Westminstenders: Happy Brexit Day!

Happy Brexit day!

Oh wait. No its not.

May looks like she is going to bring the MVIII (Meaningful Vote 3) tomorrow minus the PD (political declaration).

The legalities of this are questionable should the vote pass. The MV needs to have an accompanying PD, by law under the terms of the Withdrawal Act.

That's kind of irrelevant given the likelihood of the deal passing anyway. The DUP have apparently negotiated a 'Stormont Lock' to get more assurances, only for them promptly to say there's no chance of them voting for the deal anyway.

The vote is all about Labour v Conservatives and where we can lay the blame for no deal in two weeks time.

Meanwhile we are already into a prolonged Tory Leader Election with all its glorious gentlemanly behaviour.

Anyway its time for extra time and national riots for delaying Brexit.

I just popped over to the Leave rally thread. I may have missed it, but amongst the Leavers who posted on it, did any of them say that they were going to attend? I noted several posts pre-explaining why there wouldn't be a good attendance (including, apparently, it being "too cold" plus because there might be riots due to there being a subset of rightwing knobheads), plenty of posts expressing displeasure at Remainers insulting Leavers (apparently by suggesting there might be riots due to there being a subset of rightwing knobheads), and a fair number of posts saying that they personally wouldn't be attending because there might be riots due to a subset of rightwing knobheads.

If only I'd realised that all I had to do was NC and say I voted Leave, and I could have been happily calling a subset of Leaver protesters, rioting rightwing knobheads Grin

Thanks for explaining PMK - I thought I had missed an inside joke.

Fingers crossed Brexit does not happen.

I'm back!

So...what's occurring?

TatianaLarina · 29/03/2019 13:04

The Conservative peer Sayeeda Warsi has said she is fearful of the idea of Michael Gove becoming prime minister, saying she and other senior members of the Tory party are concerned about his views on British Muslims.

The former Tory chairman, who is Muslim, said any party that elected Gove as a leader “has got major problems” in the light of his views.

This WA is probably terrible for both Remainers and Leavers, so will cause even greater rifts for years.

CordeliaEarhart · 29/03/2019 13:05

Curly, sorry for the late reply - my post was in response to the TIG submitting an application to become a proper political party so that they can stand in the EP elections. Obvs I'd need to wait to see a manifesto before actually deciding how to vote but I think they are worth a punt, particularly in the EP elections as (I believe) they have a proportional representation system.

DGR, I agree with you about Grieve's naivety - but our entire system seems built on the idea that politicians behave in an (at least reasonably) honourable way and I think most people have been shocked by how untrue that is. And how vulnerable our system is to abuse by a few.

DarlingNikita · 29/03/2019 13:06

Thanks Red. I think it still won't pass. Labour won't support it. The ERG is split but people like Johnson have backtracked on supporting May, so I think the majority will not support it. The DUP will vote for it on a cold day in hell.

wheresmymojo · 29/03/2019 13:07

Oh....Bercow, definitely get a cat. They bring me so much joy!

...and you can name him after our most loved Speaker Grin

HazardGhost · 29/03/2019 13:07

wheresmymojo · 29/03/2019 13:07

MayhemandMadness01 · 29/03/2019 13:09

Just watching the news, sounds like they may get this vote through

tobee · 29/03/2019 13:09

BBC's Norman Smith just saying he thinks May still won't quite have the numbers. Let's hope that's right.

tobee · 29/03/2019 13:10

X post with Mayhem GrinShows it's a knife edge

keepforgettingmyusername · 29/03/2019 13:10

I think the deal might just go through. Lots of reports of Labour MPs bottling it.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/03/2019 13:11

Can’t believe Rebecca Poww is supporting the WA. She was a retainer and is sucking up to the Tories. Thumbs down.

prettybird · 29/03/2019 13:11

There are still quite a few Conservative MPs who are continuing to say that they'll vote against the WA.

Unless there is a significant rebellion amongst Leave supporting Labour MPs, I don't see how it can pass - although it may be closer than previous votes Hmm

SisterMichael · 29/03/2019 13:12

Sorry haven’t RTFT - MV3 is today??

67chevvyimpala · 29/03/2019 13:12

I've always worried it'll scrape through.

1tisILeClerc · 29/03/2019 13:13

I would put an incredibly small bet on it being a tie so that the speaker gets to chose!

NoWordForFluffy · 29/03/2019 13:13

Afternoon. I got out this morning with a friend, so have just caught up.

I agree that it's good to get outside; I've been to the allotment a few times this week and, even though I really can't do much other than light, left-handed, weeding, it's really made me feel so much happier.

There was a small tortoiseshell (I think, after a quick Google!) butterfly enjoying my grape hyacinth, which I planted to attract bees and butterflies, so it was brilliant to see that my plan worked!

It also illustrated the fact that we're in the hungry gap, however, as nothing is anywhere near ready for harvest.

Turning to today (finally, I know!), happy birthday @Calloway!

I only watched Wera Hobhouse having been out and I thought she was great at trying to find compromise on the basis of another PV being promised. She impressed me, as did Anna Soubry (as ever).

I turned off when Raab was called; I can't stomach watching Brexiters banging on.

I keep swinging between thinking the WA wil squeak through, to calling myself stupid and that it can't possibly pass! I have to go and do the school run at 2.45, so would like to know what's going on before I go.

The DUP will vote for it on a cold day in hell.

Let's just hope they're not familiar with Dante's Inferno, then. Shock

ColdNeverBotheredMeAnyway · 29/03/2019 13:14

Long time lurker, catching up... just reading above. I did notice how the shouting behind the BBC talking heads today was louder and more disruptive - using air horns and chanting. I just thought it was the usual protest ramped up..

Then I looked up at the TV to see a UKIP flag behind the presenters. So the usual Pro-EU "Stooooop Brexit" folks have been moved on, to be replaced by pro-Leave people? And they are the reason that the protest has gone from peaceful to bloody disruptive so that we sometimes can't hear people speak?

SusanWalker · 29/03/2019 13:14

I just love Liz Saville Roberts' voice.
