Westministenders: A Special Place in Hell

A quick start to a new thread (as I've not been paying attention this evening!).

May is looking to ditch the Malthouse Compromise. Cos its so rubbish.

The ERG look like they are splitting over it anyway.

Up to sixty Labour MPs could back the WA.

Half the ERG plus Labour Leave Rebels could be enough to get the WA over the line.

Donald Tusk, makes controversial comment by more or less stating the obvious.

Oops missed a couple of important tweets in that thread

The Columnist @Sime0nStylites
Once we’ve gone beyond this point we are entirely subject to the goodwill of the EU either to agree a deal or to mitigate no deal.

Let me put it differently, there is no more negotiation.

It would be somewhere far far beyond irresponsible to reach this point. And FAOD it’s not 23 55 on March 29th. That’s for very naïve people with no commercial experience.

Incidentally the tone of Tusk's Hell Comment is consistent with this being soon.

Replies to this are suggesting the first week in March btw...

I was just looking and found this useful round-up of legislation needed to pass.

Quite a lot.

derxa · 07/02/2019 19:03

Third on the list is former Belgian Prime Minister Verhofstadt, with a declared income of between €920,614 and €1,425,000, as director of investment holding company Sofina plus nine other outside activities

LonelyandTiredandLow · 07/02/2019 19:08

Bigly I think we have passed it too, but I'm not sure many politicians understand that yet.

Just in case anyone is missing the GoVeStEr enjoy!

Loletta · 07/02/2019 19:09

I'm with Bingly, I don't really understand that article for the same reasons

BiglyBadgers · 07/02/2019 19:10

Is there a point you want to make relating to that link derxa?

lonelyplanetmum · 07/02/2019 19:10

Yes Derxa yawn but we only contribute 0.7% of GDP to the whole EU budget. In return for that we used to have easy unrestricted access to a market on our doorstep worth $18.8 trillion of 500 million people.

So it's immaterial if EU representatives who sometimes were British earn more or less than the PM.

Anyway let's have our extra moneys worth. Let some of the experienced talented ones come over for a bit and help run an interim pro tem government at Westminster ( or Hull). New blood - new ideas. It may help.

BiglyBadgers · 07/02/2019 19:11

I like Bingly. I might have a name change Grin

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 07/02/2019 19:13

lonelyplanet I like you like this Smile
(Mind you, I like you before)

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 07/02/2019 19:14

I liked you before. I think Brexit is making me lose my grip on simple language!

Grinchly · 07/02/2019 19:15

Gets worse. Piece on C4 tonight. Thanet DC is voting on cuts to budget. If they go through the port of Ramsgate will close. No ferries . No port.

lonelyplanetmum · 07/02/2019 19:16

I've flipped. Nothing to lose. I'm loving it. When RTB and BCF appeared and were being sensible I felt a bit like a rebellious teenager who'd been home alone...

Great example of joined-up working right there.

Or is this local government trolling central government, because if so it's kinda genius.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 07/02/2019 19:20

I think you should just post the video of Bercow responding to that irate leaver in the Commons by saying he hadn't realised he was such a "delicate flower". You can find it on Mike Galsworthy's twitter feed.

Bigly - ooh, I missed this before I responded so didn’t think to post the clip but, funnily enough, I did respond with a comment about Peter Bone(head)’s complaint in the HoC and pointed out Nick Boles and Yvette Cooper had showed more resilience in the face of actual death threats.

Speaking of Mike Galsworthy, did anyone else watch his live broadcast the other night when he urged Labour MPs not to vote for the WA as it would ultimately lead to No Deal?

LonelyandTiredandLow · 07/02/2019 19:21

Grinchley I saw that on BBC. Interestingly there was an article in our local magasine which was rather vague about securing £25m to ensure the port would be ready. The article almost read as if it had already been granted...so I am assuming this was a shock to the locals Hmm. I don't live there, but in the vague area. Lot's of support for Leave in UKIP's hotseat, as you can imagine.

BiglyBadgers · 07/02/2019 19:21

I'm waiting for the Mail to spot it Lonelyplanet. Imagine the headlines:

"Traitor Mums Campaign for EU Takeover!"

LonelyandTiredandLow · 07/02/2019 19:24

Sorry for the spelling Grinchly
lonely I'm right there with you on the simple tasks! I keep repeating words...need sleep.

derxa · 07/02/2019 19:26

Is there a point you want to make relating to that link derxa? The point is people are trying to make out that GV is some sort of white knight. I fact he is a top ten list of MEPs making money on the side. A list which includes Nigel Farage. Good company he keeps. Tony Blair is gutted that we're leaving the EU possibly because it would have been a nice cosy billet for him. I don't want to leave the EU but let's not pretend that the people who run it are saints.

RedToothBrush · 07/02/2019 19:27

When RTB and BCF appeared and were being sensible I felt a bit like a rebellious teenager who'd been home alone...

Hahaha I am FAR from like this in real life.

Can I join the Campaign for Mums For EU?

Are you going to stand on your soap (powder) box to campaign?
Me, I use the stuff in bottles so far too wobbly.

Grinchly · 07/02/2019 19:31

What's an additional vowel between friends ? Grin

And you lot are my virtual friends.i don't know what I would do without these threads.

I was thinking today that although I have spent many many months feeling totally depressed and warning my liberal remainer buddies against unicorn remain/ revoke unicorns, I think a tiny, tiny part of me remained a tiny bit positive. Perhaps as some sort of self-protection.

That has gone now. Sad

RedToothBrush · 07/02/2019 19:32

The point is people are trying to make out that GV is some sort of white knight.

I literally said he was a troll. He trolls leavers.

I might happen to find him a funny troll at times, but I do fully acknowledge and realise he is trolling. Sometimes its far from helpful when he sticks his oar in, in this manner too though.

I hardly think this qualifies as saying he is a white knight.

I'd need something I bit higher than a soap powder box. I'm a proper short arse.
