I'm guessing surfer won't start another thread as the questions were getting a bit difficult on the last one. 😂

Thought this was worthy of discussion though

So it turns out those pesky EU immigrants actually contribute more than the average UK citizen.

Who knew 🤔

But UK banks (or uk operating banking entities owned by furriners) can use MasterCard because they have a deal based on the UK's membership of the EU.

Good idea to slowly build a stash of cash. Even a little bit. A really little bit. Like £20. Better than nothing.
Do what you can afford and feel safe having.

Buteo · 19/09/2018 11:55

UK banks will need to restructure so that they can continue to operate in the EU - we’re already seeing jobs shift to Dublin, Frankfurt etc to maintain licences to operate in the EU banking sectors. Payment services will need to do the same.

For instance, payments companies will probably need to obtain a new authorisation from a regulator in another EU state and passport from there around the EU. Most will then have a UK licence and report to the UK regulator and in addition have a new licence and report to a new regulator elsewhere in the EU.

Additionally, VISA for instance may have to completely shift its physical presence from the UK to the EU due to the requirement to keep its European data within the EU.

My hope was, & still is, that brexit will free up more money to help the most vulnerable in this country

For starters, there is plenty of money in this country, always has been, the Gov has magicked up 3billion just for brexit preparations, 5billion for cuts to corp tax, 2 billon to cut IHT thresholds....... 100 billion for Trident, billions for a railway that few even want!!!!!
yet various schemes and benefits for the disabled have been cut or removed.

Even if Brexit is a storming success, there is zero evidence any government, Lab or Tory will spend more it on, governments can't even properly support ex service men and women

There are few votes in adequate provision for the the most vulnerable in this country.... i'll give an example..... a friend works for a hospice, they ve a guy who is terminally ill on work placement! he falls asleep daily at his desk, he still has to prove he is searching for a job....no one gives a fuck.

bellinisurge · 19/09/2018 12:08

To hope that it will free up money for the vulnerable is a big punt on a dodgy pony. Westminster has to replace all the inward investment it currently doesn't have to fund because the EU does it.
I get the argument that we don't get as much back as we pay, even if you count inward investment. But a whole just in time economy runs on frictionless borders which we lose from Day One. And EU/Third country trade deals which we fall out of onDay one.
The already vulnerable people will just get shunted to the back of an angry queue when the supermarket shelves run empty.
I totally accept our economy can, slowly but surely, be clawed back but not without a lot of pain. Having watched my generation getting fucked over by Thatcher For The Greater Good, forgive me if I doubt things will get better for the vulnerable anytime soon.
Google "Norman Tebbitt" and "on your bike". And while you're at it Google Norman Tebbitt and Brighton Bomb and see what kind of fuckers Jeremy Corbyn shakes hands with.

indistinct · 19/09/2018 13:31

One addition @bellinisurge; worth mentioning that if we get a WA and transition/implementation phase then JIT supply chain failure and other Brexit impacts will be delayed until full exit in Dec 20/Jan 21. There'll be further degradation of the economy but it'll likely continue at this current pace. Depending on where we are at that point we may see a more rapid decline in the run-up to and immediately after completion of the transition/implementation phase.

1tisILeClerc · 19/09/2018 13:49

I feel that the writing is on the wall already.
It is going to take some serious 'rabbits out of hats' to persuade many companies to want to stay. Although BoJo's 'F business' was crass, there has been no significant effort to alter the situation. With ministers shouting 'project fear' hours before BMW announcing several weeks shutdown, indicates the level of either stupidity or sheer bloody mindedness.

bellinisurge · 19/09/2018 13:57

@indistinct , quite right. If we get a transition period and don't crash out, it still means we need to get it sorted.

Hazardswan · 19/09/2018 16:48

surfer

Here is the link to my thread in chat, it has an easy peasy no fuss link to contact your MP to let them know how you feel brexit is going.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3370225-I-know-Im-annoying-but

The med thing really isnt about who voted what or who is right or wrong. Its about making sure that whatever the weather disabled people, sick people are cared for.

surferjet · 19/09/2018 17:05

Hi Hazardswan

Haven't we been here before?

TM agreeing to treat NI differently, only to be told to FO by the DUP?

Is the bar open yet?

Over on AIBU The usual suspects are arguing the same arguments they've argued a 1000x before.

I’ll just sit here quietly at the bar sipping a Diet Coke & listen to some jazz.

time4chocolate · 20/09/2018 17:22

For you Surfer 😃

Bearbehind · 20/09/2018 17:25

surfer, did you think anymore about where you realistically see money for the poor and vulnerable coming from now?

OP posts:
surferjet · 20/09/2018 17:40

time4chocolate 😂😂😂😂😂

surferjet · 20/09/2018 17:42

Bearbehind

I haven’t really been thinking about anything much lately tbh.

Bearbehind · 20/09/2018 17:48

You do frustrate me surfer

Yesterday you said that you might regret your vote in 10 years if the poor have got poorer.

There's abosoultely no evidence that there's going to be more money for the poor and vulnerable, in fact quite the contrary- it's clear there is going to be a decline in everyone's standard of living.

Yet, when questioned on it, you just stick your head in the sand.

A nice cup of tea is called for. No work tomorrow so I will live it large with a small glass of wine later.

woman11017 · 20/09/2018 18:02

Which jazz do you like? Genuine question.Smile
I'll put something on the jukebox.

surferjet · 20/09/2018 18:20

Oh I like all the old stuff, Billie Holiday, John Coltrane, stuff not many people like Grin
But from the modern era I don’t mind a bit of Van Morrison ( moon dance ) that’s very pub friendly Smile
