Do you think street parties, riots, candlelit vigils, what?

As much as people like you will be to blame if things go badly, it is true that the ultimate responsibility lies with the Government of the day as we live in a representative democracy.
That doesn't absolve you of responsibility though.

Just as if remain had won and the EU had dragged the UK to its doom, i would have had to have accepted my part in that.

Anyhow, i think they ll be an extension to the negotiations or a hash up of a deal will be done, with the next 2 years of implementation to come to an actual agreement.

Therefore nothing will change next year

IdahoJones · 21/08/2018 17:36

Not everyone turns out to vote, for all sorts of reasons. Lack of meaningful choice is a big one.

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 17:54

bellinisurge It’s no wonder this country is the way it is when people let the government get off free of its responsibility to its people its ment to represent, they must love the fact that the countries divided and the government is not responsible

midgesforever · 21/08/2018 17:55

bellini I think that the two year period will be pushed back or some other fudged deal will be created.
But I could well be wrong, I never thought the UK would be mutton headed enough to vote leave in the first place!

bellinisurge · 21/08/2018 17:57

It was a referendum not a GE. Direct democracy not representative democracy. What on earth did you think was going to happen if you voted Leave?
The voters not the Government are to blame in the first instance.
You can't pass the buck and blame someone else if what you voted for in a referendum is shit.
You just can't.

prettybird · 21/08/2018 18:01

If people don't vote though, then they can't complain about the government or choices they get. At least those who voted in the Referendum - whether Leave or Remain - actually bothered to vote even if they were misled

However, I fully agree that our FPTP system for Westmimster leaves a lot to be desired and positively encourages apathy in "safe" seats, with the knowledge that it is only those in marginal seats who have a meaningful vote Sad

At least the d'Hondt system (used in a hybrid form in the Scottish Parliament and in the EU Parliament Wink) is more democratic as it reflects proportionally the parties people voted for.

bellinisurge · 21/08/2018 18:03

If BeLeavers are now spinning the yarn that it's all the government's fault, they are a bigger shower of [adjust as you see fit], than first thought.
If you voted Leave, this is on you.

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 18:07

bellinisurge so if you were a driver of a bus and you asked if you want to go left or right hoping the majority would say right, knowing that left would send you over a cliff edge, you would drive off the cliff because the people voted for it, you surprise me,

bellinisurge · 21/08/2018 18:08

I wouldn't put the bus anywhere near a cliff edge because it wouldn't arise. I wouldn't give people the option in the first place.

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 18:10

bellinisurge So if a brain surgeon asked me how to do an operation, he would carry on with what I say even thou I haven’t any experience but have read up on it, really

bellinisurge · 21/08/2018 18:11

@Rosstac - you had a choice at the referendum. You can read same as me. If you voted Leave this is on you. It just is. If you needed Nanny to hold your hand, you shouldn't have voted.

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 18:12

bellinisurge there you are why did the government put the bus near a cliff edge ? I didn’t drive it there.

Rosstac · 21/08/2018 18:14

Yet again I agree with you what experience has the general population got to make a decision like this, why give them the vote ?

TheElementsSong · 21/08/2018 18:15

If we were on track for sunshine, rainbows and untold wealth, somehow I rather doubt that Leave voters would be going "Ooh, nothing to do with me - we should place all our gratitude on the government!" Hmm

bellinisurge · 21/08/2018 18:16

It was a referendum which the government of the day promised it would give. If anyone didn't actually want to Leave they should have voted accordingly. This is nothing to do with bus drivers or brain surgery. This was a referendum.
If you didn't want this shit, you should've voted Remain.
It's happening because people were given the chance to vote on it and not enough people told them government to fuck off by voting Remain. Or they saw that DC was a Remainer and stupidly thought that a vote for Remain was a vote for him.

Vicky1990 · 21/08/2018 18:19

What will happen is we will have our independence back from the fat cat money wasting jumped up extra layers of overpaid talking shop twats.
Obviously they will try to make things as awkward as possible to deter others from leaving the German and French dominated cabal.
Perhaps they should be reminded that if it wasn't for us what would be left of them would have been speaking German for a long time now.
Perhaps reminded twice in fact.

bellinisurge · 21/08/2018 18:24

@Vicky1990 - you are hilarious!

Ta1kinpeace · 21/08/2018 18:24

So what difference do you expect it to make in your day to day life?

Heremeout · 21/08/2018 18:26

Nothing will happen on the day. We will leave and that will be it.
Some may celebrate, some may be sad.
We will survive! We always do!

Ta1kinpeace · 21/08/2018 18:29

So you are presuming that a deal with the EU that includes a bigly transition period will be reached ?

prettybird · 21/08/2018 18:30

I actually agree with you Rosstac - it is a choice that was always too complex for a simple referendum - especially one which had no detail attached to it (at least in Scotland, the government produced a 470 page White Paper well in advance of the Indyref of its vision for the future even if many disagreed with the detail ) . It was a grave miscalculation by Cameron to try to put sticking plaster on to fix a rift within the Conservative Party. (He probably assumed he wouldn't get an overall majority in the 2015 GE and that the LibDems would save him from having to follow through on the Conservative Party commitment).

However the Referendum did go ahead. You now need to own the consequences of the result - or admit that you made a mistake and should have voted Remain (or not voted because you didn't know enough) because it is too difficult. That requires courage.

TheClitterati · 21/08/2018 18:35

I shall wear black.

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 21/08/2018 18:37

If things arent sorted it wouldnt surprise me if theres a terrorist attack. Having potential difficulty getting supplies and needing europe etc to help us.

SheSparkles · 21/08/2018 18:46

I think on brexit day there will be a lot of leave voters regretting their decision

PestymcPestFace · 21/08/2018 19:02

The UK is not a direct democracy, all referendums here are advisory.
