Westminstenders: Happy Brexit Day!

Happy Brexit day!

Oh wait. No its not.

May looks like she is going to bring the MVIII (Meaningful Vote 3) tomorrow minus the PD (political declaration).

The legalities of this are questionable should the vote pass. The MV needs to have an accompanying PD, by law under the terms of the Withdrawal Act.

That's kind of irrelevant given the likelihood of the deal passing anyway. The DUP have apparently negotiated a 'Stormont Lock' to get more assurances, only for them promptly to say there's no chance of them voting for the deal anyway.

The vote is all about Labour v Conservatives and where we can lay the blame for no deal in two weeks time.

Meanwhile we are already into a prolonged Tory Leader Election with all its glorious gentlemanly behaviour.

Anyway its time for extra time and national riots for delaying Brexit.

Gosh - do you remember how cool we were back when the Queen became the oldest ever Bond girl, and she turned up at the opening ceremony in the same outfit she wore in the little film - just after the stunt man had jumped out of a helicopter in the same dress?

I will never forgive David Cameron and the rest of them for what they have done to this country since then.

NoWordForFluffy · 29/03/2019 16:23

Did they make the mistake of trusting what she said?

Schoolboy error, if so, given her record.

LizzieSiddal · 29/03/2019 16:24

I can't stand TM but I'm kind of grateful for her ineptitude. She couldn't even pass her deal when she promised to resign. And her belligerence is keeping JRM and his extremist bunch away from No 10 for now.

I've said this from Day 1. She was pretty inept as a Home Secretary, but kept her head down and managed to stay on for years. She couldnt do that as PM, her ineptitude has been exposed but she's manged to keep us from a hard brexit, sofar!

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 29/03/2019 16:25

Interesting that Sky News chose to interview two Russian women supporting No Deal at the Brexit rally just now...

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2019 16:26

As much as she annoys me at times I’m glad she doesn’t fold to the ERGers wanting a no deal

SusanWalker · 29/03/2019 16:26

My favourite bit of the Olympics was when the crowd booed Osbourne because of his cuts.

Have we really changed so much in seven years? Or are some voices just a hell of a lot louder than they were and are drowning out every one else?

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2019 16:26

Although it may still happen

The80sweregreat · 29/03/2019 16:27

Jeremy Corbyn is missing an own goal ; standing behind a people's vote is much less damaging than banging on about an election HE WILL LOSE.
He is more deluded than TM.

Icantreachthepretzels · 29/03/2019 16:29

Or are some voices just a hell of a lot louder than they were and are drowning out every one else?

They're not even drowning out everyone else. The media and the government are simply choosing to tune out everyone else.

How is their rioting going?

RhubarbCrumbled · 29/03/2019 16:30

Sam Coates Times

Multiple government sources suggesting that there is a "run-off" idea circulated "the moment the numbers became clear"

This would mean pitting her deal against the strongest proposal from indicative votes process

No I don't know how it would work. And @paulwaugh got there first.

Peregrina · 29/03/2019 16:31

HE WILL LOSE.
Not sure, I would predict another hung Parliament. It would be delicious if both Labour and Tories tied, and neither leader was trusted by the other parties, so no coalition deals were on the table, unless it was a genuine cross party coalition like the war time one.

He is more deluded than TM.

Have to agree.

yolofish · 29/03/2019 16:31

pretzels I might just go and watch my BBC London Olympics DVD box set tonight (sad git that I am). We were all so optimistic then, and even those who said it would all be rubbish had come round to it by the end and acclaimed it a wonderful thing. OTH I am not so sad that I will not skip past sodding Paul McCartney!!

EweSurname · 29/03/2019 16:32

Is this a wishful interpretation? I didn't see it so no idea how true this is

@OFOCBrexit
Nigel Dodds!! on the BBC:

"We will look at any option. At the end of the day why should we believe that it was right to vote Leave? When we were in the EU people were quite happy with that in N Ireland because we were there together with everybody else."

DGRossetti · 29/03/2019 16:37

Just seen a snippy comment on how parliament gets another vote on how we don't get another vote on Monday.

It's hard to imagine (although I bet this shower could surpass expectations) a more corrosive effect on democracy, coming immediately after Iraq, Expenses and Sleaze ....

Icantreachthepretzels · 29/03/2019 16:40

even those who said it would all be rubbish had come round to it by the end and acclaimed it a wonderful thing.

I must admit I was one of the ones braced for it to be shamefully, cringingly awful - thinking we would show ourselves up terribly on the world stage. Oh well ... I only had 4 more years to wait. We outdid ourselves. Both in 2012 in a good way and ever since 2016 in the worst possible way.

europa.eu/rapid/press-release_STATEMENT-19-1914_en.htm

European Commission - Statement
Statement by the European Commission on the vote on the Withdrawal Agreement in the House of Commons

Brussels, 29 March 2019
The Commission regrets the negative vote in the House of Commons today. As per the European Council (Article 50) decision on 22 March, the period provided for in Article 50(3) is extended to 12 April. It will be for the UK to indicate the way forward before that date, for consideration by the European Council.
A “no-deal” scenario on 12 April is now a likely scenario. The EU has been preparing for this since December 2017 and is now fully prepared for a “no-deal” scenario at midnight on 12 April. The EU will remain united. The benefits of the Withdrawal Agreement, including a transition period, will in no circumstances be replicated in a “no-deal” scenario. Sectoral mini-deals are not an option.

HazardGhost · 29/03/2019 16:45

I'm tired.

Was just day dreaming/nightmaring that TM resigns next wk when a PV with revoke option magically comes into fact of being. She is replaced by someone righter and just yucky who campaigns for no deal Leave. Leave loses referendum, yucky PM resigns the morning of the results as David Cameron did walking away mournfully whistling. Full circle. This whole mess will have been for absolutely nothing. Waste of time, waste of money and we all kinda dislike each other.

Think I need to get more sleep...

woodpigeons · 29/03/2019 16:48

Corbyn wants Brexit, he has never wavered from this, so wouldn’t take the risk of a PV.
Although I don’t support him, and have found him disappointing and ineffectual for many reasons, I can grudgingly respect him for sticking to his principles.
Yours
Another disaffected labour voter

Oh dear. Embarrassing display.

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2019 16:50

In 2016 Corbyn said he wanted to Remain

Has he officially said he doesn’t since then?

RedToothBrush · 29/03/2019 16:51

Faisal Islam @faisalislam
Minister tells me of a meeting of ministers with the PM in Downing St now following the third defeat of her Withdrawal Agreement... not about standing down but significant, nonetheless.
