I've been reading Brexit threads and it's always the same people talking about how unhappy they are about Brexit.
I guess Brexit leave voters have no time to waste on forums.

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 23/08/2018 10:13

PMSL at the OP accusing others of being insulting then calling surfer aggressive!

Just proves she can't even be bothered to work out what side anyone is on and is just looking for a bun fight.

surferjet · 23/08/2018 10:26

I’m very well thank you Jason118 hope you are too. Smile
& hello woman11017 :-)

It was a genuine mistake Bear - tbf my post did look like a remainers, ( I know you’d love me on your side ) plus I’m not on here every day, so not every leaver knows me.
She’s fine by me.

Bearbehind · 23/08/2018 10:31

If it was a mistakes she'd have apologised, not just carried on then called you aggressive surfer

It just makes it clear the intention is to pick a fight- nothing more.

Nice to see you around though 😀

surferjet · 23/08/2018 10:38

I can’t answer for her Bear because I’ve never come across her before ( clearly! )
We don’t know each other at all.
Maybe she’s got a ‘tough guy’ image to protect & my flowers are secretly in the post? Grin Wink

Nice to see you too though Smile

Bearbehind · 23/08/2018 10:46

Maybe! Or maybe she is just a GF! 😂

woman11017 · 23/08/2018 11:07

Brew to all, as it's a bit early for brexit arms cocktails, is it? Wink I am so sick of the fighting, I suspect what we all want and need is not that dissimilar anyway. Peace breaking out would be nice. Smile Or a wee truce.

prettybird · 23/08/2018 11:10

Heaven forfend Shock, I'm agreeing with some of Surferjet's posts today! ShockGrinConfused

And some Flowers and/or Wine and/or Brew and/or Gin and/or Cake too because we can enjoy them too Wink

I'm making plum gin for my stockpile Wink

Kewqueue · 23/08/2018 11:23

The migrants who are hanging on to the bottom of lorries are not EU citizens anyway so not sure how Brexit is going to stop them coming into the country - if anything it makes it more likely!

Hazardswan · 23/08/2018 14:13

pretty everytime I read your posts I get jealous your in Scotland who voted remain, you have Indy ref to look forward to if all else fails and you have plum gin?! Grin

Oh and immigrants (aka human beings like you and me) are trying to head for Germany. UK is old news, we're still on list of places which are better than some others but word got out the streets aren't paved with gold. People most keen to get here are the peeps with family already settled.

borntobequiet · 23/08/2018 14:18

Some information about why migrants come to the U.K.:
fullfact.org/immigration/why-do-migrants-and-asylum-seekers-want-come-uk/
www.theguardian.com/world/2018/mar/09/we-want-to-work-refugees-tell-france-why-uk-is-so-attractive
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/immigration/11249577/Revealed-the-real-reasons-immigrants-come-to-the-UK.html
Keeping my sources balanced here, you see. But apparently it’s because they want to work...

TheElementsSong · 23/08/2018 14:27

The migrants who are hanging on to the bottom of lorries are not EU citizens anyway so not sure how Brexit is going to stop them coming into the country - if anything it makes it more likely!

That sounds suspiciously like logic, how very dare you! Grin

surferjet · 23/08/2018 15:52

I know they’re not EU citizens!
My point was, why don’t they disappear and work illegally in France? because that’s all they’ll do here. Some of them might want to go down the legal route, but what harm is coming to them in France? Why will they be safer here?
It wasn’t a brexit discussion.
But if we’re going to be the country you predict we’ll be after brexit ( totally useless ). Why will migrants still risk their lives to get here?
That doesn’t make sense to me.

& thanks for the drink! WineSmile

PineappleSunrise · 23/08/2018 16:10

Surfer, am I right in understanding that you want the UK to be a country that's so miserable even people fleeing war zones won't want to come here?

jasjas1973 · 23/08/2018 16:37

But I don’t understand why all the migrants in France risk their lives to get here?

