetmum · 12/04/2019 08:24

the DUP is having discussions with Boris and his leadership campaign team.....

FFS is that really what we need? Will that reunify the country?

For anyone who is too young or forgetful to remember Boris's earlier misdemeanours there are some links to a selection below.

His lies in the Leave campaign were entirely predictable. He had form.

He is not fit to be an MP let alone MP.

Some reminders...
