I'm guessing surfer won't start another thread as the questions were getting a bit difficult on the last one. 😂

Thought this was worthy of discussion though

So it turns out those pesky EU immigrants actually contribute more than the average UK citizen.

Who knew 🤔

Nice maths there over the referendum result being 26%

On your logic no uk government in living memory should have been in power

Remainers: grasping at straws (and chlorinated chicken) since 2016

10degreestostarboard · 04/10/2018 19:28

Buteo

Yes that’s what must cause 300 odd deaths per year in a population in the hundred of millions

What next? Don’t like US cars because they have more road traffic accidents?

And as to the poster who doesn’t like the thought of chlorinated chicken - I thought all you remainers dealt in fact only and didn’t like all those thoughts and feelings...

Bearbehind · 04/10/2018 19:29

Nothing to do with 'nice maths'

Only 26% of the population voted for this shit show.

And you can guarantee, when it does turn to rat shit, very few of that 26% will admit to it.

10 could you try and use a little bit of critical thinking please?

Why would you chose to eat any kind of food which has had to be covered in disinfectant in order to make it safe to eat?

Given that one of the things that the US might require in a trade deal with them is that there is no labelling to identify that chicken is chlorine washed (that, indirectly, is one of the justifications for Westminster have grabbed back devolved food labelling "power" from the Scottish Parliament), we, the public, might not be able to tell if chicken is chlorine washed or not Angry

So much for "taking back control" Confused

I don’t know, but I strongly suspect that no uk government has ever had a absolute majority as against the size of the uk population

But - because it gave a result you personally don’t like - you offer a different standard to the 2016 vote

Democracies a bitch eh?

10degreestostarboard · 04/10/2018 19:35

Prettybird

Sigh. Why would I care if my chicken is chlorinated? Statistically speaking (based on the US experience) I have a much higher chance of being killed in my car on the way to the supermarket to buy said chicken...

1tisILeClerc · 04/10/2018 19:37

Maybe 10 will have a quick look at 'Henry Viii powers' and tell us all why he thinks they might be a good idea?
It will be more interesting than talking chicken, chlorinated or not.

Bearbehind · 04/10/2018 19:39

10 is a GF who is only interested in trying to provoke a reaction but ends up looking a twat because there's zero substance behind her / his arguments.

Not the best advert for Leave but sadly, representative.

10degreestostarboard · 04/10/2018 19:40

Ah that’s it - change the example to something else...

Tell me why Henry viii powers are any worse than taking laws from foreign soil

I find it odd that you have issue with the former but not the latter

But maybe you aren’t a patriot...

I find those resorting to insults and derision have usually not only lost a key vote, but the argument as well.

Buteo · 04/10/2018 19:42

Nice try 10degrees but we are talking rates not absolute numbers:

The US reports higher rates of illness from food borne illness than in the UK. Annually, 14.7% (48m) of the US population suffer from an illness, versus 1.5% (1m) in the UK. This is nearly ten times the percentage of population.

The US reports higher rates of deaths from foodborne illness than in the UK. The annual death rate in the US is 3000 per annum, versus 500 in the UK. [The US population is about 5 times the size of the UK.]

If you want to talk absolute numbers:

The US Centre of Disease Control and Prevention reports around 380 deaths in the US each year attributed to foodborne salmonella poisoning. The most recent epidemiological lab data from Public Health England shows no deaths in England and Wales from salmonella between 2005 and 2015. Salmonella food poisoning is most commonly caused by consumption of contaminated food of animal origin, such as beef, chicken, milk, fish or eggs.

www.sustainweb.org/news/feb18_US_foodpoisoning/

But feel free to eat chlorinated chicken as you’re so convinced it’s an adequate food product.

jasjas1973 · 04/10/2018 19:42

That would be the UK going from ZERO to 70 deaths plus all those who survive with serious disability and the associated cost.

so, no thanks.

However, i think the DM reading middle classes would prevent a significant fall in animal welfare standards, no politician likes his or her constituency linked to ill health and terrible farming practices.

Also in any FTA (going fwd) with the EU we will be bound by THEIR rules, the EU being the more powerful partner.

Its one thing i agree with JRM on, we'll become a vasel state, so ironically we WILL be ruled by a foreign power, with zilch say, its not what i want.

Bearbehind · 04/10/2018 19:45

Not insulting you at all 10 it's just fact you only want a reaction.

I can't continue any argument when you don't argue your case.

Tell my why you're happy to eat chicken washed in chlorine and I'll engage.

Tell me where these miraculous cheap vacuums are coming from and I'll engage.

Tell me what rules we'll get rid of outside the EU, with our new found soverignity and I'll engage.

There you go again

Why don’t YOU tell ME don’t want chicken washed in chlorine

Have you ever been to a swimming pool? Any swimming pool, anywhere? You wash you in chlorine...

Jesus

frumpety · 04/10/2018 19:48

10 sweetie , it was only 26.5% of the population who voted to leave the EU. Maths and a fact all rolled into one. I know it doesn't quite tally with 'will of the people' but there you have it.

We differ in how we expect those democratically elected should proceed knowing such figures Smile

Bearbehind · 04/10/2018 19:50

FFS 10

I don't want to eat food that's only safe by washing it in bleach.

Food that's covered in maggots and disease if left untreated.

Swimming pools

A) are chlorine diluted in water

B) only touch you on the outside, they do not go internally

Frumpety

So can I expect to see you at protests at the fact the the last 100 years of uk government didn’t have a proper popular mandate?

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 04/10/2018 19:51

10Degrees if there is, from the figures, approximately 1 death per million people per year from salmonella poisoning attributable to poor food hygiene in the USA, you would expect a similar level, so about 60 deaths, per year in the UK. We have approximately none.

Of course deaths may be relatively higher if the affected are uninsured and unable to access good healthcare, so the figures may be slightly skewed, but Brexit risks is moving swiftly to a US model of healthcare anyway, so perhaps it will even out.

I find this significantly increased risk unacceptable. I will continue to eat UK free range chicken and eggs. Others do not have this luxury.

jasjas1973 · 04/10/2018 19:52

@MeganBacon

Being irreversible doesn't make it undemocratic

But surely, it must be undemocratic because being able to change ones mind (and be able to act on it) is democracy in action, so we have by law GE's every 5 years, with Governments and ministers accountable for their actions.
An irreversible decision (what ever it is) by referendum, with no one accountable is the mark of a dictatorship.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 04/10/2018 19:52

us not is

10degreestostarboard · 04/10/2018 19:57

Bearbehind

Check the stats above - deaths are negligible from your rogue chicken

Buteo · 04/10/2018 19:59

Have you ever been to a swimming pool? Any swimming pool, anywhere? You wash you in chlorine...

And in pools that aren’t deck level or are poorly ventilated you’ll be breathing in elevated levels of chloramines which are a significant cause of asthma.

10degreestostarboard · 04/10/2018 20:00

Wise up

That doesn’t change the fact that you are going to need a different ‘smoking gun’ if you wish to try and convince the overwhelming numbers of people who don’t read threads like this, no longer care about Brexit to the extent we do and couldn’t care less if their chicken was chlorinated or pickled.

frumpety · 04/10/2018 20:01

Ha oh yes I will man the barricades 10 , well I could do a couple of days next week, but only school hours, not forking out for before and after school club when I am not working Grin

But then you are adept at completely missing the point and I take my hat off to your endeavours, don't have a hat smiley so will just hand you a glass of something Gin
