Westminstenders: 1001 Ways to wait for EUCO - Sprouts, Nits and Brexit

Not much more to say other than, all we can do is wait to hear our fate.

Which seems to lie in the hands of Macron.

I think these tweet sums a lot of it up from a couple of jaded soft leavers

Iain Martin @ iainmartin1
This terrible farce in Brussels tonight is like being British during the eurovision song contest. British entrant awaits fate, watching humiliating results come in, trying to smile for the audience back home.

George Trefgarne @georgetrefgarne
To be honest I think Buck’s Fizz and Cheryl thingummy would have made a better job of it

My advice: Don't wait up!

Pippa Crerar @pippacrerar
EU source on Macron: "He is in a bit of a schizophrenic situation - (his) domestic audience demands that he is tough on Britain for historic reasons. On the other hand, France is among the most-hit in any no-deal Brexit. It will take hours before we pull him down from his tree."

So Macron may end up being the one who gets the UK what it wants but is doing it to be tough on us. I'm not sure I understand EU politics.

Mother - maybe it's the angle of the sun causing a reflection which it is attracted to? I know my parents once put outlines of hawks onto some patio doors that had reflective glass, to discourage birds flying into it.

Motherofdrsgons it is attacking its reflection- you can sometimes stop them by hanging something in front of the window- like a flappy carrier bag or a couple of old cds

I've not watched KillingEve yet. (I watch TV about every 6 months)
But am racing through FB with a pack of Hotel Chocolate Dark Rum truffles. Ep 3 is currently Kristin Scott Thomas (adore) on the Menopause: 'it's horrendous then it's magnificent'. Apparently! Grin

Indirectly Brexit related question: when does Faisal Islam move to the BBC? I know that Beth Rigby is being promoted into his Political Editor job - I just don't know when it happens officially.

woman19 · 11/04/2019 23:17

mother? Perhaps it sees its reflection, and is attacking that? Give it some bird food at end of garden?

Paging Alexander Boris de Pfeffel

Disgraceful #HammersmithBridge has been closed for lack of maintenance when all that public money was wasted on the stupid #GardenBridge

(Hammersmith is another artery into over stretched London, now temporarily severed)

LonelyTiredandLow · 11/04/2019 23:18

@Stripey it's over too soon! Amazing though. Iplayer has Killing Eve (she wrote both so strong female characters with added depth Grin)

It just says 'in the new year' prettybird. Hope bbc doesn't clip his wings.

RedToothBrush · 11/04/2019 23:29

Pretty I've been wondering the same. I think he got the job in Jan, so I'm surprised he's not gone yet. Perhaps the deal is he goes after we leave the EU...

The extradition of Julian Assange to the US for exposing evidence of atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan should be opposed by the British government.

Chink chink

prettybird · 11/04/2019 23:41

That's what I was wondering Red Wink

....so a bit like May who has promised to go when the WA is passed Grin so not in the near future Wink

OublietteBravo · 11/04/2019 23:42

When does the EU anti tax avoidance directive come into force? Presumably before 31 October.

LarkDescending · 12/04/2019 00:44

OublietteBravo the Directive comes into force in phases, beginning on 1 January 2019. The UK has already complied with the provisions which are now in force, although it didn’t need to do a huge amount to achieve compliance on these because it already had a sophisticated regime covering CFCs.

William Morris has links to Merton and Wimbledon. The Wimbledon Labour Party is in William Morris House.

My mum grew up in Wimbledon and her old phone number exchange name was Liberty after William Morris and his famous prints. True fact.

GroovieGazelloo · 12/04/2019 05:18

Yolofish, why not compromise? Go for it and wear a mask...

Prettybird, « The Westministender threads have become a wee community* » *
I could write a whole 2 hour essay on this. But, for reasons which I won’t go into, and trust already that people here will implicitly understand, I’ll give a short synopsis instead :
« Wee community » - Scottish-Mumsnet description of this Westminstender group: A group which has spent hours and hours fathoming out Brexit, accepting leavers and remainers that come and go as they please . A term which I’m loving because, here in France, I can picture you all, gathered around your little screens, sharing in this same Brexit morasse.
A collective term that loosely binds us. A group that gives us time to breathe ....😊

Which brings me to my thoughts on Dickens :
he was a social militant for the poor and everything he wrote should be seen in this light.
And Shakespeare:
The Spielberg of his time, he was a subversive writer, defying any who could only interpret his words but not catch him up in them - either in accordance with or in opposition to the establishment.

IMHO, both writers were lessons to us Westminteders, Lucy. 😁

Hope you’re enjoying your sprouts and choccies, one and all. 😽

Sostenueto · 12/04/2019 06:22

motheroffourdragons your bird sees reflection and thinks its a rival. It is guarding its territory. Its breeding season.

Sostenueto · 12/04/2019 06:26

So no deal preparations are being wound down. That IMO is not a good idea.Hmm
Will there be an inquiry into the money spent so far? Not on your Nelly.

Sostenueto · 12/04/2019 06:28

Assage ........hero or villain? Depends on whether you agree its OK for America to commit war atrocities or not.............

BelfastBloke · 12/04/2019 06:28

There's nothing to talk about any more!

Sostenueto · 12/04/2019 06:34

We could talk about poverty, crisis in NHS, education, austerity, social divisions in our society, right to free speech, rights, economic woes, human rights, crime, the breakdown of society, racial tensions......

Sostenueto · 12/04/2019 06:35

Oh and Brussels sprouts!Grin
