I'm guessing surfer won't start another thread as the questions were getting a bit difficult on the last one. 😂

Thought this was worthy of discussion though

So it turns out those pesky EU immigrants actually contribute more than the average UK citizen.

Who knew 🤔

Always though happy to kowtow to the USA when going to war is concerned.

10degreestostarboard · 04/10/2018 22:01

Sovereignty is the ability to sack your rulers

I can’t sack the eu leadership
I have no right of reply to eu laws
We no longer have our own trade policy

Ergo we are not sovereign, we are a vassal state

Fortunately that is all about to change. Plus we may get to change our chicken supplier. Win win.

Moussemoose · 04/10/2018 22:05

10 and yet again you demonstrate you have no idea what you are talking about * "Sovereignty is the ability to sack your rulers*"

Nope -sorry you are wrong.

Just cos you say it doesn't make it true. Can't be arsed to explain why you are wrong because you don't listen and you don't care.

Bearbehind · 04/10/2018 22:05

You keep telling yourself that 10 but it doesn't make it true.

You can't 'sack your rulers'

You never could and you never will.

They are all a bunch of self absorbed fuckwits.

It's a 2 horse race which is a choice between a rock and a hard place.

Definitely worth fighting for - not.

The only 'sovereign' in the UK is HRH the Queen, everyone else are subjects and didn't get to 'vote' for her.
{I can’t sack the eu leadership}
You can, only the head spokespersons are 'selected'. All actual laws and regulations are VOTED for by individual county's MEPs. The UK has many 'opt outs' like using the Pound.

{I have no right of reply to eu laws}
You do, through your MEPs, who are elected by you.

{We no longer have our own trade policy}.
All trade policies are 'agreements' between at least 2 parties. You can't for example go into a car showroom and DEMAND that they sell you a £20,000 car for £500.
WTO trade rules are a hell of a lot more complicated. If you want to buy apples from New Zealand, EVERY other country that New Zealand sells apples to is involved in the discussion and can raise objections if they think it is unfair. That is why WTO trade agreements take up to 10 years or more to establish. Ministers telling you 'WTO is easy' are simply lying.

Peregrina · 04/10/2018 22:28

we are a vassal state
But Rees-Mogg says that BINO would lead to the UK becoming a vassal state, which means that it isn't one at the moment. Rees-Mogg as an arch Leaver must know more than us poor remainers.Grin

bellinisurge · 05/10/2018 07:41

"We are a vassal state" - this rehashed nonsense is the gift that keeps on giving. Grin

Spreadingcudweed · 05/10/2018 08:13

One of the persistent misunderstandings about sovereignity is that we have ceded it to the EU, when in fact we have agreed to collectively share sovereignity in certain limited areas only. The same can be said of ceding/sharing sovereignity with organisations such as the WTO, and the United Nations. Therefore the notion that we can "take back control" post Brexit is just marketing spin.

jasjas1973 · 05/10/2018 08:37

Yes the Gov is trying to negotiate 3rd country membership of EASA (for flying post brexit)

This means we'll have to take ALL the rules of EASA, pay in (as before) but have zero say.

It'll be exactly the same if we negotiate membership of the other EU agencies such as EuraTom

As said by @Spread "Take back control" is as meaningless as "footballs coming home"

1tisILeClerc · 05/10/2018 09:12

You can only 'take back control' if you are in a dominant position. The UK is not in this position now, and hasn't been for many years.
Changing to WTO trading rules we will be bottom of the pile. Everyone else has trade deals already.

frumpety · 05/10/2018 20:10

Sovereignty is the ability to sack your rulers

Is it ? Marvellous, a couple of hundred letters in the post in the morning should see a new dawn in the Conservative party, might fire a few off to labour and the lib dems too, thank you 10 if only I had been aware of how easy it would be to take back control Grin

On the Lidl brandy now, gargling it for medicinal purposes Wink

frumpety · 05/10/2018 20:13

Or I may just email them all this link Grin

bellinisurge · 05/10/2018 23:15

"Sovereignty is the ability to sack your rulers"
Let me introduce to the House of Lords and the UK Supreme Court.

bellinisurge · 05/10/2018 23:17

And obviously the Queen, who, despite, studiously avoiding involvement in politics her whole life on the throne, has quite a lot of power when there is a hung Parliament. I must have missed her election.

1tisILeClerc · 05/10/2018 23:27

HRH is the only Sovereign. Everyone else are merely subjects.

1tisILeClerc · 08/10/2018 22:00

Fine by me but this particular one has a funny look in it's eyes in a slightly menacing way.
Maybe it has been reading the reports of Brexit progress and it is making him/her angry.

frumpety · 09/10/2018 06:59

Better ?

Not the Brexit Arms again
1tisILeClerc · 09/10/2018 08:10

I am not sure I fancy my chances of catching squirrel to eat post Brexit , they are far too fast and bitey for my liking bellini , however there is plenty of pheasant and wood pigeon in my neck of the woods, along with a surplus of myxy rabbits , not zoonotic so safe to eat Smile
