I'm guessing surfer won't start another thread as the questions were getting a bit difficult on the last one. 😂

Thought this was worthy of discussion though

So it turns out those pesky EU immigrants actually contribute more than the average UK citizen.

Who knew 🤔

Didn't Farage and the ERG want another referendum so that they could overturn the original one, and had this one gone the other way, Farage said it would be 'unfinished business'. So it's a bit rich for Leavers to grumble about Remainers wanting another. But why don't Leavers want one on the terms? Or is any old pig's ear OK?

For people who do believe that we should be governed by referenda, then there is every reason for them to be held at regular intervals, to be asked 'is this still your will?'

Bearbehind · 21/09/2018 14:18

Holy shit - that speech will shake it all up.

How fucking arrogant is TM?

I actually now think her plan is to drive us off a cliff and then blame all Leavers for the epic catastrophe that will ensue.

That's what all the 'respecting the vote' is about.

It is your monkey, it is your circus.

What has she said?

Told the EU to fuck off?
Hard brexit here we come?

Bearbehind · 21/09/2018 14:28

Not far off surfer

Shite along the lines of 'we need to be treated with respect' and 'you need to explain why Chequers won't work'

That insta photo from Donald Tusk about the cakes has really pissed her off so she's going to throw the country under a bus to get her revenge.

OP posts:

I can’t say her blame her.

I ! < walking & typing >

1tisILeClerc · 21/09/2018 15:04

Oh the irony of it being a big red bus with a slogan on it.

Bearbehind · 21/09/2018 15:13

I can’t say her blame her.

You don't blame her for putting HER pride before the economy of an ENTIRE country.

FFS.

Well that'll show then, give me what I want or I'll destroy my own country.

twofingerstoEverything · 21/09/2018 15:28

There's quite a lot more of this sort of thing on the Macron thread, too. We should throw ourselves off the cliff. That would show them!

surferjet · 21/09/2018 15:43

No I don’t blame her.
I fully support every word she’s said.
The EU have scored a massive own goal by treating us with ridicule & contempt.
They hate us for having the guts to leave & they want to punish us.
& you support these bullying wankers?
Well more fool you.

I’d have told them to go fuck themselves months ago.

KennDodd · 21/09/2018 15:51

What about India saying no trade deal without more immigration? Or New Zealand and South Korea saying no we wont just copy and paste current eu deals, and what did America want? Didn't Trump have some hoop he wanted us to jump though to get a trade deal? Fuck them all?

We have fucked up massively with Brexit and the pigeons are coming home to roost.

1tisILeClerc · 21/09/2018 15:56

Interesting attitude Surfer.
The EU have been waiting for over 2 years for the UK, who are the ones who want to leave, come up with a plan that at lease acknowledges EU rules. if a different country were attempting to leave I assure you the UK government would be similarly pissed off with them. The UK is FORCING the EU27 to waste money just to accommodate the UK leaving.
The total contempt that the UK gov have shown towards the EU by not getting sensible plans together is being watched by the world who are rubbing their hands together with glee as the UK is about to be totally shafted (pardon the expression) as it is getting desperate for deals, ANY deals, no matter how bad they might be. The UK is a small island and is isolating itself from the most prosperous trading block and will have relatively little 'clout' when it comes to deals.
The ones penciled in with Africa represent about 9 months of BMW's car production.

1tisILeClerc · 21/09/2018 15:59

JRM's waffle he was spouting about WTO rules carefully omitted that trade deals take 5 - 10 years to set up so I hope you are good at holding your breath.

Yes, but you have a tendency to look at everything through Daily Express-style blinkers, while ignoring the FACT that the UK government has had two years to come up with a viable negotiating stance, but has instead spent the time engaging in internal squabbles like a bunch of spoilt toddlers. And now, like toddlers, they/you are saying the EU is a big meanie because they won't pander to us.

You clearly have a different perspective on this, which is fair enough, but this does not mean the EU are "bullying wankers". That's just your own narrow-minded view, although I've no doubt it's shared by others of a similar mindset.

time4chocolate · 21/09/2018 16:40

The EU really haven’t done themselves any favours in the last 24 hours - bit of an own goal really.

FWIW I fully agree with what TM said.

Bearbehind · 21/09/2018 16:57

I do think Tusks cake photo was regrettable albeit entirely understandable.

The EU must be beyond frustrated with TM, she has skin thicker than a rhino.

She has been 'unofficially' told by them from day 1 that Chequers was not viable, yet when it's is officially spelt out to her she gets all indignant.

And to top it off, has the nerve today to ask for it to be detailed why it's not acceptable FFS.

The only issue with the cake photo is that it's played right into the 'EU are bullies' narrative so favoured by Leavers.

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 21/09/2018 17:00

It's going to go 1 of 2 ways now as the EU isn't going to back down on the 4 freedoms so it's either

  • hard Brexit and TM will endlessly repeat that every thing that follows was because she 'respected the vote'
  • the grown ups will force a u-turn on SM/CU

Despite the latter being my previously preferred option, I actually want option 1 now.

It's the only way Leavers are ever going to shut up and see what they've done.

Lottapianos · 21/09/2018 17:04

'The EU really haven’t done themselves any favours in the last 24 hours - bit of an own goal really.'

Donald Tusk's photo was very childish and unnecessary. Other than that, I see no problems with how the EU has behaved

Peregrina · 21/09/2018 17:57

- the grown ups will force a u-turn on SM/CU

Where exactly are the grown ups? They are not in Parliament, on either side of the House, that's for sure.

Industry, Aviation, Road Hauliers, Health Chiefs etc, have been behaving like grownup s and saying for months that they need certainty and have had fools like Redwood, Davis, Fox, telling them to get behind Brexit. and just don't want to listen.

Bearbehind · 21/09/2018 18:05

They are the grown ups I was thinking of peregrina

Those chiefs need to SHOUT now, else we are all screwed.

Again for any one thinking no deal is desireable please read the openner to the thread here
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3370225-I-know-Im-annoying-but

It really isn't about who voted what anymore but about the plans to ensure safety are adequate and inadequacy can be deadly.

People deserve better than what they are getting already what they'll dish up in a no deal is worse. Demand better.

Bearbehind · 21/09/2018 18:27

hazward you don't need to convince me no deal will be disastrous but it doesn't seem to make a blind bit of differences to Leavers.

I simply don't see another option than the 2 I listed above and BINO will lead to Leavers moaning forever.

Whilst I couldn't give a shite about that, I do now think there's a very strong sense TM is doing all this to make them reap what they've sown.

BINO would be political suicide for her and destroy the Tory party.

Whilst I always assumed good sense would prevail, I now don't think it will.

Arrogance, pride and pigheaded behaviour is going to destroy the econmy instead.

Fucking marvellous.

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 21/09/2018 18:42

At what point are Leavers going to start to question TMs lies?

She said today that Donald Tusk hadn't given any detail about why Chequers was a no go, which anyone with half a brain know is utter bollocks.

Thankfully Tusk has responded with this

We studied the Chequers proposals in all seriousness. The results of our analysis have been known to the British side in every detail for many weeks. After intensive consultations with Member States, we decided that for the good of the negotiations, and out of respect for the efforts of PM May, we will treat the Chequers plan as a step in the right direction.
