The DUP are playing silly buggers.
The EU are getting nervous and turning down the pressure.
The ERG still want Schroedingers Brexit.
The Budget is coming. So is a government defeat or climb down.
The M26 is closing.

Keep thinking of the glorious freedom your blue passport will give up whilst you search waste tips.

They aren't doing theatre. They're doing panto.
They're bullying us!
Oh no they're not!
Oh yes they are!

And Nigel Farage is..... Behind You!

MyBrexitGoesOnHoliday · 15/10/2018 14:40

Now I want a nice lemon drizzle cake. (Like the great one dc2 is doing) but I can’t because I’m not supposed to eat gluten and dairy.
You lot are making my life even harder there ! (False anger tone)

I think I’m going to step back for a few days. Too many theatrical antics and they won’t agree anything week (Some Tories still haven’t opened their eyes to the stark reality in front of them)

Peregrina · 15/10/2018 14:42

Is there any hope she will go down the no Brexit at all route? I’m being too optimistic again aren’t I.

Yes.

BigChocFrenzy · 15/10/2018 14:43

EEA / EFTA

Negotiations to enter EEA/EFTA would take 2-3 years, probably longer with this chaotic shower

The EFTA countries do NOT want to go through that for a country that just wants an interim parking place until it finds something better,
especially a country that is so disruptive and disfunctional atm

It would be like letting your aggressive alcoholic cousin stay with you for months, to probably trash your lovely home and scare the cats.
You just wouldn't.

DarlingNikita · 15/10/2018 14:46

MyBrexit, I'm sure you could do a nice one with ground almonds instead of flour, and vegan margarine or some such?

Im very suspicious about the appearance today of Brandon Lewis.

BigChocFrenzy · 15/10/2018 14:47

Applying for EEA / EFTA as a permanent home is different
although the current club members would be very wary now.

If they are sensible they would specify in any accession treaty that they are happy as they are and don*t want the big new member to throw its weight around redesigning the place

Google and Orange building cable between US and France

www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/oct/15/google-orange-building-cable-between-us-france
not directly brexit related, but i'd expect it to have been a factor in the negotiations.
Currently uk telehouse is a significant hub in the global internet. The delivery of this pipe will make it easier for french competitors to grow and facilitate financial trading competition (high speed pipes being sought after in automated trading)
Just another step in reducing the uk's ability to 'punch above our weight'

Hazardswan · 15/10/2018 14:48

mybrexit DP has an extensive list of food nos and you can eat cake from our house Cake

Peregrina · 15/10/2018 14:49

I thought someone like Ian Dunt (or was it one of the Norths?) had said that we were already part of EEA/EFTA partly by virtue of being in the EU, but would have to give notice a year in advance if we wanted to Leave, because withdrawing was a separate agreement. We didn't give notice at the appropriate time, so wouldn't leave.

Does anyone else remember this?

BigChocFrenzy · 15/10/2018 14:54

Peregrina No, we aren't in EFTA
We used to be - in fact we founded it back in about 1960 ! - but we quit to join the then EEC.

You are probably thinking of our EEA membership, which the UK hasn't sepcifically cancelled.
However, both the UK govt and the EU state that A50 and leaving the EU automatically means leaving the EEA too.

There are some rumours the EEA was never cancelled, in case we needed an emergency fallback.
However, on its own without the SM or CU, it is pretty useless.

btw, EEA members = the EU + EFTA + Switzerland

KennDodd · 15/10/2018 14:57

Just got a You gov survey all about Brexit and how I think it will affect the country. Anybody else?

SusanWalker · 15/10/2018 14:59

I want lemon drizzle cake it's my second favourite after carrot cake.

I am however attempting to lose weight so it's just as well I don't have any as there wouldn't be much left. I am determinedly ignoring the cheese and onion walkers in the kitchen.

Peregrina · 15/10/2018 14:59

I do recall that we founded EFTA, having missed the boat on joining the EEC, which we could have done right at the beginning.

I didn't think Switzerland was EEA - those being Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, and that Switzerland was EFTA only with various bi-lateral deals to the EU? Norway, Iceland and Switzerland are in Schengen and have FoM.

BackInTime · 15/10/2018 15:00

Soa Royal baby announcement today, convenient distraction perhaps Hmm

Well it’s working.

BackInTime · 15/10/2018 15:01

So a* 🙄

prettybird · 15/10/2018 15:01

MyBrexit - I have just made this cake for ds using Dove Farm gluten free self-raising flour (and no baking powder as I wasn't sure if the Lidl one is gluten free) as one of his flatmates is coeliac/gluten intolerant. I'd made one a few weeks ago when he was last down and he didn't have space to take it up so dh and I ended up eating it. It was very nice SmileCake glossing over the fact that I am supposed to be on the HFLC MN WoE Blush)

Friend who gave me the recipe used to make it with Dove Farm flour and diary free "butter" (but I just used butter).

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1927/jaffa-drizzle-loaf As per my friend's advice, I used zest of 2 oranges (2nd zest only added at the end of mixing) and a couple of teaspoons of orange essense, and extra orange juice (from the zested oranges ) and orange essence in the drizzle.

Peregrina · 15/10/2018 15:01

Hmph I haven't had a YouGov survey about Brexit. The last one I had was a completely boring one about brands of hi fi, or something, all of which I had never heard of.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/oct/15/sinn-fein-we-will-demand-referendum-on-northern-lreland-in-event-of-no-deal-brexit

"Sinn Fein’s leader Mary Lou McDonald will tell Theresa May that she will demand a referendum on the future of Northern Ireland if there is no deal on Brexit
as a hard border would be erected the instant the UK crashes out of the EU under World Trade Organisation rules.
...
McDonald said that the damage a hard border would be so great to peace and prosperity on the island of Ireland,
the Irish would not just sit back and allow that to happen"

Ahead of a meeting with Theresa May, she said:
“I very much hope that it doesn’t
but if, by accident or design, there is a crash or a no-deal Brexitt^,

Mrs May and whoever is in No 10 needs to understand that in those circumstances the constitutional question would have to be put to the people of Ireland.

There would have to be a border poll, yes.

“You could not countenance such damage and disruption to our island and imagine that we will simply be philosophical about it and move on,”

< I wonder if the RoI would have another referendum on reclaiming the North again - they only gave up their historical claim because of the GFA and if the UK is reneging ... >

bellinisurge · 15/10/2018 15:04

A colleague brought in a Jaffa drizzle cake a few weeks ago. It was lovely- and I don't eat cake. Maybe I should ask them to do another one.[rocks backwards and forwards]

Nissan, which operates Britain’s biggest car factory, has delayed the start of pay talks with its UK staff until the terms of Brexit become clearer
