I'm guessing surfer won't start another thread as the questions were getting a bit difficult on the last one. 😂

Thought this was worthy of discussion though

So it turns out those pesky EU immigrants actually contribute more than the average UK citizen.

Who knew 🤔

'BINO will lead to Leavers moaning forever.'

They will moan forever anyway, but with BINO the country won't get utterly screwed into the ground while they're moaning

Bearbehind · 21/09/2018 19:08

Totally agree lotta but something changed today.

This isn't about what is right or wrong now, it's about May saving face.

It's fucking scary that she's prepared to do ANYTHING to do that.

Also that's she's deliberately building it up to be the fault of those who voted for it when it's all gone to rat shit.

I honestly thinks she's backed herself into a corner she can't get out of now.

I was the biggest advocate of there being a u-turn on SM/ CU but I just can't see how she could do that now.

And the EU are never going to back down on the 4 freedoms. They simply can't. It's their whole ethos.

So we're fucked.

bear wasn't directed at you dw just a general LOOK BAD lets nag and scream till we're blue in the face and they can ignore me but can they ignore many me's

Doubletrouble99 · 21/09/2018 21:19

I also agree with everything TM said today. I think she did very well to stand fast - although I don't agree with a lot of her Chequers plan- This is getting to the sharp end of the negotiations and she really shouldn't back down. It was always going to be like this.

Bearbehind · 21/09/2018 21:22

double totally serious question here.

How can you possibly say you 'agree with everything TM said' whilst also saying you don't agree with the Chequers plan?

That's all she's offering.

OP posts:
jasjas1973 · 21/09/2018 21:36

If May was a capable PM, she wouldn't have been so stupid to have put herself in the situation she found herself in at Salzburg.

Everyone and his dog told her chequers wasn't acceptable, either to the EU or her own party, she failed to listen.

Who is advising her?

Bearbehind · 21/09/2018 21:57

That's the part that scares the shit out of me jas

Everyone repeatedly told TM that Chequers was no go.

Yet not only did she ignore them, she had the audacity to claim no one had explained WHY it was a problem.

Anyone with that amount of gall isn't stupid, she's a fucking liability.

OP posts:
Doubletrouble99 · 21/09/2018 22:05

What I meant was that I agreed with her stance.

Bearbehind · 21/09/2018 22:10

You can't agree with her stance if you don't agree with her proposal though.

It's madness if you do.

OP posts:
1tisILeClerc · 21/09/2018 22:23

She was spineless. She was saying the Chequers crap was all there is going to be so the logical conclusion is that the UK is out, so just declare it now. At least doing that would get some credibility and with some wrangling may stop some manufacturers leaving. Dragging this charade on for another 6 months will simply ensure that many manufacturers and cross border traders disappear.

Bearbehind · 21/09/2018 22:26

Totally agree. I thought that's what she was doing to start with.

I literally cannot believe her tone and the fact she was arrogant enough to say she hadn't been told why Chequers won't work.

That's why I'm convinced we are heading for disaster.

She's a fucking lunatic.

Bear genuine question who would you choose if not TM?

2BoysandaCairn · 21/09/2018 22:39

I am a remainer, and a left of centre voter.
But I too admire Theresa May, before you ask bear because unlike any of our other lily livered Politian's she has had the guts to try and find a solution to this country's woes.

I blame fellow remainers more then the likes of Time4chocolate and surferjet, we failed to win the argument in 2016, but instead of knuckling down and try to win the long game/fight they have just constantly demanded we should overturn/rerun/ignore the results.

We should have worked with the likes of Dr Richard North, to gain sensible common ground, agreed to leave but under EFTA rules for 5 to 10 years and used that safety umbrella to find our place in the new world order. But you didn't, you allowed the extremists to win.

I as a father of a fresher's week Ds1 and a year 11 Ds2, I need Mrs May to win the best possible deal for the UK.
In 20 years time our DC will look back and if we have screwed this up, blame all adults, because 48% of the voters acted like toddlers and spat their dumbies out and took their bat and ball home.

This hasn't been Britain's finest hour, we have acted like 2 year olds and I am embarrassed for the future citizens of this fine country.

So stop the infighting, shut up and have the inquest in 2020, right now get off your high horse and back Britain, because if you don't my kids and their brilliant friends and counterparts around Britain are screwed.

Shame on all of us.

