Westministenders: A Special Place in Hell

A quick start to a new thread (as I've not been paying attention this evening!).

May is looking to ditch the Malthouse Compromise. Cos its so rubbish.

The ERG look like they are splitting over it anyway.

Up to sixty Labour MPs could back the WA.

Half the ERG plus Labour Leave Rebels could be enough to get the WA over the line.

Donald Tusk, makes controversial comment by more or less stating the obvious.

Louise, what specifically have Phillips or Lammy done that you consider awful, outside opposing Brexit?

LouiseCollins28 · 08/02/2019 13:47

Jess Phillips has some qualities, but i'm afraid I usually just finder her offensive, threatening to "stab Jeremy Corbyn in the front" being one particularly nasty example.

David Lammy essentially defended the rioters of Broadwater Farm, in print, among the rioters were those people who murdered a police officer.

Sarah Champion was MP for Rotherham for nearly 2 years before the Jay report into child abuse was published in 2014, yet she astoundingly gets credit for her response to the situation that had existed there for years.

Wonder if a new party might attract David Miliband back?

The UK is assessing how British nuclear waste could be buried in Northern Ireland.
According to this govt video about it, the location identified is on the Newry/Dundalk border.
As part of Brexit the UK is leaving Euratom, so this nuclear dump would not be subject to EU norms

They can fuck right off with their plans to dump nuclear waste on the island of Ireland. Angry

I'll be voting Lib Dem if we get a GE soon. I agree with TheElementSong, for me the biggest current immediate issue is Brexit. If we don't sort that out then everything including austerity becomes much much worse.

There is never going to be an ideal party for me, so I'm getting behind this.

Can't copy article but it mentions emperor's new clothes 😉

My dad says Jo Swinson was a very good constituency MP - he was actually quite sad (but at the same time, defiantly proud of making the point) to tell her that he wouldn't be voting for get again unless and until Scotland is independent and/or the Scottish LibDems come out in support of Scottish Independence.

She is back being his MP but he still won't vote for her.

LonelyandTiredandLow · 08/02/2019 14:09

Hazards that's what I heard this morning. Pic makes JH look like a tortoise.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/02/2019 14:10

Nuclear waste dump in Ireland as a result of Brexit 😱🤦🏻‍♀️
Are the govt deliberately trying to goad Republicans into violence ?

Also, if it's in a border county, the locals will be heavily nationalist
Might be a diferent response if it were to be located in a Unionist heartland

If Westminster want a nuclear waste dump, what's wrong with putting it in the English Home Counties ? Hmm

_ Brexit deal may not be put to MPs until late in March,_ officials say

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/brexit/brexit-deal-may-not-be-put-to-mps-until-late-in-march-officials-say/ar-BBThOqz?li=BBoPRmx

It is understood that EU officials are looking at offering May a detailed plan of what a potential technological solution to the Irish border might look like,
which could be included in the legally non-binding political declaration on the future trade deal.
.....
officials believe that it is increasingly likely that any renegotiated deal will only be put to the Commons at the end of March, necessitating even then an extension of the article 50 negotiating period to get legislation through parliament.

prettybird · 08/02/2019 14:17

BigChoc - the same reason that Trident can't be located at Devonport because it is too close to Plymouth populated areas, but is ok being located at Faslane, close to Glasgow ConfusedAngry

borntobequiet · 08/02/2019 14:25

?!
Dumping nuclear waste in what used to be known as “bandit country”?
Surely this can’t be true. Could anyone be this stupid? (Well, yes, I know they could).

LonelyandTiredandLow · 08/02/2019 14:36

Appalling re nuclear waste. How can DUP be allowing it? All of the chickens coming home to roost in quick succession here - all of project fear coming true. Feels like a nightmare reality where nothing is has the true ability to shock IYKWIM. I am shocked, but in no way surprised. It feels as though any crazy can happen. I think they are flooding it all out now so no one can focus fully on any one thing? Also so it can't be pinned as "something that happened after Brexit" but looks like it was planned Hmm

Lisette1940 · 08/02/2019 14:38

Someone on twitter has christened them the Depleted Uranium Party.

borntobequiet · 08/02/2019 14:42

We must be living in a parallel universe because YOU REALLY COULDN’T MAKE THIS SHIT UP and expect anyone to take you seriously.
Sorry for shouting.

If the geology of the area is suitable then there is no reason for it not to be considered and the site preparations would give a lot of jobs for several years at least. If you want electricity, someone has to be inconvenienced.

LonelyandTiredandLow · 08/02/2019 14:48

I'm not sure "inconvenienced" quite covers it Confused

Lisette1940 · 08/02/2019 14:51

I think that consideration is going to be very politically sensitive Leclerc. I agree with the other poster further up - they can right off.

Lisette1940 · 08/02/2019 14:51

My asterisks got nibbles but you get my drift 😉

LouiseCollins28 · 08/02/2019 14:51

Hey! Just for @prettybird, 2 views on this. difficult to say the least

I'm sure you know this very well, but to help others, Faslane is 40 miles from Glasgow, where as Devonport is essentially in Plymouth. Never let the facts get in the way of a good story though hey?!

Lisette1940 · 08/02/2019 14:52

Arghh nobbled.

NO.

There are no nuclear plants on the island of Ireland. It would be bloody outrageous to have the UK's nuclear waste shipped over.

Lisette1940 · 08/02/2019 15:07

Absolutely.
