Been reading all these threads on here about Brexit and just wondered if anyone voted Leave?
Fwiw, I did.
If you voted Leave what do you anticipate will happen before 29/03?

Dont be shy, I can't be the only Leaver on here!Smile

Bear - sorry if you felt patronized by touchy-feelz me,

Answer - remove the impediment on the growth of low-wages. FOM holds it down. You may disagree with me but you can't surely pooh-pooh my POV because it is evidentially based.

Night, night - waayyy past my bedtime.

If the EU had a lot to do with trade unions and wages, then we shouod have seen the same happening in all EU countries.
As it is, trade unions are very powerful in Germany. And there isn’t such low wages all across Europe.

I FULLY agree that low wages are an issue. I just dint believe it has anything to do with the EU. I believe it has everything to do with the austerity measures, zero hours contract etc etc brought on by the government after the 2008 crisis.

Moussemoose · 12/01/2019 20:49

So you are prepared to watch a bonfire of regulations that protect workers for an 'insignificantly small' impact.

Health and safety and red tape saves lives. EU regulations mean workers don't die in an unregulated economy.

Working hours regulations save lives.

How dare you imply others don't care and are ignorant when you are willing to cast adrift the poor and the low paid.

You want it dealt with in house? Let me explain this slowly the Tories don't care. The Tories won't do anything to improving anything for the poor and low paid workers. 40 years of the systematic destruction of trade union rights in the U.K. and you want to "deal with it in house"?

Are you a fool or a liar?

QueenieIsLost · 12/01/2019 20:49

Hatel how do you explain that the FOM doesn’t have the effect in lower wages on other EU countries such as Germany or France?
If it was just about FOM, then surely, they shouod suffer just as badly than the U.K.???

Buteo · 12/01/2019 20:49

I am so looking forward to the low tax, low workers rights, low welfare state future planned for the UK by the Brexiteers.

Oh wait a minute ...

Bearbehind · 12/01/2019 20:52

I am so looking forward to the low tax, low workers rights, low welfare state future planned for the UK by the Brexiteers

Exactly.

hate have you stopped to consider the fact that the only possible way we will be able to encourage businesses who need access to the EU market to invest in this country is going to be to offer cheap labour, lower regulation and less taxes.

Otherwise there’s fuck all point in being here.

1tisILeClerc · 12/01/2019 21:06

The great man 'BoJo' stated the UK's attitude to business and since the rest of government have backed him up, EU businesses are doing at they were told and leaving.
Bit of a bummer for the UK though as they will lose the taxes they paid, so bang goes the NHS and social security, and a Million or so jobs.
Well done BoJo.

millyonth · 12/01/2019 21:26

I voted leave and would do so again.
If we ever do manage to leave the EU I would be very optimistic about the UK's prospects. We are a democracy and we can become whatever kind of country we choose. Some people here seem to think that the alt right will be in charge if we Brexit. I don't know why. No doubt we will swing from right wing to left wing governments as we have always done. Most of the world's most successful democracies sit outside the EU - including some European ones such as Norway and Switzerland. We could too.

Bearbehind · 12/01/2019 21:29

If we ever do manage to leave the EU I would be very optimistic about the UK's prospects

What is that that actually based on other than wishful thinking?

millyonth · 12/01/2019 21:31

It's based on confidence in the education and attitude of the people of the UK.

jasjas1973 · 12/01/2019 21:32

Farm workers had the Agricultural wages board until it was abolished in the Conservative led government's "bonfire of the quangos" after the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Act 2013.

That so called quango set min wages, above min wage, provided training and a means of advancement for the humble but skilled farm worker.

SFA to do with the EU, Leavers need to take off the blinkers because you are Turkeys voting for Christmas.

Bearbehind · 12/01/2019 21:33

Which are just words which mean nothing in reality.

What actual facts do you have?

Which industries will flourish?

How will we replace the thousands of JLR jobs for starters?

jasjas1973 · 12/01/2019 21:35

millyonth

You do realise Norway and Switzerland are in EFTA/EEA meaning paying in, taking the rules and no say in the EU .... unbelievable if you are being serious, pls tell me you are joking?

Zero evidence for your other claims, just feelings.

1tisILeClerc · 12/01/2019 21:37

millyonth
Unfortunately democracy and having food to eat aren't that closely related.
Norway and Switzerland have very close ties and trading agreements with the EU.
Without being part of a trading bloc, the UK can be a democratically hungry place unless it finds some way of trading at low tariffs. Trade deals, as you will have read, typically take 7 to 10 years to agree, during which time if the UK trades at WTO base rate (which no one else does as they all have trade deals) puts an average of 10% price hike on everything coming into the UK. Meat can be up to 40% tariff. Realistically, as the UK is so small it needs to be tied up with either the EU, USA, Russia or China. Which would you prefer?

BeardedMum · 12/01/2019 21:37

Lol Norway is not outside the EU.

Bearbehind · 12/01/2019 21:41

Lol Norway is not outside the EU.

Lol

I think you’ll find it is.

BeardedMum · 12/01/2019 21:44

Norway is not a member if the EU, but very much not outside as in the EEA and follow most EU rules incl FOM. Comparing the UK and Norway is ridiculous. They are such different countries.

BeardedMum · 12/01/2019 21:44

I am Norwegian by the way

time4chocolate · 12/01/2019 21:46

Norway is not part of the European Union and never has been. Lol

Moussemoose · 12/01/2019 21:48

millyonth I think we will be controlled by the right. Even when we had a Labour government they were better than the Tories but hey were cowed by big business.

No radical changes to TU legislation, no major changes to privatisation, no radical steps forward in pay and conditions.

Don't kid yourself it can't get worse, it can and it will.

time4chocolate · 12/01/2019 21:48

I am Norwegian by the way that makes it even more Shock

BeardedMum · 12/01/2019 21:48

My point is Norway is so closely associated to the EU we might as well be in.

Moussemoose · 12/01/2019 21:49

Norway is not in the EU but it is a part of it. I think that is the distinction.

time4chocolate · 12/01/2019 21:50

My point is Norway is so closely associated to the EU we might as well be in

But your not!

importantkath · 12/01/2019 21:50

@millyonth Swiss here. You have no idea what you are talking about. Maybe do a little research before spouting untruths
