Westminstenders: Happy Brexit Day!

Happy Brexit day!

Oh wait. No its not.

May looks like she is going to bring the MVIII (Meaningful Vote 3) tomorrow minus the PD (political declaration).

The legalities of this are questionable should the vote pass. The MV needs to have an accompanying PD, by law under the terms of the Withdrawal Act.

That's kind of irrelevant given the likelihood of the deal passing anyway. The DUP have apparently negotiated a 'Stormont Lock' to get more assurances, only for them promptly to say there's no chance of them voting for the deal anyway.

The vote is all about Labour v Conservatives and where we can lay the blame for no deal in two weeks time.

Meanwhile we are already into a prolonged Tory Leader Election with all its glorious gentlemanly behaviour.

Anyway its time for extra time and national riots for delaying Brexit.

The only way to avoid a no deal now is for MPs to finally act next week & define a cross-party way forward. If they do, we are ready to change the Political Declaration.

jasjas1973 · 29/03/2019 16:00

Pretty got that hopelessly wrong didn't i !

Talking of comedians, this latest missive from ballsup inc:

{Britain has been shaping the world for centuries. That won’t change with Brexit: article by Jeremy Hunt

Writing in the Washington Post, the Foreign Secretary says there is no doubt that Britain will retain all the capabilities of a global power after Brexit.

As Wera Hobhorse stated, she'd get the WA across the line if she attached it to a second PV.

I wonder if she will consider that for Monday so that it's different, otherwise EM kicks in and she won't be allowed to present it again? Or is the Maybot totally broken and can't see past the WA as it is?

TiddleTaddleTat · 29/03/2019 16:02

I can't stand TM but I'm kind of grateful for her ineptitude. She couldn't even pass her deal when she promised to resign. And her belligerence is keeping JRM and his extremist bunch away from No 10 for now.

Is it just me, or is that a little too pokey-nosey into the UK political (non) process Hmm Correct or not ?

TiddleTaddleTat · 29/03/2019 16:03

I don't mean belligerent. Stubborn I guess. It's been a long day. You know you're stressed when you read about Brexit for some light relief, ha ha!

This is potentially useful for encouraging people to sign the revoke petition? What has the EU done for us?

PostNotInHaste · 29/03/2019 16:04

Respect to you all who sat through it, I got side tracked and missed it. Just seen my MP actually voted for it which seeing as he was was hardcore and a signatory on Bill Cash letter is quite a turn around. He sent an email before it saying quite a few things and said he would listen to what was said today.

I’d sent an email (before the TM resigning and separating the WA and PD thing) asking him to be pragmatic and to compromise at this point and vote for it which I felt was the best could hope for from him then regretted it with recent events. But he has been listening to people I think which is positive.

woodpigeons · 29/03/2019 16:05

Sky news said she wants to run her deal off with the leading indicative vote.

DGRossetti · 29/03/2019 16:06

I really can't see a PV of any shape or size coming out of this parliament.

If MPs can't decide what Brexit they want, despite "the will of the people" then how the fuck are they ever going to agree on a minimum of two options on a referendum ?

And that's before you start a bun fight about requiring a certain minimum majority plus a lock to ensure all 4 nations of the UK agree ?

Sorry, but I think PV is a busted flush. Only MPs get second votes, and we should really learn our place as subjects not citizens.

Didn't do Boris and Grease-Smug any good then, did it, voting with Theresa May?

lonelyplanetmum · 29/03/2019 16:18

Didn't do Boris and Grease-Smug any good then, did it, voting with Theresa May?

We don't fully know ( other than her head on a platter) what they were promised on Sunday last.

What will be on offer this weekend to others I wonder?

ElenadeClermont · 29/03/2019 16:19

DGR My (and Malcolm Tucker's) translation of the Guy Verhofstadt tweet is: come the fck in or fck the f*ck off.

67chevvyimpala · 29/03/2019 16:20

I concur

Peregrina · 29/03/2019 16:21

Did they make the mistake of trusting what she said?
