Corbyn - We can't stop Brexit

Corbyn (just let me remind you all that his highest educational attainment was two Es at A level) has been interviewed by a German Newspaper Der Speigel.

In it he was asked about Brexit, his response was this.

“We can’t stop it,” he said. “The referendum took place. Article 50 has been triggered. What we can do is recognize the reasons why people voted Leave.”

Leaving aside the fact that yes we can stop Brexit at any time. Does that not clearly show where his thinking is that. He is a Brexiteer, he is on the same side as Farage, JRM, Boris etc. And we will do serious damage to this country AGAINST the wish of the majority of people.

The question is what will Labour MPs do?

@GhostofFrankGrimes , yes, I have spotted that we have a Tory Government and they, rather than a cross party team, are negotiating the deal. Thanks for pointing it out. Really helpful.
But I am not an MP. I am not a party leader. I can only trust in them to find a way to fix this mess.
Or do what I currently do and prep my home for the forthcoming catastrophe that not of them seems willing to stop.
Only a no confidence vote in Parliament will get us a new election. Not even Theresa May resigning as PM will do this on its own.

jasjas1973 · 12/11/2018 10:58

Bell - i too think JC is a poor leader, i had hi hopes for him but he has proven to be lacking.
BUT in no way do i blame him or Labour for Brexit, he didn't want a vote and cannot stop brexit... only May can halt or call for a vote.

It is purely a Tory mess and they must own the ensuing disaster s must all the leve voters too, from whatever party.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 12/11/2018 11:00

I can only trust in them to find a way to fix this mess.

That is May's job to do - deliver a good deal. That is what the Tories have promised. Hold them accountable.

bellinisurge · 12/11/2018 11:02

I hold every Leave voter accountable.

jasjas1973 · 12/11/2018 12:11

Apparently the situation facing the country is similar to the surrender of Singapore to the Japanese! (according to the ERG)
So the EU is the USSR, Nazi Germany and now the Japanese of WW2....

But its Labours fault.

Perhaps i can now see why Labour want a GE, this current tory lot are not on another planet but different fucking solar system.

bellinisurge · 12/11/2018 12:22

Not saying it's all Labour's fault but have fun in your trench assuming that's what other people think.
They are all to blame and it isn't just the Tories.
If anyone didn't want this, they should have voted Remain.
If you didn't, it's all on you.
Labour has a job to do as the Opposition Party. Corbyn isn't a silly teenaged flake who can wander around with his own thoughts while the grown ups do the actual work.

Talkstotrees · 12/11/2018 12:42

I find Jeremy Corbyn objectionable on many levels and I can’t see Labour winning a GE with him as leader. But... I liked the understated poppy and thought his coat was v nice 🤷‍♀️

Helmetbymidnight · 12/11/2018 14:00

We all know Corbyn is smeared/undermined by the press.

But we all know he is fecking useless.

One doesn't cancel out the other.

Yaralie · 12/11/2018 17:57

I trust Kier Starmer and even Emily Thornberry more than I trust Corbyn to do what is best for our country.

Talkinpeece · 12/11/2018 19:51

Corbyn is a blinkered idealogue.
He will not allow evidence to update his views
He is unelectable
because only the faithful believe in him
those of us who want evidence based decision making can see that he has no substance

woman11017 · 12/11/2018 20:38

He's also endorsed by man of the people and all round good egg. Mr Farridge:

@Nigel_Farage
Keir Starmer is wrong to say Brexit can be stopped, he should listen to @jeremycorbyn.

bellinisurge · 12/11/2018 20:41

@woman11017 - so many of my views being confirmed in one tweet.

KennDodd · 12/11/2018 20:45

I hold every Leave voter accountable

Me too, after all they always insist they knew exactly what they voted for, well this is it, this mess is what they voted for and what they have unleashed.

woman11017 · 12/11/2018 20:45

Fun isn't it. Bellini I'm looking forward to the SWP treatise on how they're on the rights side of history, with that one. Wink

The EU were never going to give the UK a good deal. They couldn't if they wanted to maintain the union. Any politician should have known that. It should have been obvious from the reaction that David Cameron got when he went to the EU to try and get further concessions from them.

The Tories blatantly used the referendum to stop losing votes to UKIP without any thought that it might backfire and Leave would win.

One thing which has become blatantly obvious is that there is now going to be a large swathe of the voting public who are going to find it very hard to vote for any party in the next election. It seems to me that the idea that politicians go into parliament for the good of the country is dead and buried.

1tisILeClerc · 13/11/2018 06:59

As members of the EU the UK already had one of the 'best' deals available.
The rules of ANY club say they won't give deals to non members that are better than what paying members get.
How difficult is this to understand?

bellinisurge · 13/11/2018 07:12

Why would they give a non-member a good deal. No club does this.
Blaming the EU for negotiation problems is witless.

1tisILeClerc · 13/11/2018 07:37

{Blaming the EU for negotiation problems is witless.}
Unfortunately it is Tory and 'Leavers' policy to blame everyone else.

Gaspodethetalkingdog · 13/11/2018 08:12

Neither party listened to voters over mass immigration, Farage may be an idiot but he did say repeatedly the allowing 300,000 people into the U.K. each year would mean building a city the size of Coventry each year - now the countryside where I live is being concreted over to build expensive houses.

woman11017 · 13/11/2018 08:14

Vote Corbyn get Farridge.

That's going to look good on labour's election leaflets.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 13/11/2018 08:25

And no one listened to people saying that miss immigration would affect smaller towns in terms of the sheer volumes. Immigration only works at smaller levels.

If you shut down debate, tell people they are stupid and only consider the economic arguments in mass immigration, you get Brexit. At ANY cost

woman11017 · 13/11/2018 08:34

No one shuts down debate except the usual suspects.

By 'usual suspects' I mean the SWP and EDL, whoever funds them and allows them to be the mouthpieces of the current tory and labour parties.

Poverty causes racism.
Who caused the poverty?
Who's not going to win power to solve it?

Farridge's little pet, Jezza.
