Been reading all these threads on here about Brexit and just wondered if anyone voted Leave?
Fwiw, I did.
If you voted Leave what do you anticipate will happen before 29/03?

Dont be shy, I can't be the only Leaver on here!Smile

1tis - ha ha you are a remainer through and through. You have migrated across for very different reasons.

1tisILeClerc · 12/01/2019 23:23

I WAS a remainer, but seeing how the 'leavers' have destroyed the 'good' bits of the UK it is now blatantly obvious that from now on the UK is only out to damage the EU and has no clue HOW it is going to be a worthwhile partner. For this reason and regrettably the UK should leave in the least damaging way, using the WA and proper negotiations.
So far NO leave campaigners have managed to demonstrate any workable ideas to show HOW the UK will be any better than it was before June 2016 and rather than improvements it is deliberately destroying everything that was good.

1tisILeClerc · 12/01/2019 23:31

Or put it this way.
If you were in hospital for a serious operation, would you want the surgeon to appear pissed as a newt, swearing at the nurses and anesthetist before picking up a scalpel?

millyonth · 12/01/2019 23:32

I can list three things we will be able to do outside the EU that we can't do now:

  1. We will be able to manage our immigration so that uncontrolled cheap labour does not suppress wages and put up rentals. (I know we will always need and welcome migrants and lots of them but we will be able to control immigration more, like we did in the past.)
  2. We will be able to renationalise our railways. The EU does not allow a railway monopoly.
  3. We will be able to trade more freely with the world. I believe this could mean cheaper prices - in the medium term. And it would benefit the "average Joe" in Morocco and Peru as well as the "average Joe" here.

But the main benefit is that we will have more direct democracy, accountability, sovereignty. I know that remainers refer to these things as unicorns and bendy bananas - but they are what keep countries sane and happy and prosperous. Look at what is happening in the rest of the EU because the authorities are not listening to their genuine concerns. Far right populism. Facism. Anarchy. It's ugly.
Do you see that in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan? No. Because they are proper democracies that have the freedom to react to their people's particular concerns.

to answer original question
im a leaver.

im in law enforcement and find a lot of the people i deal with are from EU, here to break our laws and continue to do so. i love spending 8 hours trying to find a latvian translator on xmas eve. not.

i wonder if i went to russiia or latvia whether i would be afforded a translator if i were to go into one of their shops and try to walk out with 365£ worth of stuff.

Jorgezaunders · 12/01/2019 23:40

Sane. Happy. Prosperous.
Yes, that is exactly how I would describe the UK right now.
FFS.

You really are struggling to get this:
1: Labour, Anyone can come for 3 months, that won't be stopped. It is mostly 'illegal' gangs that are the ones being paid cash and avoiding paying taxes that are the issue.
2: Railways could be renationalised, it is not prevented by the EU. It classes as infrastructure.
3:You didn't read what I and others have said about tariffs. 10% hike going onto WTO basic. in theory you can then drop tariffs but if you drop it on imports you have to on exports (damn rules) so you can buy cheap but the UK producers go out of business. The government has plans to slaughter about of UK lambs if there is no deal as they will become worthless. That's farmers out of business.
UK never lost 'Sovereignty'. If it had we wouldn't be able to have Brexit. Accountability, yep the UK has that. Democracy. Yep that too.
The far right. Australia, Canada and New Zealand certainly have some of those, not sure about Japan but their culture is totally different.
So you have voted leave to achieve what exactly?

coppercolouredtop
I would hope a 'law enforcement officer' would be able to spell and write correctly in English.

coppercolouredtop · 12/01/2019 23:51

oops. i actually got an a level in english lit if that helps. i'm sure it would . does not change the fact i am dealing with latvian shop lifters after being here two months as career criminals though eh.

1tisILeClerc · 12/01/2019 23:54

Nope, capitals and punctuation.

coppercolouredtop · 12/01/2019 23:55

please do point out my grammatical error though as i like to learn. where is it?

coppercolouredtop · 12/01/2019 23:56

ah. ok. this completely trumps the fact i was dealing with a Latvian shoplifter on xmas eve trying to walk out of morrisons with a trolley full worth £365 clearly.

i see.

coppercolouredtop · 12/01/2019 23:58

he had been here 2 months. no job. career criminal. from another county over to shop lift as was his job.
i love paying my taxes to fund this blokes translator. that i couldnt get cos it was xmas eve at 11 pm.

coppercolouredtop · 13/01/2019 00:00

ask any response cop what they think on free movement in the EU.

Bearbehind · 13/01/2019 00:01

So 0 out of 3 milly

What is it going to take for you Leavers to understand that your aspirations have nothing to do with the E.U.?

lljkk · 13/01/2019 00:18

Wikipedia says that EU nationals make up 3.6% of the UK resident population.
FullFact says that EU nationals make up 5% of the UK prison population.

Hitch in that comparison is age demographic... EU nationals are younger than average UK age. Prisoners are younger than population average. I can't find figures about whether EU nationals are over-represented in UK prisons if adjusted for proportion by age.

lljkk · 13/01/2019 00:26

House of Commons report is better source. Median prisoner age in Engl+Wales is about 35yo, seems like? Bit younger for Scotland & NI.

millyonth · 13/01/2019 00:27

coppercoloured the regulars on these Brexit threads won't listen to your real-life experience they will either sneer or quote statistics that they've looked up on the Internet.

coppercolouredtop · 13/01/2019 00:27

Mmm. So the prison population is more than the general population?

I think that bears out what I'm saying. Grammar withstanding.

coppercolouredtop · 13/01/2019 00:31

Milky I'm happy to regale anyone with my real life experience.

I'm not racist. I used to work inthe nhs and defended eu nationals moving here but now I'm in police I see a whole different story I'm afraid. Just going in my own personal experience.

millyonth · 13/01/2019 00:31

I might be wrong, but I don't think shoplifters often get custodial sentences.

Home Office statistics show the number of offences of shoplifting in England rose by nearly 23% between 2013 and 2017.

Figures from 27 of 38 police forces in England - obtained by the BBC - show that during the same period arrests of shoplifters dropped by 17% and charges fell by 25% in that time.

coppercolouredtop · 13/01/2019 00:37

Well that doesn't surprise me given the time it takes to deal with a foreign shoplifter would be upwards of the pace clock which is set at 24 hours

coppercolouredtop · 13/01/2019 00:41

IMO sealing with shoplifters is a complete waste of time and money.

Nothing happens them.

coppercolouredtop · 13/01/2019 00:43

Arresting a shoplifter takes a full shift and often half the shift after.

Arresting a foreign shoplifter takes double.

coppercolouredtop · 13/01/2019 00:47

I arrested a Latvian shoplifter Xmas eve. Couldn't get intetpretor so let go. Report o. Summons is a joke - he will be shoplifting every day . Maybe just not caught. And if he is he is entitled to interpretation and lawyer which takes time. No one was available on Xmas eve. So his house didn't get searched for all the other stuff probably shoplifted and stashed. He effectively got away with it. And this is the only time he was caught....he was working with accomplices . It's a joke.
