Do you think street parties, riots, candlelit vigils, what?

'hysterical' Bingo
Point for me prettybirdGrin

Echo2 · 21/08/2018 08:43

The UK will sink into the sea never to be seen again.

Figmentofmyimagination · 21/08/2018 08:43

Lots of extraordinarily low offers to buy your house (on referendum day, we had an offer at 50% market value. The estate agent said this was happening all over. We told the offerors to f**k off. Might not be quite so straightforward in March 2019).

And lots of buying up of distressed but fundamentally sound businesses by brexiteers with overseas assets.

cloudtree · 21/08/2018 08:46

I really hope we don't lose control of the currency. Think 'The Mandibles' by (ironically, pro brexit) Lionel shriver. (Venezuela is a real life example, but shriver's account is more compelling because it takes place in our closest ideological bedfellow, the United States.

I read the Mandibles last summer. Worth a read for those burying their heads in the sand.

bellinisurge · 21/08/2018 08:46

I'm a Remainer. I think a lot of hoo ha in the media on the day which won't reflect the most people's actual experience of the day. And we won't feel the negative effects immediately so that gives BeLeavers time to witter in about Project Fear and to "get in front of the narrative ". Which may go as far as blaming Remainer fifth columnists for causing all the inevitable shit that will happen.
Can't wait for the "technical notices" on Thursday Confused

Figmentofmyimagination · 21/08/2018 08:47

A cap-in-hand visit to the IMF?

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 08:49

Perhaps the New PM at that time will call a national holiday or make the Monday a public holiday so we can all have a good long weekend

Figmentofmyimagination · 21/08/2018 08:52

rossac you mean like the long holiday weekend the Venezuelan PM just mandated so that he could knock 4 zeros off the currency?

Helmetbymidnight · 21/08/2018 08:54

Rosstac has a theory that only mc people people will be negatively affected by Brexit. Grin

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 08:56

Figmentofmyimagination No more of happy for some sad for others sort of time, I think as you know Venezuela is a different country to us in many respects

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 08:57

And if we have a days holiday just think of the money people will be spending in the economy, eating, drinking, shopping etc

RageAgainstTheTagine · 21/08/2018 08:57

I will look forward to re-reading these hilarious threads in the not to distant future, when all is perfectly well with the UK.

But by all means, hide away in your bunkers, eating spam. I'll be fine. You'll be fine.

Helmetbymidnight · 21/08/2018 09:00

Surely what will happen is what leavers want to happen: We take back control.
If there aren’t parties and Independence Day celebrations I will be very disappointed.

Helmetbymidnight · 21/08/2018 09:01

I like reading back the threads fro two years ago - brexiteers were so excited then! - they’d punched the elites in the face! It was hilarious.

prettybird · 21/08/2018 09:02

The UK may well be fine if it gets BINO.

The Brexiters will be mightily pissed off though

virtuousfantine · 21/08/2018 09:05

Sweet fuck all. People will go to work, come home, eat dinner and go to bed as normal. Some idiots will use it as an excuse to be hysterical. It's brexit, not the end of bloody days and I say that as a remainer

^^ This.

Helmetbymidnight · 21/08/2018 09:08

So no celebrations then? They smash up forty years of trade agreements covering every aspect of our lives and no ones having a freedom party?

Sad.

KennDodd · 21/08/2018 09:09

I wonder if Parliament Square will be closed off. I expect we'll see Leavers flag waving there and Remainers there calling for a last minute reprieve. I expect all police leave will be cancelled and think we'll see some low level violence on the day. I also expect a spike in hate crime from people out 'celebrating'. No stop news coverage both in the UK and as our flag is lowered and removed in Brussels.

It will be absolutely fine. The world will not end, believe it or not. And if there is no deal we will trade under WTO rules, like the rest of the world shock horror. They money makers and businessmen will aleays find ways to make money. Brexit will bring new but ditferent opportunities. There might be short term pain but in the long term it’s the right decision - the EU is a shit show and a sinking ship. Better out.

bellinisurge · 21/08/2018 09:11

I hope those twats that sent @Polish vermin" messages to children are already in jail. Otherwise, more if that kind of shit ..

KennDodd · 21/08/2018 09:15

And if there is no deal we will trade under WTO rules

We don't have the infrastructure to manage TWO and it rips up the GFA threatening the peace in NI

The bma are certainly worried- not for day one but after. Good to see Farage tell them to shut up though, eh! He knows better than anyone- he should be knighted!

prettybird · 21/08/2018 09:18

And if there is no deal we will trade under WTO rules, like the rest of the world shock horror.

There is no other country in the world that trades purely under WTO rules. Confused. Not even North Korea Hmm Mauritania used to be the exception - but even it now has a trade deal.

And WTO terms don't cover services Sad

But I suppose this is just another illustration of how special and unique the UK is. Hmm

missmoon · 21/08/2018 09:21

There will be a massive run on the pound (although possibly that will happen before Brexit day), followed by capital controls. Depending on whether there is an emergency "deal", flights may or may not take off, and there will be food shortages as people stockpile and trade grinds to a halt due to long customs / sanitary checks delays. Nobody will dare to celebrate as their friends and neighbours will just be too pissed off at them due to the above. Farrage etc. will be watching from their safe haven in another country.
