The European Medical Agency left their London offices today to relocate to Amsterdam.
900 jobs. Lost our leading role in evaluating medicines.

No clear pathway forward.

What they should of written on that bus

Step forward into chaos, we have no idea and we're just telling you what you want to hear: Vote Leave.

Apparently Boris has lost 12lbs to be fighting fit for Brexit.

blueshoes · 26/01/2019 01:42

Did not realise Boris' girlfriend changed her name to Brexit.

Justanotherlurker I can't really follow your rant but the profile you give does not describe either of us! It is DH's country, where he is a citizen and where we have lived in the past for very many years. You can be a citizen of a country without agreeing with all its policies, which is surely what is happening here to half the population?

RDR2 · 26/01/2019 10:57

Ramp up cheap, unskilled, Eastern European immigration to nose bleed levels for 15 straight years. Tick.

Following 2008 financial crash, whack the working class English plebs with a decade of 'austerity' while, at the same time, manufacturing a fake 'economic recovery' in order to bail out London bankers and wealthy SE property owners. Tick.

Hold a referendum on membership of a loathsome, undemocratic, neoliberal institution that facilitates the free movement of labour and capital between 28 diverse European countries. Tick.

Moan and whinge when the 'ungrateful plebs' vote to leave the above project en masse. Tick.

As an aside, Scotland didn't vote to leave because its population has remained relatively static over the past 20 years.

Easy to criticise the 'racist English' when you get free this and that courtesy of the Barnett grants, yet don't have to put up with consequences of mass immigration.

ssd · 26/01/2019 11:12

Some people pay higher taxes in Scotland as our benefits system is better than down south. Scottish people are generally more socialist than the English, we are used to being the underdog and don't like the idea of a well heeled tory government setting the agenda from their comfortable positions. Maybe that explains a bit of why Scotland voted 62% to remain, there is already a deep distrust of what sovereignty means up here and I'm not talking about history I mean the here and now.
That said, if you want to move up here, remember your brolly... 😁

ssd · 26/01/2019 11:15

You're right RDR2 we don't have the immigration problems that are currently happening in England and I can understand why that issue was behind a lot of the leave vote. But immigration doesn't seem to be sorted out at all with the governments deal?

LouMumsnet · 26/01/2019 13:28

Hi OP. We're just nipping on to your thread to say we've moved it over to the Brexit topic. Hopefully you'll get a good response on there.

Thanks.

"try living in a northern deprived town; your opinion would soon change"
I do. Lots of E.U. and non E.U. immigrants here too. Still think Brexit will fuck everyone over round here. Sadly, this was a big Leave voting area. That shit has gone a bit quiet recently round here though.

joystir59 · 26/01/2019 14:07

London voted remain, Labour, and is only 48% white British. It's the racist white outlands that voted Leave

Keepingtabsonyou · 26/01/2019 14:20

Amsterdammer here and while you might think we’d be overjoyed at the thought of all the new jobs (and obviously that’s never a bad thing), a hard Brexit is going to affect the Netherlands very badly. We trade a lot with the UK and are very dependent on that trade (more, I believe, than almost any other EU country) and we also depend a lot on fishing. A hard Brexit means suddenly losing a large part of our fishing waters, while the UK will not be able to fish enough from the large waters it will have sole rights over (leaving the environmental aspects aside obviously; I’m a vegetarian anyway but that’s not the issue at hand here!)

It goes without saying that we all live in our own little bubbles but the general attitude here when Brexit comes up is a sort of horrified pity at what’s happening to the UK and what it seems might well happen. There’s no schadenfreude whatsoever. Just sadness and a bit of dread.

RomanyRoots · 26/01/2019 14:48

I'm in a NW town with pockets of degeneration, and poverty.
The referendum results were as follows: 104,331 leave and 58,492 for remain.
I'm not sure southerners would like it up here. Grin

LittlePickleHead · 26/01/2019 14:49

@LouMumsnet why have you moved it? Surely she's more likely to get a wide range of responses on a higher traffic board?

We are EIGHT WEEKS from a potential no deal situation that would affect everyone in the country to some extent, and yet any mention of Brexit still has to be hidden away?

It's fucking shameful.

Neverunderfed · 26/01/2019 15:15

No thanks EspressoButler, what did we do to deserve that?! 😂

Why do all these threads have to be moved? I genuinely don't get why Brexit has to be hidden, there is pretty much no other topic that automatically gets shifted.

thefairyfellersmasterstroke · 26/01/2019 15:17

Easy to criticise the 'racist English' when you get free this and that courtesy of the Barnett grants

Barnett is not a grant. The UK treasury takes all taxes raised in Scotland and uses the Barnett formula to calculate how much of it we are allowed to get back to spend on whatever the Scottish government chooses. So stop trying to make it sound like a handout, because it's not, it's our own money.

And so what if they decide to invest it in the health and education of its citizens? They're entirely entitled to do so. You sound jealous - perhaps you could petition your governement to do the same for your people.

Tanith · 26/01/2019 15:20

We know why it’s been moved. Complaints from Brexiters.
It suits them very well to have Brexit threads hidden away from the popular areas.

Dapplegrey · 26/01/2019 15:22

Romany were you surprised that so many people in your area voted leave or were you expecting it.
Our area voted 52% leave which surprised me as I’d expected Remain to win round here.

@Tippexy - read up on supply chain and the supermarket just in time. If there is a no deal Brexit how do you think food, materials etc will get into the UK?

RomanyRoots · 26/01/2019 15:28

dapplegrey

Unfortunately I wasn't surprised. It wasn't just racism with these figures, although of course it did factor in part, but not wholly.

WonderWoman2019 · 26/01/2019 15:43

I'm also Confused as to why these Brexit threads are hidden. This issue affects every single person on this board and indeed of this country more profoundly than any other event over the last decade. It's literally torn the UK apart and has resulted in the government and NHS issuing medical and food stockpiling guidelines and mobilization of our military.

Turning the other cheek is a bit late... particularly since this country is in shit so deep we face a actual loo roll scarcity crisis Hmm

StoorieHoose · 26/01/2019 15:50

Easy to criticise the 'racist English' when you get free this and that courtesy of the Barnett grants, yet don't have to put up with consequences of mass immigration.

No one on this thread has called the English racist ffs. How the Scottish Government spends its budget is up to them. If you don’t like it campaign for an English Parliament

If Scotland wasn’t so resource rich I’m betting the Tories would have no issue in punting us off

LakeIsle48 · 26/01/2019 15:57

They didn't say on their bus that Northern Ireland and its pepple would be completely and utterly fucked. My kids on their late teens/early 20's are watching the nrews asking me if we are going to be bombed by terrorists.

This bollocks has gone too fucking far.

There is a separate legal agreement to safeguard NI and Ireland. Do those morons even know or give a shit.

Seriously wake me up from this nightmare!

LakeIsle48 · 26/01/2019 15:58

NI voted to remain.
