Westministenders: Talks Walk Out?

We are now on the countdown to whether we get a backstop Withdrawal Deal. May is hoping to get the EU to backdown on this saying that we will stay in the customs union until a deal is agreed on NI. That would mean come 29th March, we'd have no transistion period, but we'd still have a hard border in NI because we were out of the single market. And if the EU don't agree to it we are into the chances of accidental Brexit being sky high. The only way out would be revoking a50. May has hinted that if Tory MPs don't give her support we could end up with no brexit at all - whether she means revoking a50 or Beano isn't clear.

So onward to 18th October...

I’ve seen a lot of suggestions today that ‘liberal’ media should abandon plurality & the airing of illiberal but non-extremist positions because illiberal & extremist media doesn’t afford the same courtesy to us. If we do that, we’ve lost. It’s the whole point of being liberal Yes the supporter of Brendan Cox. I hate people like J O'B.

Some great photos from Wooferendum march today

I agree with him that we certainly should allow illiberal views, so long as they are not advocating violence.
Censorship is a very powerful tool of the state and should only be used on those inciting / enabling serious illegal acts, not immoral ones

I've no idea of his views on Cox

I hope that supposed Corbyn supporter was a spoof, wanting o'Brien & other liberals jailed for criticising JC
However both the hard left and the hard right, let alone the far extremes, are often very intolerant of dissent.

BigChocFrenzy · 07/10/2018 22:19

Gorgeous dogs - and the Pee Station on Farage Grin

Hazardswan · 07/10/2018 22:54

Fantastic wooferendum photos!

My kind of news.

In personal news DP has gotten slightly worse and the treatment management has stepped up. The step up has helped thankfully....but if there's no deal it's going to be harder than I thought. Hopefully he continues to improve and doesn't need such a high level of management.

Crossing fingers that those dogs today have walked some sense into people...!

Apparently he got kicked out of Labour last week. Which at least is a good thing.

The far-right, pro-gun, minority-bashing Brazilian populist, Jair Bolsonaro, appears to have secured a resounding victory in the first-round of his country’s presidential election after surviving a near-fatal assassination attempt, but has fallen just short of the majority required to avoid a second-round run-off.

#Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s wife appeared in court Sunday for the start of her trial over alleged fraud and breach of trust, drawing renewed attention to the many scandals plaguing the prime minister and his family.

red He wasn't a spoof
He genuinely wants journalists jailed for critcism of Corbyn ?

I wonder how many have not been sacked, because they weren't so stupid / blatant as to tweet their wishes to he world

Japan has said it would welcome the UK into the TTP deals but says it is very concerned about SM/CU situation.

bellinisurge · 08/10/2018 08:42

Japan is not every member of that Trade bloc that the US is heading out of, btw.
And the size of the market (which is a loooooong way away) is much smaller than the one right on our doorstep.

1tisILeClerc · 08/10/2018 08:54

I agree, it is a glimmer of hope and of course a bit of hand shaking and warm words are nothing like the ink of a formal contract, which could be years away. Whatever 'deals' might be It may well not match what we have already since the UK would be a junior partner.
The big trade deal that Japan and the EU signed up to recently was 10 years in the making?

metro.co.uk/2018/10/08/two-bullets-found-in-body-of-pilot-flying-putin-prosecutor-linked-to-trump-8015429/

On the relationship between Trump, the UK and Putin....
Pilot found dead with two bullets in his chest.
Russia’s deputy prosecutor general Saak Karapetyan died on on Wednesday when his AS-350 came down in bad weather on a hunting trip 365 miles northeast of Moscow.

lonelyplanetmum · 08/10/2018 09:42

On Trump

Only a small sample, but at our London primary the trickle of children leaving continues. The leavers this time are EU again-German, Polish and Dutch.

The arrivals are one Indian family and two Americans-both the latter Mums told me they and their DHs wanted to get out of Trump's America. So political escapees of a sort I guess.

Is this for real or a hoax?

Michael Gove’s hot tip: hunt for gold in others’ rubbish

Michael Gove has a plan to boost post-Brexit Britain — open the nation’s waste dumps for business.

The environment secretary wants all council waste sites to let people pick over reject appliances, old TVs and half-used paint cans to find things they can use.

If some find the idea Dickensian, they could be right. Gove is a fan of Charles Dickens one of whose books, Our Mutual Friend, is about a family who become rich by sifting rubbish for valuables.

You beat me to it. I saw my report in the "Delhi Mail"

Meanwhile, seems Banksy worked out how to troll Brexit too subtly for some.

1tisILeClerc · 08/10/2018 10:46

While the Gove suggestion has merit, it doesn't help explain how the other 58 million out of 60 million people in the UK will survive.
About 1 out of 10 for effort.

1tisILeClerc · 08/10/2018 10:47

A quick chorus of 'remember your'e a Womble'.

DGRossetti · 08/10/2018 10:52

Japan has said it would welcome the UK into the TTP deals but says it is very concerned about SM/CU situation.

I'm guessing all those veterans who protested when the Emperor visited a while back are all dead now Hmm ? I wonder if their idea of Brexit would be to leave Europe and cosy up to Japan ?

bellinisurge · 08/10/2018 10:52

I'm a prepper and even I draw the line at wombling unless the zombie aliens with bird flu dressed as clowns take over - nod to Praxis Prepper there.

Or maybe not. Great Uncle Bulgaria is just a little too European....
