Westminstenders: Happy Brexit Day!

Happy Brexit day!

Oh wait. No its not.

May looks like she is going to bring the MVIII (Meaningful Vote 3) tomorrow minus the PD (political declaration).

The legalities of this are questionable should the vote pass. The MV needs to have an accompanying PD, by law under the terms of the Withdrawal Act.

That's kind of irrelevant given the likelihood of the deal passing anyway. The DUP have apparently negotiated a 'Stormont Lock' to get more assurances, only for them promptly to say there's no chance of them voting for the deal anyway.

The vote is all about Labour v Conservatives and where we can lay the blame for no deal in two weeks time.

Meanwhile we are already into a prolonged Tory Leader Election with all its glorious gentlemanly behaviour.

Anyway its time for extra time and national riots for delaying Brexit.

The Moggsters blew it with the attempted premature ejection.

Only way to shift her now is mass-resgnations from the govt, and even then she might not shift until they reverse her wiring and plug her into the mains.

DGRossetti · 29/03/2019 15:29

To anyone who staked £100 on the UK remaining a member of the EU on 30th March 2019 immediately after A50 was triggered ...

well done ! Grin Wine

Let us know what odds you got. I know it's pathetic, and I know it's childish, and I know that I should know better, but it's tempting to start a special thread just for people to discuss what they will do with their winnings.

Or are we still supposed to be scaredy about the poor ickle Brexiteers ?

TatianaLarina · 29/03/2019 15:29

What happens when hell is full?

We get an extension. Wine

MockerstheFeManist · 29/03/2019 15:32

An Extension to Hell

....Swindon?

DadDadDad · 29/03/2019 15:33

What happens when hell is full?

It gets an extension...

DGRossetti · 29/03/2019 15:33

Only way to shift her now is mass-resgnations from the govt

Why would that work ? They're tories. You know there'd be a queue of people to step into the vacancies and further their careers "for the sake of the country".

and even then she might not shift until they reverse her wiring and plug her into the mains.

The only way she will go is by resigning, or losing a vote of no confidence and going for a general election.

Can any of the more informed posters (maybe the new Tory party recruits Grin) tell me if the Tory Leader rules change if there's a general election ? Otherwise even that may not shift her.

I think she's picked up some bad habits from sticking her head up Trumps arse ... maybe she thinks she's elected for five years as PM ?

They don't want to be associated with this fecal cabaret.

Thatcher went when her cabinet came and told her, one by one, time was up.

And all this "My Way! My Way! No Compromise, Crush All Resistance!" crap is largely down to her.

TatianaLarina · 29/03/2019 15:38

Sorry dad!

prettybird · 29/03/2019 15:38

Dh thought that my "friends" on Westministenders would appreciate this tweet GrinWine

Oh, no hard feelings, Tatiana, shows what a boringly predictable great joke it was! Grin

howabout · 29/03/2019 15:44

Careful what you wish for. Given Tory grassroots are swinging behind Deal and current polls TM may well decide on GE to endorse Her Deal and Win (and then have the Leadership election). Sad

DGRossetti · 29/03/2019 15:45

Thatcher went when her cabinet came and told her, one by one, time was up.

Yes, but if she hadn't, she would have lost the vote. She was given a chance to leave with dignity which she was sharp enough to take. And while it was a nasty few weeks, she got her peerage, and died lauded by millions (well as many people as hated her).

Theresa May faces no such danger. She can't be forced out by a vote of no confidence because the unbelievably thick ERG failed to think things through.

Anyway, I'm ambivalent about her remaining as PM. The fact she is still here - against all odds - appears to have a withering effect on the ERG. They have repeatedly held meetings, issued communiques and told us how things are going to be and repeatedly could not have been more wrong.

As long as each vote - regardless of what parliamentary sorcery gets it resurrected - pits different flavours of Leaver against each other, we are not leaving this place.

Interestingly the one Conservative party that is unlikely to deselect Theresa May is her local one - at 55% remain.

Sostenueto · 29/03/2019 15:46

I'm not being too complacent as TM got 100 votes more this time and she will present it again probably try to on Monday. Only 58 majority to No's its not enough for her to stop presenting it. So although I'm really pleased we won round 1, 2, and 3 I think there well be a 4 or a 5 and she's whittling awaySad. Gove now saying TM will gave to put customs union in deal to present it again ?( Sigh)

Sostenueto · 29/03/2019 15:46

Have to

Sostenueto · 29/03/2019 15:47

Now having cream cake to celebrate!

DGRossetti · 29/03/2019 15:47

I'm not being too complacent as TM got 100 votes more this time and she will present it again probably try to on Monday.

Rather raises the question of what a 2nd or 3rd referendum would have delivered ?

Lexilooo · 29/03/2019 15:48

At the march last week I saw a placard that seems most appropriate now, it said

^A traditionally British way to get out of this mess:
Step 1: Get a short extension
Step 2: Revoke Article 50 on 01/04/19
Step 3: Claim that the entire silly little Brexit thing was an april fools joke to wind up the rest of the EU
Step 4: Patronisingly assert that anyone who doesn't believe step 3 isn't sophisticated enough to get British humour^

Might send that to Theresa now......

Horehound · 29/03/2019 15:50

Ian blackford talking sense again

67chevvyimpala · 29/03/2019 15:50

I'm happy for today.

Tomorrow is another clusterfuck.

TiddleTaddleTat · 29/03/2019 15:51

Placemarking ... just in time for a new thread!

DGRossetti · 29/03/2019 15:51

Patronisingly assert that anyone who doesn't believe step 3 isn't sophisticated enough to get British humour

Be curious to know if there's a marked difference in Leavers sense of humour, and remainers ? If I were to say Roy "Chubby" Brown, Dapper Laughs, Mrs Browns boys, what would folk here say Grin

woman19 · 29/03/2019 15:52

Careful what you wish for
Good point, howabout leave could still win a ref. Leave is dominating SM particularly FB.
And nice to see you.Smile

ElenadeClermont · 29/03/2019 15:55

Thank you Mr Prettybird Marina always cheers me up.

I have done so much cross stitch and crochet recently, that I filled up another storage box. If this Brexshit goes on much longer, we will have to buy a bigger house.

Triglesoffy · 29/03/2019 15:55

So what happens now?? Are we crashing out in a fortnight?
