Westminstenders: Happy Brexit Day!

Happy Brexit day!

Oh wait. No its not.

May looks like she is going to bring the MVIII (Meaningful Vote 3) tomorrow minus the PD (political declaration).

The legalities of this are questionable should the vote pass. The MV needs to have an accompanying PD, by law under the terms of the Withdrawal Act.

That's kind of irrelevant given the likelihood of the deal passing anyway. The DUP have apparently negotiated a 'Stormont Lock' to get more assurances, only for them promptly to say there's no chance of them voting for the deal anyway.

The vote is all about Labour v Conservatives and where we can lay the blame for no deal in two weeks time.

Meanwhile we are already into a prolonged Tory Leader Election with all its glorious gentlemanly behaviour.

Anyway its time for extra time and national riots for delaying Brexit.

Get a cat if you can, BercowsSilkTie, you won't regret it! If more people adopt cats as a result of this thread then I guess at least one good thing will have come from Brexit.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 29/03/2019 12:39

Who was the LibDem MP speaking before Raab? I missed her name.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 29/03/2019 12:40

Don't worry, the Guardian tells me it was Wera Hobhouse. Never heard of her tbh but she spoke well about the need for an extension and a second ref.

SisterMichael · 29/03/2019 12:41

PMK

BigChocFrenzy · 29/03/2019 12:43

Thanks, red 💐

Since reportedly some Leavers haven't realised Brexit has been postponed, I wonder if there will be celebration street parties, on a few rather ill-informed streets

or even an MN Independence Day thread ? Surfer ?

No, it would be cruel for us to start one, Grin despite the temptation

havingtochangeusernameagain · 29/03/2019 12:43

I have come to the sad conclusion that neither this government nor this parliament is willing to leave with no deal. We therefore run the risk of being forced to accept an even worse version of Brexit or losing Brexit altogether

This apparently from BoJo. Quite significant I'd say - if he doesn't think no deal is going to happen.

"even worse version of Brexit" - softer Brexit - I could live with that

"losing Brexit altogether" - fantastic.

BigChocFrenzy · 29/03/2019 12:44

Happy Birthday, @Calloway** 💐🎂

Yes, if we ever get Brexit, pity the poor sods on whose birthday it lands

havingtochangeusernameagain · 29/03/2019 12:44

Times also reporting that preparations for EP elections being stepped up.

That's better news than Operation Yellowhammer.

Icantreachthepretzels · 29/03/2019 12:46

Didn't Wera Hobhouse do an amazing speech on the night of the indicative votes?

Interesting point of view howabout, I bet there are a lot of leavers feeling like you. And if this was ever about the 'will of the people' that would be what happened. Unfortunately it was about disaster capitalists making money - and through the ERG they are going to their damndest to make sure this shitshow continues until they are very very rich(er) and we are all very very poor.

I swing between wild optimism and crushing despair on the vote today. I don't know how I'm going to make it through the next 2 hours.

insaneduetobrexit · 29/03/2019 12:46

What does PMK mean? ConfusedConfused

1tisILeClerc · 29/03/2019 12:47

{No, it would be cruel for us to start one, Grin despite the temptation}

It's almost worth starting one and cut and pasting some of the original 'leave' We won get over it posts.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/03/2019 12:48

Liz Kendall is the closest thing to a mumsnetter in Parliament.
I agreed with every word she said

Also Sir Christopher Chope. Tory backbencher apis going to vote against the motion

1tisILeClerc · 29/03/2019 12:48

PMK, a corruption of placemarking.

Icantreachthepretzels · 29/03/2019 12:48

PMK is placemarking. Which got turned into place mat king by autocorrect.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/03/2019 12:48

Sorry my mistake. He’s voting for the tossers

havingtochangeusernameagain · 29/03/2019 12:49

PMK= placemarking. Not sure why people do it, I just come back to the thread every so often to see what's going on.

prettybird · 29/03/2019 12:49

I looked up Wera Hobhouse yesterday (or was it the day before every day is Groundhog Day, they all merge together Hmm?) as someone on here mentioned how good her contribution to a debate had been.

Good to "see" you howabout Smile. It's ok if you're not keen on Carney Wink Just as well, he's mine Grin I can understand the attraction of Yanis Wink - but not King Shock

tobee · 29/03/2019 12:49

You flick away from Liz Kendall one minute, you change back and she's turned into Christopher Chope. Envy

1tisILeClerc · 29/03/2019 12:49

Place , (plaice or other fishy things)
Mark, (Mat, rug or similar)
King, (regal person).

Love Anna Soubry. Feisty!

jasjas1973 · 29/03/2019 12:55

Pretty

Too many Labour MPs will be voting for the WA and of course, even if May loses by a few votes, she can have at least one more go!

Why isn't Anna Soubry PM ?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/03/2019 12:57

Eh? Theresa May has lost the vote twice. If she fails again she should be out.

A brief marriage ends. DUP learning today that many in ERG = Brexiteers first Unionists second. DUP = Unionists first and Brexiteers second. So DUP would countenance long extension / customs union over PM’s deal while ERG will support PM’s deal over long extension / customs union

Icantreachthepretzels · 29/03/2019 12:58

PMK= placemarking. Not sure why people do it, I just come back to the thread every so often to see what's going on.

Once you're on a thread it's easier to find it again - but if you have nothing relevant to post at the time you just stick a marker down. People used to write 'place marking' but one day (it may have been a night - I think it was during the crazy time of the election when threads were filling up practically every hour) autocorrect changed one poster's place mark to 'place mat king'. Which became a joke. Then someone putting down their place mat king got auto corrected to plaice mat king ... and the rest is fishtory.
