Any Leavers here?

HoyPolloy · 09/01/2019 16:22

Been reading all these threads on here about Brexit and just wondered if anyone voted Leave?
Fwiw, I did.
If you voted Leave what do you anticipate will happen before 29/03?

Dont be shy, I can't be the only Leaver on here!Smile

Just one question from me: regardless of how you “feel” about the EU, did you at any point stop to think whether it was a good idea, at that moment in time, for a country that had just limped through a recession, to take such an economically suicidal step?

HoyPolloy · 10/01/2019 06:51

How is it selfish to vote in a particular way?
I think the EU has become too powerful, unwieldy for its own long term survival. I also think that it's economic policies have led to the rise of far right parties in Europe, for example, in Italy and Poland.

Personally, I don't think Brexit will happen. I think we will end up remaining and we will never again get the opportunity to vote on Remain / Leave.

@HoyPolloy if the EU crumbles as you suggest we will at least have had some practice in preparing for a collapsed society.

thehousethat · 10/01/2019 06:55

Certainly the government should never have presented the referendum as it did. It's far too complex an issue for a simple yes/no vote. And no country should decide its future without a stated majority being required. E.g 60:40 minimum. Fatal flaws in which David Cameron should be held account

PerverseConverse · 10/01/2019 06:55

Why no answers to reasonable questions of why leave and why no deal @HoyPolloy ?

I'll ask the remain voters the same: why remain and what deal do you want?

HoyPolloy · 10/01/2019 06:56

RedWine

I agree. Online insults don't bother me tbh. I voted in a Referendum the way I saw fit and don't need to justify my reasons.
The people that voted Tory and tacitly for the shower of disaster that is Universal Credit also made their choice in an election that was their choice - which is their right. They too don't need to try and justify their reasons.

@HoyPolloy

But if you do get your wish of a no deal what are you hoping/expecting will happen in the short term/long term?

I'd really love to understand your perspective.

thehousethat · 10/01/2019 06:58

You kind of do need to justify your reasons for voting for huge change with nationwide impact.

umpteennamechanges · 10/01/2019 07:00

I'm also genuinely interested to hear

I'm a massive remainer but actually interested to understand thinking on the Leave side at the moment.

What do you think the consequences of a no deal are?

Do you think that everything people are saying is 'project fear' or do you think any/parts of it might be true?

What do you understand the upsides and downsides of trading on WTO rules are?

How long do you think it would take to put new trade agreements in place?

bellinisurge · 10/01/2019 07:01

@PerverseConverse - I want the Deal we already have and I want the continued right to lobby for change and action in the EU. I also want to avoid chaos of No Deal.
I voted Remain and I lost because apparently people don't want that.

CocoLoco87 · 10/01/2019 07:05

I voted leave. I'm very naive Grin I didn't massively understand any of the implications for remain or leave. I didn't want the European court of human rights to have more power than our own courts. And there were a couple of other issues I felt weren't currently being handled correctly, immigration etc.

Now we're in the thick of it, I don't think I'd vote leave again. I think it was hard to expect people to vote leave or remain when there was no guaranteed plan in place. And I didn't have the foresight to see that. I thought when they made all these promises that they would happen. As I said, I'm quite naive and whilst I'm educated (I promise!) I don't engage with politics often because I don't understand what they're blathering on about!.

I'll get my coat.. And my tin hat...And body armour...I've answered a question that was asked, please don't be rude

Mistigri · 10/01/2019 07:06

I voted in a Referendum the way I saw fit and don't need to justify my reasons.

For sure, but if you post on a public forum seeking attention for the way you voted, and then refuse to discuss why you voted, other people have the right to conclude that you are evasive or ignorant.

Mistigri · 10/01/2019 07:07

I didn't want the European court of human rights to have more power than our own courts.

It's hard to tell from your post, and you may now know this, but the ECHR has nothing to do with the EU and we aren't leaving it.

surferjet · 10/01/2019 07:34

Why is a thread, asking if there’s any leave voters here, full of the usual aggressive bullying remainers?
I wish HQ would deal with these people & allow leavers to have one thread to talk amongst themselves on. But remainers just won’t leave us alone.
They have no shame.

bellinisurge · 10/01/2019 07:40

@surferjet , this thread was up for ages before anyone bothered to reply. I for one held off to allow Leave voters to come in and express support.
Earlier in this thread I expressed sympathy with the op's dilemma and suggested they look at the Prepper topic where no one cares how you voted and where there is some practical advice in personal preparation in a way that suits your view and budget.
How that is bullying, I don't know . Wind your neck in.

PerverseConverse · 10/01/2019 07:40

@surferjet I haven't seen any aggressive bullying on this thread? Report the posts if they break guidelines.

I'd like to hear from both sides of the vote as to why they voted the way they did and what deal they want. Only one remainer has replied. The OP refuses to answer and it makes me wonder why.

NeverTwerkNaked · 10/01/2019 07:41

Where’s the bullying and insults? Mainly I can just see people asking genuine questions?

Namenic · 10/01/2019 07:42

I’m definitely a remainer but come on guys - if we want to understand leavers, we need to be a bit nicer.

People might believe that the economic hit will not be that bad. For example people have thought that house prices were going to crash for several years now but they haven’t. It’s not totally irrational - after all the economy has not tanked so far.

Thank you hoypolloy and coppersulphate for answering. Part of me believes my preferences should be remain, no deal then WA - because we lose all the good bits about EU (access to Galileo, our rebate, exemption from euro currency, our say in trade rules) without gaining significant freedoms in trade (though it does end freedom of movement for people who care about that). But i’m Risk averse so would probably end up voting remain, WA then no deal.

Damn those 48%. How dare they still be living in the country!!

umpteennamechanges · 10/01/2019 07:50

I've only asked some genuine questions to understand where Leavers thoughts are at the moment.

I have no intention of arguing back about the answers as I don't believe we're going to change each other's minds on an Internet forum at this point...

bellinisurge · 10/01/2019 07:55

@surferjet - as I said this thread went up yesterday and for hours nobody replied. Then a leave supporter replied. Then more silence. Your time for getting involved and supporting this op was yesterday.

surferjet · 10/01/2019 08:02

umpteennamechanges

I wasn’t talking to you sorry! I was talking to the poster who’s name begins with B, she told me to wind my neck in because I’d like a thread where leavers can talk without aggressive remainers swooping all over it.
How dare I want that!

Some of the remainers on here, the ones who patrol the board 24/7, are so arrogant it’s unbelievable. They think we want them interrogating us on our own thread Hmm

Mistigri · 10/01/2019 08:03

GO AWAY!
Take you patronising, vomit inducing posts & stick them somewhere

Leaver politely asking remainers to play nice.

CocoLoco87 · 10/01/2019 08:04

@Mistigri well I've learned something new today!
