Westminstenders: Indicative Crossiants

Tomorrow the Indicative debate starts at 3pm

The Speaker will choose options to go to vote.

Vote at 7pm for yes or no for each option.

7.30pm The SI debate on extension followed by vote.

Announcement of the indicative vote sometime between 8.15pm and 9.30pm

Meanwhile the DUP have indicated they would prefer a long delay (and presumably EU elections by default) rather than May's deal, in a strange twist of Brexit.

There's a thread elsewhere on MN, (with very little insight per posting) for debating the actual measure... I was more intrigued by it being a crystal clear example that in or out of the EU, the UK is going to end up taking the rules one way or another.

I'm imagining the UK was a vocal supporter of this measure too - which is rather a poke in the eye for the "nasty EU makes us do bad things" coterie ...

SusanWalker · 27/03/2019 16:26

I would be broadly in favour of speed limiters, purely so that when I'm doing 55 on a national speed limit single carriageway no fucker can tailgate me because they want to do 80.

Songsofexperience · 27/03/2019 16:29

When are the votes going to be held? Is it already today?

TheElementsSong · 27/03/2019 16:30

I’m in favour of speed limiters, EU-imposed or otherwise. And I’m also a fan of not buffering around with the bloody clocks twice a year: I’d prefer BST, because I like light evenings, but the main thing is to stop this ridiculous clock-changing.

bellinisurge · 27/03/2019 16:30

People said the same shit about seatbelts. And drink driving laws. I'm old. People should grow the fuck up and embrace any technology that makes roads safer.

FishesaPlenty · 27/03/2019 16:32

Revoke is not permanent. UK can start all over again with A50 "In Good Faith" under a different PM and/or Govt.

I don't think there can be a test of "In Good Faith" for invoking A50 again, the law doesn't allow for it. They can't stop us as long as it's done constitutionally. It would be a subsequent second unilateral revocation which would have to be in good faith.

SusanWalker · 27/03/2019 16:34

I don't really care about the clocks either. I have bigger things to worry about than the clocks changing. As long as the civil servants have looked into it properly and it will work for everyone then I'm happy.

LouiseCollins28 · 27/03/2019 16:34

So interesting, to find out what sort views people have on the speed limiters thing.

Butterymuffin · 27/03/2019 16:35

Margaret Beckett speaking impressively now on the need for a confirmatory vote.

Songsofexperience · 27/03/2019 16:35

It would be utterly perverse to reinvoke I think. Probably the EU will amend A50 legislation to avoid this happening.

ncagain222 · 27/03/2019 16:35

So Bercow is refusing to let TM bring her deal to parliament again? What does this mean for Brexit?

DGRossetti · 27/03/2019 16:35

knock yourself out ...

Yep, they'd both go on my "what have the EU ever done for us" list.

Bloody clocks.

SusanWalker · 27/03/2019 16:36

Margaret Beckett is making a good case for 2nd ref.

prettybird · 27/03/2019 16:36

I'm in Scotland and I'd also prefer to stay on BST Smile although apparently I'm unusual in that Confused

Interestingly, Iceland stays in the equivalent of BST all year round despite being so far north (further to the West of us, so in practice it is actually on GMT all year round). It means that in winter it only gets light at about 12 and gets dark again at 4 - but all the best daylight hours are in the afternoon Smile

tobee · 27/03/2019 16:37

DGRossetti how about the the front page of the Daily Express today re speed limits?

InterchangeableEmma · 27/03/2019 16:37

WA+WAIB would surely be a significant change. Will they do that on Friday do you think?

RussellSprout · 27/03/2019 16:38

I bloody love Bercow!!!!

LouiseCollins28 · 27/03/2019 16:38

thank you DGR! found I was looking at the wrong thread after all that! whoops.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 27/03/2019 16:41

Yes me too. But then we'll argue abut whether we stay on GMT or BST (I'd prefer BST by a long way).

prettybird · 27/03/2019 16:41

It will take the EU years to change the A50 legislation as it is part of the Lisbon Treaty, and unlike certain countries Wink, it knows that it can't unilaterally change an international treaty Hmm

It will have to go into the "To Do" List for the next Treaty (re)negotiation Grin

InterchangeableEmma · 27/03/2019 16:42

Sorry, my last post in reference to this which I then failed to link mobile.twitter.com/nicholaswatt/status/1110938456962842624?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet

DeRigueurMortis · 27/03/2019 16:44

I have a question please.

Apologies if it's already been covered.

Why is the price for TM's deal her resignation amongst the hardcore Brexitiers?

Is seen as an opportunity to get someone more pro Brexit in place or simply an opportunist move give BoJo (or someone else) a chance be PM?

Is there a feel across the whole Tory party that she's "failed to deliver" and a new leader is required or just a push by the pro Brexit Tories?

Thanks in advance.

DGRossetti · 27/03/2019 16:46

DGRossetti how about the the front page of the Daily Express today re speed limits?

What about it ? "Express headline = pile o' shite" in Italian rhyming slang. The only time the Express is my goto newspaper is when a particularly sloppy dog turd has found its way onto my shoe.

The only good thing about the "debate" is to confirm the right decision was made by not listening to idiots. And hypocrites.

FishesaPlenty · 27/03/2019 16:47

It would be utterly perverse to reinvoke I think. Probably the EU will amend A50 legislation to avoid this happening.

I imagine they've put some thought into a new A50 already. The current one has obviously caused some issues.
