Do you think street parties, riots, candlelit vigils, what?

We'll all carry on as normal. Same as we did when we joined

You understand that undoing 40 years of ties over food, aviation, technology, security, transport, etc is a little tricky? Or don't you accept that?

Helmetbymidnight · 21/08/2018 12:02

Rosstac, that's odd, because before you were quite delighted that there might be economic problems after brexit because you were certain it would only hit the mc and the wc wouldn't be affected.

Havanananana · 21/08/2018 12:10

We'll all carry on as normal. Same as we did when we joined

The UK is ripping up 750 Agreements and Treaties, leaving the world's largest economic bloc (which takes half of the UK's exports and supplies half of the UK's food) and unravelling the economic, diplomatic and social ties that have been built up over the last 40 years - and yet some people on MN believe that nothing will change?

Apart from the lack of logic behind this thinking, why is the UK wasting billions of pounds and millions of hours of manpower leaving the EU if nothing will change? There are other, arguably more pressing problems that these resources could be working on - e.g. healthcare crisis, education crisis, mental health crisis, housing crisis, prisons crisis, crumbling roads and railways, regional inequality, financial inequality etc.

Longtalljosie · 21/08/2018 12:14

Nothing on the day itself, because I think a transition deal (not an ideal one from our perspective) will be bashed out. Then the transition will go on for blinking ever. The result of which is we will slowly shrink as an economy and plateau at a less successful level.

Paddington68 · 21/08/2018 12:20

Planes crashing, shops looted, marching on parliament, general civil unrest, banking systems going offline, stock market crash, hospitals in meltdown, no food, no drugs, no hope. Boris, Gove, Rees-Morgan on helicopters leaving the country. Farage on Question Time finally revealing he is indeed the Anti-Christ.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 21/08/2018 12:54

We will Brexit and nothing will happen on the day.

It will all go to shit afterwards.

The Tories will then boot out TM and stick Boris in No 10.

Just hold that in your mind for a moment....Boris in No 10 and Trump in the White House.

Food quality will fall as we will no longer have to adhere to the good standard of EU quality. US quality which is far inferior will be order if the day.

Enjoy.

jasjas1973 · 21/08/2018 13:02

Boris, Gove, Rees-Mogg) on helicopters leaving the country

At last a Brexit Dividend.

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 13:37

Helmetbymidnight I am answering the op question, I haven’t got a crystal ball or a time machine to see way in to the future like all you remainers, who knows what will happen between now and March, it’s a bit like threatening to cut your legs off in 6 months time and people working out what will happen, how will they cope, have they and bandages and painkillers, it would be stupid if they done it, etc, they might do it they might just take one leg off, or as I expect no legs at all, BINO

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 13:44

Helmetbymidnight Sorry forgot to add yes you are right I hope it’s hits the MC hard, some of the comments on here towards people that for what ever reason voted to leave, without knowing their reasons have been atrocious, Blame the government they could stop it and they shouldn’t have started it, they were given an answer they could have ignored it, if your young child asked for a real gun for Xmas you would still buy it for him with live bullets because that’s what they want or would you knowing better say no and explain why, won’t stop them wanting one will it

jasjas1973 · 21/08/2018 13:55

Sorry forgot to add yes you are right I hope it’s hits the MC hard

...but it wont, they might have to shop at Tesco instead of Waitrose and forgo 2 weeks skiing for 1 week but it wont hit drastically at all.

It'll be the poor who will suffer as always and if that includes you...good.

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 14:01

jasjas1973 And there we go again with the comments, yes I will not miss my weekly shopping at Waitrose ( pay more for exactly the same item somewhere else) or my skiing trip your right, the poor as you call them, will get by like they always have done

bellinisurge · 21/08/2018 14:10

The uk is not divided into "people who shop at Waitrose " and "the poor".
For fuck's sake.

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 14:12

bellinisurge It would seem like it

Figmentofmyimagination · 21/08/2018 14:12

There bloody ought to be street parties. That would also be in line with the "whole back to the 50s" tenor of Brexit.

After all this is supposed to be a "good thing" that people wanted and we should celebrate, or at the very least, those constituencies that voted in favour of this should have a big party. Perhaps a giant party bus driving through the Brexitlands on 29 March 2019 is what is needed, maybe with some inflatable Boris Johnsons etc.

