Been reading all these threads on here about Brexit and just wondered if anyone voted Leave?
Fwiw, I did.
If you voted Leave what do you anticipate will happen before 29/03?

Dont be shy, I can't be the only Leaver on here!Smile

Leavers don't have a good track record for checking facts.

jasjas1973 · 12/01/2019 22:00

My point is Norway is so closely associated to the EU we might as well be in

But your not!

So would a EEA option be acceptable to you Time ? or would you consider it too close to the EU and therefore not brexit......

millyonth · 12/01/2019 22:06

The car industry is in trouble. I think some of the following industries will flourish: pharmaceuticals, high-tech, bio-sciences, gaming, digital media, engineering, fish-farming, whisky, fashion, renewable energy. We are okay at these things. Maybe we will get better.

Agriculture will have to become more mechanised/efficient without the cheap long-suffering uncomplaining slave labour that FOM has provided. The likes of Amazon and Sports Direct will also have to change their ways without the constant flow of cheap labour.

No doubt the City will survive and thrive. We love to hate our bankers but they are good at what they do.

We have our own currency fortunately. We will see what happens with tariffs and trade agreements. I think we will achieve reasonable trade deals because in the end people of all countries need to trade and we are a big population of greedy consumers they want to sell to. After all, who else is going to buy their Pringles and Prosecco?

None of this means anything to you because you are convinced that we will crash and burn if we leave the EU, but this is what I believe.

longwayoff · 12/01/2019 22:10

There's been a lot of 'sovereignty ' about this week, our parliament behaving as it should and refusing to allow the brexiters to have what they demand without debate. How is our parliament using it's lawful powers going down with leavers? This is a demonstration of the sovereignty leavers insist has been surrendered to Europe yet here it is. You must all be very pleased. Any complaints?

No I don’t.

I don’t think the world will stop turning, I just think things will be a damn sight harder for no apparent reason.

Every one of the industries you mentioned relies on us being able trade / collaborate with more than just ourselves and we have wrecked our reputation in this process

Why did we need to leave the EU to flourish in any of those areas?

bellinisurge · 12/01/2019 22:11

@millyonth , your slightly hicuppy but generally positive Leave could eventually happen with WA. But it absolutely will not happen with No Deal. So, which is it?

time4chocolate · 12/01/2019 22:15

Short answer jas yes I would and the last I heard Norway weren’t too keen on us joining them anyway.

BeardedMum · 12/01/2019 22:20

Why would you want to go through all the trouble of leaving just to to join the EEA? It makes no sense.

1tisILeClerc · 12/01/2019 22:22

A bit of a snag with these:
pharmaceuticals, Lots of investment needed and regulations a plenty, mostly gone to EU.
high-tech: Tariffs and investment and regulations gone to EU.
, bio-sciences Regulations, Investment, gone to EU.
, gaming: Tariffs?
, digital media Tariffs and regulation?
, engineering: Import and export tariffs and investment.
fish-farming. UK doesn't like many of the species found in UK waters so it is sold to the EU.
, whisky: Tariffs
, fashion, OK but it depends where it is made.
renewable energy: Needs massive investment, dominated by Dutch and others I think. Solar panels mostly made in China so not a massive market for installation.

1tisILeClerc · 12/01/2019 22:23

The city relies on 'passporting' for any trade with the EU, hence much is already moving to Paris/Germany

jasjas1973 · 12/01/2019 22:24

Well, it would suit remainers as it is virtually the EU but with a massive loss of sovereignty, pay in, no seat at the table, FOM but with a potential brake, a possible way back in to the EU if necessary..... Time, i think you are a potential remainer lol!

But as Bearded says... rather pointless.

time4chocolate · 12/01/2019 22:25

Just re-read my post and it’s not clear, sorry. The ‘yes I would’ was in response to the second part of Jas question. I didn’t vote to out to end up almost in. That would be pointless.

time4chocolate · 12/01/2019 22:27

Time, i think you are a potential remainer lol! 😂😂😂😂

BeardedMum · 12/01/2019 22:28

I am quite sure you can buy bendy bananas in Norway so that’s a positive for leavers I guess🥳

1tisILeClerc · 12/01/2019 22:29

{None of this means anything to you because you are convinced that we will crash and burn if we leave the EU, but this is what I believe.}
Believing and legally possible are different things unfortunately.
Tariffs of 10% wipes out most reasons to trade with the UK.
You also have to factor in everything that has certifications (that is most things if you look for the CE mark on plastic toys to microwaves).
ALL the certifications will need duplicating and verifying.

1tisILeClerc · 12/01/2019 22:34

{Tariffs of 10% wipes out most reasons to trade with the UK.}
Sorry, badly expressed. 10% tariff makes manufacturing equivalent things in the UK compared to within the EU uneconomic, especially things that are part made in the EU (or anywhere) which will get 10% tariff for materials entering the UK, then 10% for it to be sold in Europe.
UK workers will typically have to work for say 20% LESS than EU workers as a rough starting point.

SingleDadReally · 12/01/2019 22:40

At last some sense from Millyonth. My degree was in economic history so I have the perspective to realise that our future prosperity isn’t entirely dependent on harmonising our lawn mower noise regulations with Slovakia.

SingleDadReally · 12/01/2019 22:43

Leclerc-currencies move against each other by 10% in quite short periods of time.

Bearbehind · 12/01/2019 22:49

At last some sense from Millyonth

Eh - where?

I really am beginning to think Leavers and Remainers are seeing 2 totally different things.

millyonth · 12/01/2019 22:49

LeClerc - have you ever considered a career as a motivational speaker?

1tisILeClerc · 12/01/2019 22:49

{My degree was in economic history}
You also have the ability to talk out of your arse.

SingleDadReally · 12/01/2019 22:52

Oh dear, just descend into abuse-lost the referendum, losing on here ....

1tisILeClerc · 12/01/2019 22:53

{LeClerc - have you ever considered a career as a motivational speaker?}
No, I deal with things that are possible, not selling unicorns to the gullible.

Bearbehind · 12/01/2019 22:53

singledad could you list 3 things we will be able to do outside the E.U. that we couldn’t within, that will make a difference to the average Joes lives?

1tisILeClerc · 12/01/2019 22:55

{Oh dear, just descend into abuse-lost the referendum, losing on here ...}
That's another fail, I am of the 'leave' camp.
