@10degreestostarboard

we shouldn’t be blackmailed (by the eu) for the sake of ni

Could you please elaborate on this, how are we being blackmailed?

I'll ignore the fact we were told that 'they need us more than we need them' and 'we hold all the cards'

Mine's a cocoa as it's past my bedtime, don't let it stop you though.

Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder - I'll have a double, hic

10degreestostarboard · 11/09/2018 22:19

Stop howling at the moon...

Scotland and ni are expendable in the sense that if they choose the eu (over the rest of uk) and wish to stay they should be allowed to do so.

They have as much right to self determination as anyone else. I’m not talking about criminal thugs.

But my point stands - the majority live on the mainland and fundamentally their desire - as expressed in 2016 - should not be denied. Especially when the suspicion persists that cosmopolitan types living in London (and Brussels) are using these issues as cynical ‘negotation’ points.

But feel free to shut down discussion - you only want your echo chamber and you have the rest of mumsnet for that...

All together now ... Aoooooooooooo!

Cardinal

‘Scum’

Hmmm that goes beyond your usual kind words - I would hope mumsnet hq might take issue with that and your other examples of passive aggressive trolling

@10degreestostarboard

Can I ask again, how are we being blackmailed by the EU over NI?

bellinisurge · 11/09/2018 22:40

Anyone for a late night cup of tea?

Kenndodd

My view is that the eu wish to negotiate hard for various reasons not limited to but including: showing other eu states that leaving carries a definite cost and wishing to use the uk departure as an opportunity to relocate lucrative financial services from London to the eu.

For the eu I believe that ni is just another way by which they can exert pressure on the uk government to soften their stance and cave.

Nobody wants to see ni return to days of old and I don’t understand why the eu is seemingly blameless (on these threads at least) in stoking resentment.

So it is a form of blackmail because if we don’t back down they will twist the knife in wounds like ni in order to elicit the response they want from our side

They have been much more skilled at all this than we have but then we are the supplicant trying to get a deal. As others rightly point out we need them more than they need us at this stage. But that isn’t reason enough to abandon a Brexit with a clear mandate

CardinalSin · 11/09/2018 22:50

10 Shills - That would be standard shill modus operandum. Get someone banned for reacting to your disgusting comments.

Wouldn't really come as a surprise...

I’m confused. I am apparently part of the ‘metropolitan elite’ because I live in London.
But I am also benefit scrounging scum because I am an alcoholic currently in rehab although I did pay tax for 25 years while working as a mental health nurse, the stress of which played a large part in me becoming an alkie.
I will have a non alcoholic cocktail and dance along to never going to give EU up.

bellinisurge · 11/09/2018 22:52

But we are doing the Leaving, we are not being thrown out. How is it being mean if the partner leaving you wants to dictate terms?

10degreestostarboard · 11/09/2018 22:52

Sigh

Cardinal - you and I will clearly never agree, so let’s just not engage with one another.

bellinisurge · 11/09/2018 22:53

Taxi?

10degreestostarboard · 11/09/2018 22:57

Bellinsurge

It’s not mean - it’s business. The eu want us to give away more than we would like, just as in any negotiation. They are sensible to take that approach. Our problem is that we haven’t been playing the same game with sufficient skill.

I’m a Tory but if Brexit fails that failure will lay with this govt, not the eu. But then the suspicion persists that Westminster don’t want a Brexit and so have done their collective best to ‘throw the game’.

Brexit was never the easy path but I do believe it is the right path.

Smile - I really can’t win can I. Too few words and I am ‘disgusting’. Too many words and I am breaking the thread ground rules.

I wonder why you don’t get many leavers on mumsnet....

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 11/09/2018 23:04
