Westminstenders: Indicative Crossiants

Tomorrow the Indicative debate starts at 3pm

The Speaker will choose options to go to vote.

Vote at 7pm for yes or no for each option.

7.30pm The SI debate on extension followed by vote.

Announcement of the indicative vote sometime between 8.15pm and 9.30pm

Meanwhile the DUP have indicated they would prefer a long delay (and presumably EU elections by default) rather than May's deal, in a strange twist of Brexit.

Red, do you predict more resignations bearing in mind the MPs being whipped against the takeover this afternoon?

RedToothBrush · 27/03/2019 15:11

Plenty of Tory rebels apparently.

As you'd expect.

Will be interesting to see if there are the exact same numbers as the last vote on this.

That JRM fan club - it's parody, surely Shock

"setting my clock back to 1940, when this country had some balls" Confused

JRM set his back to the 19th century
when we were the world's #1 superpower, with the largest empire
... and workhouses, poorhouses, the wealth pyramid ... al returning

Butterymuffin · 27/03/2019 15:12

So glad her "no children" jibe at TM cost her a shot at the top job, for which she is plainly unsuited.

Agree with you on that Louise! Leadsom is an insubstantial politician in all sorts of ways but that comment showed terrible judgement.

RedToothBrush · 27/03/2019 15:12

No. I don't think so. there were enough rebels last time.

I can't see the benefit of anyone resigning over the same thing.

I can't say I have any sympathy for mini-Mogg - he'll have every aspect of his life smoothed out for him, will inherit a lot of money and most likely end up a very wealthy hedge fund manager or an MP.

I do feel sorry for the rest of us who don't have quite the same opportunities and I'm really not comfortable with power being concentrated in elites in the way that it is.

...and to think Leavers day Remain is the desire of the metropolitan elite when they support JRM and Alexander Boris De Pfellel Johnson.

StripeyChina · 27/03/2019 15:12

RTB - indeed.

JRM is a classic example of someone who has been given a first class education but only absorbed just enough to spin with a cast iron confidence the facts they want to spin. And are utterly shameless in appropriating from history to do so. BoJo is another one who does this.

TheMostBoringPersonEver · 27/03/2019 15:14

Why are they voting again for this when they agreed to it on Monday, by the way?

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 15:14

A common factor Brexit-Trump populism is what
Thomas Frank summarised in his Trump book "What's the Matter With Kansas":

"It's like a French Revolution in reverse in which the workers come pouring down the street
screaming 'more power to the aristocracy'."

yolofish · 27/03/2019 15:15

I heard JRM quoted on BBC Radio 2 news (in the car) today: "half a loaf is better than no bread at all". I wonder who that half a loaf will end up feeding? because I am pretty damn sure it won't be us plebs...

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 15:16

Hazard & MrHazard 💐
Sorry to hear that

Butterymuffin · 27/03/2019 15:16

This is why I don't share any of the comic social media posts about either JRM or B Johnson. It makes people think they are likeable, essentially harmless comedy characters when they're anything but. They are dangerous, arrogant operators and should be taken seriously.

Sostenueto · 27/03/2019 15:16

Think its going to be close on whether indicative votes can go ahead. Lots of MPs seem to be going for TM WA if its presented. Changing their minds (sigh)

PostNotInHaste · 27/03/2019 15:17

This must be absolutely incredible and not in a good way for anyone watching from abroad.

I think David Allen Green mentioned he was at Oxford/Cambridge at the same time as JRM and others. I think DAG used to be more conservative but has shifted.

I think Hugo Rifkind said the ERG need to realise that they are the ones actually preventing Brexit, when they realise this they will vote for MV3 - so maybe this is what’s happening?

BigChocFrenzy · 27/03/2019 15:18

Congratulations to your clever DD, PostNot 💐
Hopefully, you can visit her, maybe even think about retiring there eventually ?

RedToothBrush · 27/03/2019 15:18

Bercow "can you investigate the delay in the no lobby"

I can almost imagine a high school style sit down protest at the idea of the debate and doing so to prevent indicative votes taking place at this point.

Ipsos Mori poll puts May still ahead of not only Corbyn as PM material, also all her Tory would be successors. (On Guardian live blog). Says it all, doesn't it? She's currently making a total car crash of things but the public can't imagine anyone else doing better.

RedToothBrush · 27/03/2019 15:20

Letwin got 329 ayes and 302 noes on Monday...

Interesting.

The80sweregreat · 27/03/2019 15:21

JMR said ' let them eat cake' then?
Wouldn't surprise me! He talks in riddles half the time as it is. Bread indeed. Stale bread for us plebs.

So they can't go home now? More voting?

AutumnCrow · 27/03/2019 15:21

Bdhjklmo selected.

PostNotInHaste · 27/03/2019 15:21

Thank you BCF. I think unfortunately it won’t really be somewhere we could retire to due the language being so radically different to anything DH and I can do. It’s a source of amazement to me when it comes out of her mouth.

Ok so indicative votes on

Butterymuffin · 27/03/2019 15:22

Here we go on motions

B, D, H, J K, L, M, O selected