6 million non french born migrants living in France, 400,000 illegals live around Paris alone.
6000 was the max number of migrants in the Jungle at Calais, so no, not ALL migrants in france want to come here.

SoloD · 23/08/2018 16:56

@Ihatemycar
You are always welcome to tell us about the benefits of Brexit. Just give us the real ones not the "£350m for the NHS" or the "EU accounts were never signed off " or the other lies which are so often peddled.

1tisILeClerc · 23/08/2018 17:25

Having spent an hour or so at a French port watching the Gendarmes chasing the 'hopeful immigrants' away, having got them off the roof of the lorries lining up to get on the ferry you have to wonder why the UK is so appealing. Working 'in the black' in France is tricky and paperwork to work legally takes a lot of time as has been noted. Unless they speak French the chance of work is minimal.

Kewqueue · 23/08/2018 17:30

Why will they be safer here?

It's not a question of being "safer". They are trying to maximise their chances of finding work by going somewhere they speak the language and have a family connections. If you had to start a new life and you had the choice of going somewhere where you didn't speak tha language or know anyone or you could go somewhere where you knew people who might help you and you understood the language which would you choose? And as jasjas pointed out, they aren't all trying to get to the UK at all so your perception is skewed.

surferjet · 23/08/2018 17:51

PineappleSunrise
They’re not fleeing a war zone - they’re fleeing France.

woman11017 · 23/08/2018 20:22

Many, sadly, are fleeing a warzone, surferjet. Britain did used to be a good bet for refugees, or a reasonable one, but not now. Looking back at press on this, in 2001, Britain offered much more welcome to refugees than now. Even in the last war Britain took very few Jewish refugees. My late MIL ( as a 2 year old toddler and with her 24 year old mother was one). They were stranded mid Nazi rise in France for 2 years and made it to Israel. Later she came to England, and adored this country. And was a very loyal tory. France was not such a good bet for Jews either then. Sad

hopeful immigrants If it hadn't been for my MIL's mum's tenacity I wouldn't have my gorgeous kids.

MotherofPearl · 23/08/2018 20:48

Well said Woman. I want to be part of a society that welcomes refugees. I feel that it's something to be proud of, not something to be curtailed.

MotherofPearl · 23/08/2018 20:50

Though I should have said, it also needs proper infrastructure, resources and support to be put in place.

Frequency · 23/08/2018 20:57

Can we start a sweepstakes on when Leavers will admit it's a shitstorm?

Immediately after the vote we heard them bleat, 'of course there's no plan, we weren't in charge. You were, you should have made a plan. Don't worry, once we make a plan, t'will be 'brill.'

Later, when the £ tanked and the economic side effects were felt, they told us, 'we haven't left yet. Don't worry, once we leave t'will be 'brill.'

Now we have the distinct prospect of No Deal (see above for the average Leaver response to No Plan) we're hearing, 'Well, it will take time. We always knew this would happen, but don't worry, once the initial disastrous effects have waned, t'will be 'brill.'

Are they ever going to admit the entire thing from start to finish is an utter shitstorm?

TheElementsSong · 23/08/2018 21:00

Are they ever going to admit the entire thing from start to finish is an utter shitstorm?

Not to worry, at some stage the narrative will shift to "We always intended it to be an utter shitstorm because somethingBlitzSpirit."

MotherofPearl · 23/08/2018 21:03

I think they will eventually be forced to admit that it is a shitstorm, but will of course never take any responsibility.

They'll blame the supposedly recalcitrant EU.

They'll blame TM for not negotiating hard enough.

They'll blame us Remoaners for our realism negativity.

But they will never, ever admit that they were wrong.

surferjet · 23/08/2018 21:04

Genuine refugees are a different story.
The ones in France are already in a place of safety, they’re just chancers trying to get into the UK because we’re a soft touch.
I’d send them straight back to where they came from. ( Europe )
