Skegness is so bracing. Wasn't that the slogan? And since we are members of the EU currently, we have cleaned up our beaches and no longer have to paddle and swim in sewage. How long that will last is anyone's guess.

lljkk · 16/09/2018 20:00

British tourists spend £13 bn/yr in Spain (€14.6 bn).
Spain gets €67 bn/yr from tourists.

14.6 is 21.8% of €67.
21.8% is a lot, for sure, but its absence is probably not enough to destroy their tourist industry.

surferjet · 16/09/2018 20:02

Peregrina
We are Spain’s biggest customers by far.
Look it up if you don’t believe me.

If it wasn’t for the UK Spain would disappear, so I doubt they’ll give us any grief.

It's comments like this that give Leavers a bad name.

Fucking arrogant wankers.

Hazardswan · 16/09/2018 20:08

How arrogant to think that it's just British tourists who keep Spain's tourism afloat Hmm

Hazardswan · 16/09/2018 20:08

Lol cross post bear Grin

frumpety · 16/09/2018 20:10

Ah Skegness , don't knock it until you've tried it , not a bad little seaside place really , weather can be a bit inclement for those wanting a tan, but we all now know how very bad for us a tan is Smile

surferjet · 16/09/2018 20:11

It’s not arrogant it’s true.
It’s a fact.
And as you deal in facts I thought I’d give you one.
Spain would suffer if we stopped going there.

Bearbehind · 16/09/2018 20:12

I'm sick of them hazard

I witnessed a real life twat last night 'giving it large' about how fantastic we are and how much the EU need us more than we need them.

surfer is not alone in her arrogance.

It's simply astounding. Not least because they have not got a single shred of evidence to back up their assertions.

jasjas1973 · 16/09/2018 20:12

UK contributes about 10% to the Spanish Tourist sector of 119billion euros.
Moving forward, their target market is the Chinese and Middle East markets, neither known for their tolerance of heavy drinking.
Spain runs a highly competitive tourist industry, we wont stop going there, just less.

Stop reading the Sun and Express Surf.

Peregrina · 16/09/2018 20:13

I think lljkk has just given us an answer. Yes in the short term they will suffer, but the argument that they need us more than we need them doesn't wash.

I think aviation will be sorted out fairly early because we need to get food and medicines in and quickly. As for the rest, people will just have to suck up paying more because of the decline of the £, and paying for visas, and getting used to the reintroduction of roaming charges. But that's what you voted for.

Bearbehind · 16/09/2018 20:13

suffering and disappearing are worlds apart.

Everyone in the EU will 'suffer' from us leaving.

It's just we will 'suffer' the most.

And for what?

Anasnake · 16/09/2018 20:14

So as well as destroying our own country we're quite happy to take those of other countries with us too ?
You are horrendously naive Surfer.

Peregrina · 16/09/2018 20:16

I only went to Skeg once, and it rained solidly, so I don't have the best memories of it.

As for sewage, I was thinking of Rhyl beach in the 1950s which I knew very well, living in the area. The tide goes out a long way, below the then sewage outfalls. Nice, huh?

lljkk · 16/09/2018 20:17

UK relies on EU tourism, too (source = Wikipedia). So our €14.6 bn can be spent here, and the French-Germans-Belgians can go to Spain. Easy enough swap. Nobody has to suffer. :).

surferjet · 16/09/2018 20:18

I’m merely pointing out that EU countries rely on us for tourism - that is a fact.
I know you hate the fact that anyone relies on the pathetic UK, but I’m afraid the med countries do.

lljkk

Post Spains tourism chart. I would but I’m on my phone.

OP posts:
Anasnake · 16/09/2018 20:20

And we rely on them for tourism back - that is also a fact. What happens when they stop coming op ?

Bearbehind · 16/09/2018 20:21

Are you seriously saying that some EU countries simply can't survive without UK tourism surfer?

I know you are blinkered when it comes to Brexit but please tell me you don't honestly believe that.

Hazardswan · 16/09/2018 20:21

bear where was I when they were dishing out blind British aggrogance over the rest of the world? I lined up in the 'love an under dog' que twice....literally my rescue underdog has cost £££s in vets bills. That's British to me. This cocky arrogance...fuck it's pretty much straight up Americanism rebranded with some tea splashed down the front.

surferjet · 16/09/2018 20:21

I think Spain & Portugal would really suffer yes. No question.

OP posts:
surferjet · 16/09/2018 20:24

It’s not arrogance ffs it’s a fact!
We are Spain’s biggest customer when it comes to tourism.

OP posts:
Peregrina · 16/09/2018 20:24

You stated that 'Spain would disappear' when you have now been shown that it clearly won't. Although I think you would grant that the cheap and cheerful places which cater to the lager louts will suffer. I wonder how many of those establishments are being run by UK 'expatriates' (i.e. immigrants to Spain)?

jasjas1973 · 16/09/2018 20:26

Surfer, do you think all these uk tourists are going to be happy because you and your ilk have fucked up their holidays?

lljkk · 16/09/2018 20:29

Visit Britain website is great.
UK visitor stats in 2017, expenditure from residents of
France (£1.43 bn), Spain (1.06 bn), Italy (£840.4 mln) , Portugal (£206.6 mln), Greece (£140.8 mln) (no stats for Croatia).

That only adds up to about £3.5 bn. Pennies! Just 10 weeks of rides on that mendacious bus.
