After disaster after Salzberg and a very predictable humilation over the Chequers Deal which the ERG reject, moderate Brexiteers reject, Remainers reject and the EU reject....

May does a press conference...

...which is delayed by a power shortage inside No. 10.

And....

Lilico has just posted his 2018 predictions. I did, grudgingly, think 'Not bad'. Hunt is definitely a likely leader, I think.

KennDodd · 22/09/2018 22:35

I wonder if an election is to dump the DUP?

SwedishEdith · 22/09/2018 22:36

Oh, interesting Kenn.

SusanWalker · 22/09/2018 22:38

Labour leadership could agree to a 2nd ref but then phrase it deal or no deal without a remain option. It's not a guarantee that we could vote to remain next time. Unless the membership insist on that being written into policy.

RedToothBrush · 22/09/2018 22:40

Seriously though. A GE in November is unlikely.

I believe there has been prep for one in various circles, just in case.

But I'm not buying it.

What has to happen for it to be a reality?

Tories have to vote with Labour in favour of one against the Party Interest.

I repeat.

Tories would have to vote with Labour in favour of one against the Party Interest.

Now call me rather cynical, but I can't see this happening.

If they could dump the DUP theresa would sign up to a border in the Irish sea faster than you can say love egg necklace.

8) A virtual reality based game, using a head-up display variant of the Pokemon Go concept, will be widely discussed. There will be several notorious accidents caused by virtual reality players using their HUDs whilst driving.

I'll give him his due. There is a new pokemon go tie in game due out in November.

No head set though.

@britainelects
In the event Parliament votes down Theresa May's Brexit deal, there should be a general election:

Support: 50%
Oppose: 29%

bellinisurge · 22/09/2018 22:54

Unless Corbyn said in any snap GE "Vote Labour and we will Remain if we win", I couldn't hold my nose and vote for Labour. Lifelong Labour voter.

Nintendo have an expensive new console to flog just in time for Christmas.

You can now play with the imaginary pokemon, you caught outside in a park with a bunch of strangers whilst everyone else thinks you are crazy for walking round in circles for three hours on a sat, on your TV whilst sat on you sofa.

BigChoc
Hermione That law can very easily be reversed if May had decided to be spiteful.
Might still be if she / her successors play to the nationalist gallery

^Parliament can so easily pass a new law expelling them all with 3 months notice (even if there isn't sufficient transport to do so)
This is why the EU wants any agreement with the EU to have backstops and penalties if the UK changes its mind^

E27 expat rights are NOT safe

^^THIS

That is why I think her mention of the three million was meant as a reminder to the EU that she holds power over their lives, not in any way as a guarantee.

It also highlights that she has in fact been holding their fate as an ace up her sleeve up to now.

Of course nothing is in writing, and nobody should rely on the mere word of TM, whether in private or included in a public statement. This is very well understood by the Irish.

WhatWouldScoobyDoo · 23/09/2018 00:03

Really interesting Yougov poll questions yesterday. Asking how much the government is trusted, what nationality (Scottish/British/other) do I self-identify as, what major concerns have appeared in my life over the last two years (!!), etc. Usually they seem to want to know what radio stations I listen to so this was a major change of focus.

missclimpson · 23/09/2018 05:50

Very interesting stuff in the Observer about the YouGov poll of Labour members support for a people's vote. Especially the fact that the highest support at 90% is in the 60+ age group.

mathanxiety · 23/09/2018 06:56

Can anyone suggest an historical parallel to the position the government is in at the moment ?

"The Grouchy Ladybug" by Eric Carle springs to mind.

('Hey you, want to fight?')

borntobequiet · 23/09/2018 07:14

I would vote Labour if they guaranteed a second ref with a remain option.

A drunken pub brawl, any Saturday night?

MangoSplit · 23/09/2018 07:18

Place marking

missclimpson · 23/09/2018 07:27

I really hope that will come out of conference borntobequiet. I don't see how the leadership can duck out of that overwhelming support for a people's vote from members, but I suppose they might still try.

Morgan Stanley and Bloomberg thought a 2018 election not impossible, a year ago and earlier this year respectively.
US midterms Nov 6th. I’d enjoy the symmetry if we had a Nov election.