Bearbehind · 21/09/2018 22:42

time

Ruth Davidson, but she won't do it.

OP posts:
Hazardswan · 21/09/2018 22:43

Bollocks.

Hazardswan · 21/09/2018 22:44

Oh Ruth is nice considering she's a Tory.

Bearbehind · 21/09/2018 22:45

because unlike any of our other lily livered Politian's she has had the guts to try and find a solution to this country's woes.

I agree she's put her neck on the line but it's out of stupid arrogance.

BJ was too clever and could see it for the poisoned chalice it is.

TM was too blinded by the title to work that out.

That doesn't make her worth of respect.

It makes her a fucking idiot.

And what exactly do you suggest we do?

OP posts:
Moussemoose · 21/09/2018 22:49

2BoysandaCairn opposition is fundamental to democracy. So should everyone just support a democratically elected leader no matter what they do? Any constitution is only as strong as its opposition.

Opposing a decision is as important as supporting it.

2BoysandaCairn · 22/09/2018 00:45

bear
Honestly I don't know, I am only a dad, but I fear it's too late anyway.
I have come to realise in the last 2 years we are all alike, leavers/remainers/non voters. No one really understood what we where truly voting for.
Leave voters aren't the Devil incarnate
Remain voters aren't saints
We are all trying to improve our daily lives.

Moussemoose
Yes opposition is fundamental, but so is making sure the future is worth living, so right now it really isn't the time to keep rehashing the referendums arguments. We need to pull together, then once we have a deal, yes fight tooth and nail, protest, back Hazardswan's campaign to keep carers alive. Because if we not careful that campaign won't be worth fighting because we won't have a deal and it will be every one for themselves.

Like I say I despair, we are meant to be the oldest democracy in the world, we are actually more like the poor souls on the titanic, rearranging deck chairs as we sink. To my kids generation we are selling them out, and you know what most don't care if we stay or leave, they just want a future.

Daddybegood · 22/09/2018 07:25

But 2boysandacairn, you say that 'we are all trying to improve our daily lives'...surely that is what many posters on here are trying to do?
How do you think our daily lives will improve if the GFA breaks down, we could easily see the return of bombs in London, Dublin, Omagh, Birmingham....and the government has advised to stockpile foods and medicines ....and yet there are still some brexiteers (who clearly don't rely on imported medications to stay alive) waving their union Jack knickers celebrating how patriotic they are. This brexit in any form will be the most damaging thing to yours and my own kids future and you would like us all to just keep quiet and get behind it??? ...really???
To be honest, when I read about the impact on those who require meds, or who may be impacted from a return to the troubles, or those who could lose their jobs or EU/British citizens being used as negotiation pawns, or fiod shortages on supermarket shelves, I think only the emotionally incontinent would stay quiet (la la la la fingers in my ears types) and for those who carry on cheering on such implications they should feel truly ashamed......(But we all know they will just blame someone else)

bellinisurge · 22/09/2018 07:30

The shame is not with people who could see it would be a bad move and tried to stop it with their vote in a be referendum. Silly of people to assume that a vote for Remain meant we were all in love with the EU. It was all about seeing more positive than negative for me. Others felt varying degrees of that.
If we have some sort of deal or no deal referendum, I would vote deal to avoid a no deal disaster. Doesn't mean I want us to be even in that position. But the opportunity to vote Remain has gone.
I hope we avoid a no deal fuck up but if we can't, my "coming together in the national interest " switch is turned off. I would hope the idiots who voted for this suffer food shortages and a screwed up future.
I prep to manage the shortages and, mercifully, my family is all entitled to EU citizen ship through an Irish mum and FIL. My dd can do and go where she wants or stay here and make something of it. Her choice. A choice Leave voters tried to take off her.

Not the Brexit Arms again
GhostofFrankGrimes · 22/09/2018 08:08

Yesterday’s charade was about getting the gutter press onside. Here comes the jingoism and xenophobia. Dangerous times.

1tisILeClerc · 22/09/2018 08:20

Is Mrs May in that made up photo being disrespectful?
Is the union flag the right way up?
Now is the time (well actually 2 years ago was the time) to put heads down, shut up and concentrate on a plan.
The whole world will be seeing this pantomime on their TV and newspapers, even if they don't actually give a damn in their normal lives.
This nonsense is truly sickening.
