Westminstenders: Happy Brexit Day!

Happy Brexit day!

Oh wait. No its not.

May looks like she is going to bring the MVIII (Meaningful Vote 3) tomorrow minus the PD (political declaration).

The legalities of this are questionable should the vote pass. The MV needs to have an accompanying PD, by law under the terms of the Withdrawal Act.

That's kind of irrelevant given the likelihood of the deal passing anyway. The DUP have apparently negotiated a 'Stormont Lock' to get more assurances, only for them promptly to say there's no chance of them voting for the deal anyway.

The vote is all about Labour v Conservatives and where we can lay the blame for no deal in two weeks time.

Meanwhile we are already into a prolonged Tory Leader Election with all its glorious gentlemanly behaviour.

Anyway its time for extra time and national riots for delaying Brexit.

I have to admit to having a bit of a crush on Mark Carrney BlushGrin

in addition to his looks Wink I love the way that he unashamedly calls himself "just" a technocrat. Smile

I've felt this way about him Wink ever since watching his press conference about the BoE's view of how Scottish independence could/would be managed from a monetary perspective (which differed from how it was presented by the state broadcaster and MSM). For example, he said that Scotland could use the £ - and that it was his job as a technocrat to make things work - bit he did warn that there was a degree of sovereignty that would be lost ("but that in a globalised world, monetary sovereignty was limited anyway" - those weren't the words he used but that was the sentiment).

He was not "anti-independence": he was very carefully neutral Halo

I also feel sorry for the abuse that he receives for the "predictions that don't happen". It's his job to warn about potential consequences and then to try to mitigate the effects. So, for example, the fact that he implemented a massive Quantitative Easing exercise post the referendum (the modern equivalent of "printing money") is ignored Confused

At the risk of rhyming, Grieve seems a tad naive for the job he's in ... he was quite happy to initially accept assurances over binding measures because he thinks the Tory party is a gentlemans party. Or that's my take.

AutumnCrow · 29/03/2019 12:08

DGR, I think he's had his eyes opened a little, that it's becoming a careers fair.

jasjas1973 · 29/03/2019 12:11

Raab will back WA, i think it's a done deal now.

woman19 · 29/03/2019 12:15

For those concerned about Steve, here's a tweet from earlier.

He's a patriot and retired serviceman (like a lot of #Sodem folks) they are experienced and wise about these sort of situations.

Grieve's blessing and curse is that he is a gentleman.

Lots of MPs seem to be now switching and voting for the (blind rubbish) deal. I really hope it doesn’t get through Sad

Picture didn't post?

Ross Kempsell
@rosskempsell
Labour people who are counting the numbers convinced there is ‘no chance’ of a significant rebellion on their whip today

prettybird · 29/03/2019 12:20

It's very definitely not a Done Deal. Confused

As long as the DUP are still opposing it, there are enough Conservative MPs (like Grieve) to counterbalance those Labour MPs (like Field and Mann) who will vote for it, even if the ERG volte face en masse Hmm

tobee · 29/03/2019 12:22

So annoyed to hear Adam Boulton saying at the end of his piece that there aren't pro Europe people outside parliament and that they've left to UKIP and pro leave. Like the remainers are being nice or something. Not that they've been advised not to turn for safety reasons.

prettybird · 29/03/2019 12:22

Woman - it did post 1st time, but sometimes pictures don't initially appear on the app but not on the desktop version or vice versa Confused

MarshaBradyo · 29/03/2019 12:22

What would people prefer the WA or no deal?

I mean I’d love something else but doubt it will happen

woman19 · 29/03/2019 12:25

Thank you prettybird Smile lots of breakfasts. Blush

wheresmymojo · 29/03/2019 12:25

With a gun to my head I'd choose the WA over no deal even though I spitefully think it would serve some of the leavers right to feel the impact of a no deal

WhatdoImean · 29/03/2019 12:27

With the majority of the HoC being against no deal, there is the probability that if this gets voted down today, there will be a long extension. IF there is a long extension, VERY likely that the EU will insist on a new vote; based on current opinion it looks like there would be a majority for remain now.

It is the above reasoning that has brought he ERG round to supporting May on this current vote. It is my hope that the current vote fails - risky, I know, but better than this shower leading us into negotiations.

tobee · 29/03/2019 12:27

Sorry just come to this thread today. Checking everyone is aware that the vote is at 2.30pm?

TheWomanin12B · 29/03/2019 12:34

I think the WA as presented today will lead to No Deal anyway, so I'll take the risk and hope it fails. Confused

tobee · 29/03/2019 12:34

Sorry to make it "one of those" threads WinkGrin

prettybird · 29/03/2019 12:35

Grin Thank you Wink

howabout · 29/03/2019 12:36

Just popping in to see the lie of the land.
Weirdly in agreement with most. Hope the WA falls as it is so awful. Need a Revoke / long delay to go back to the drawing board. Might as well then have a General Election and a 2nd Referendum.

Pretty cannot agree with you on MC. My ideal BoE man is a cross between Mervyn and Yanis. Blush

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/03/2019 12:36

Turncoat Raab speaking

insaneduetobrexit · 29/03/2019 12:37

I can't watch anymore...

It is a lovely day but I have been watching the fucking parliament channel ..

I have had enough ..

I can't stand this Brexit shit - we need a people's vote.

Also the only politicians I want to listen to are
Dominic Grieve and David Lammy.

They are the only politicians I can handle listening to anymore - what does that mean?