Seniorschoolmum · 21/08/2018 14:19

Probably nothing in most of the country. There’ll be protests in London from one side or the other - or both.

Everyone will carry on as normal because the mortgage still has to be paid, until something impacts them.

If there are big problems from day 1, with flights etc the grumbling will start quickly, or it’ll take a while for things to go in short supply. Most people won’t react until it directly affects their lives.

Helmetbymidnight · 21/08/2018 14:20

We've moved on from 'taking back control'. Latest meaningless slogan to repeat is 'I haven't got a crystal ball'

Unbelievable. You untie all those agreements without having anything in place then there will be big consequences. Shock! You don't actually need to be a fortune teller to work this out. Most normal people can understand cause and effect.

Rosstac, you previously argued that only the MC would be affected by Brexit. It was stupid then and still is. Food shortages, medical shortages will affect poorer people worse. Again, you don't need a crystal ball to understand that. You don't need to be an expert. This is basic.

I agree with you though that Brexit is like a kid wanting a gun with live bullets for Christmas. Except you're not a kid. Take some responsibility for your opinions.

BakedBeans47 · 21/08/2018 14:23

Other than constant rolling news of fuck all, nothing much on the day

Amaaboutthis · 21/08/2018 14:24

Absolutely nothing I expect.

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 14:34

Helmetbymidnight There we go again putting words into my mouth, I said it will be the MC who will be hit harder, the less well off in their social housing etc, they will not be worried about losing their holidays or buying their new car, or worrying about paying their mortgage or private schooling, or weekends away, or their trip to Waitrose
And most of use will wait and see rather than getting worked up by something that might not happen, what ever owning your vote means, then I own, of course it’s not the governments fault how could of and can stop it at anytime if THEY feel it’s will be bad for the U.K. why do I have to have anything in place I don’t control the government

prettybird · 21/08/2018 15:09

I was working in telecoms over the millennium. I can assure you that if my company - and all the other telecoms companies - hadn't put in a shed load of work in advance of the millennium then everyone's landlines and mobiles would've stopped working.

Issues were avoided by anticipating the predictable problem and putting in the necessary work.

Unless the UK Government puts in a shed load of work to avoid a full No Deal scenario, then there are many more things than just phones that will stop working - for example planes not being allowed to fly (and don't say "They could just fly, they don't need the Open Skies agreement" - quite apart from all the necessary safety agreements, the insurance companies wouldn't let it happen as they wouldn't cover the planes and their passengers); ....and going back to telecoms, international calls/global roaming may be impossible Shock (Friend from my old company is now a freelance lawyer working on behalf of a number of telcos and other friends on the regulatory side are on various working parties and say the government is woefully under-prepared and keep asking the telcos "needs" to be done and then ignoring them Hmm) Sad

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 21/08/2018 15:13

Yep Hubby had shedloads of overtime in the three years building up to the Millenium and work had gone on before that as well.

Nothing happened at the Millenium because we were well prepared. All the work had been done unlike this issue.

Crashing out of Brexit with no deal is a disaster. We should all be pushing our MPs to sort this out,

jasjas1973 · 21/08/2018 15:16

The uk is not divided into "people who shop at Waitrose " and "the poor".
For fuck's sake

For Fucks Sake???? What you on about?

Any caricature of the middle classes can include "Shops at Waitrose" and what else do you call people who have fcuk all?
Its the irony of Brexit, the very people who swung the vote will in almost any scenario, deal or no deal, will be worse off as the economy grows at a slower rate and the country has less money to spend on Benefit increases, which under the Conservatives are the first things they cut or freeze.

Rosstac

You voted for Brexit, own it and stop blaming others for your decision.

Needsleepneedsleep · 21/08/2018 15:22

Whatever happens, the botton line is that the current Government simply don't care as it won't directly impact their cosy lives.

prettybird · 21/08/2018 15:33

I don't think I've ever shopped in Waitrose - although there are three in Glasgow that I know of. I do most of my shopping in Lidl, with top-ups in Sainsbury's/Tesco (depending on which one I have better vouchers for).

I have shopped in Booth's when I was staying in Preston. Does that count Wink

IdahoJones · 21/08/2018 15:47

it would be stupid if they done it

Yes, it would rather, Rosstac.
