Brexit

OK, lets put it this way, what do we want done?

Its all going so badly and everyone is worried, but what can be done?

Do we want another referendum and the whole Brexit thing aborted? Do we want another leader doing something different? Do we think Teresa May is doing everything that can be done?

I say "do we think" but to be honest, I don't think anything either way of Teresa May, I don't know what to think.

I don't know what could make things better at this stage

Jozxyqk Apologies.

This happened on another Brexit thread. We are now post irony, beyond sarcasm and well and truly through the looking glass.

I've typed that democracy response so many times I do it automatically. And posters keep on saying it.

I'm off to look for my sense of humour I can't find it due to all the stockpiled toilet paper and tea bags.....

KennDodd · 01/08/2018 23:22

I think this threat I've heard from leave voters that if Brexit doesn't happen they'll never vote again is another good reason for cancelling the whole thing. I really hope they don't ever vote again after this fucking mess they've created.

LoveInTokyo · 01/08/2018 23:25

Amen to that!!

Heratnumber7 · 01/08/2018 23:33

I meant let's bring the population back together. There's so much ill feeling over Brexit. People don't like admitting which way they voted. I know friends who have fallen out because they each voted differently.

We need the deed to be done, and then for everyone to work together to make it a success, rather than deliberately sabotaging it.

LoveInTokyo · 01/08/2018 23:38

So how do we make it a success?

How do we resolve the Irish border issue and prevent the economy from tanking, both of which need to happen if Brexit is to be anything even vaguely resembling “a success”?

I’ll give you a clue, it’s called remaining in the single market and customs union.

MousseMoose no problem. I'm well & truly fed up with the entire mess of it all too. I truly would not have credited how utterly incompetent this government have turned out to be, in this regard. I'm not a Tory supporter & never have been, but I'm thoroughly disillusioned with Labour & the Lib Dems at present, too. It's utterly depressing.

Francine, are you even old enough to vote? Because your mental age seems to be about 9.

FrancinePefko42 · 02/08/2018 00:07

Hurtful

Nothing Clairetree1. Nothing will make things better at this stage.

The Government/MPs should put the National Interest above party and personal interest and withdraw article 50.

A People’s Vote on the terms of a final deal bothers me because in spite of extensive coverage of the realities and complexities of Brexit, there are nightly vox pops of people saying “I’m sick of it now tbh, we should just get out”. What if there is no clear majority for any of the options offered?

This whole thing should never have been done as an opinion poll (the public can barely be trusted to vote for the right people on Strictly or XFactor far less decisions which affect every facet of life), we’re a Parliamentary Democracy & the Government have a duty to not purposefully lead us into economic and social decline.

Wise words, Member, wise words. The "public" should stick to watching Love Island and leave the decision making to us!

Moussemoose · 02/08/2018 00:24

FrancinePefko42 · 02/08/2018 00:27

vote for the right people
Only some of us should have a say on who the "right people" are. The average Love Island viewer doesn't have a Scooby Fuckin Doo who the right people are. It behooves us to tell them - or better yet, ensure they never get to vote again in anything.

FrancinePefko42 what do you want done?
Either a commitment never to have a Referendum (or election) ever again OR some kind of eligibility criteria for who should be allowed to vote. It can ONLY be people who agree with us!!!

Jamiem80 · 02/08/2018 00:32

Simple call the EU's bluff ask them for our share of their assets easily 35 billion. Then tell them that we're fine with everyone of their threats. We will get medicines elsewhere, our airlines wont fly over Europe but then neither will european airlines be able to fly over uk airspace, bit of a problem if you want to fly to the USA. Then lets tell them that any tariffs will be matched.

Jamiem80 · 02/08/2018 00:35

Just read a the love island post! I think iys meant to be against brexit but every single love island watcher i know voted to stay!

RedNed · 02/08/2018 00:40

Jamiem80 it's not about flying over the UK, it's foreign register planes landing in the UK and UK registered
planes landing outside the UK 🙄

Member · 02/08/2018 00:44

I’m not sure if you perceive my post to be patronising in tone @Francine and are being facetious?

well, there are no other sources of some medicine, and the tariffs will matter to us, not to them, also, the airplane thing is nothing to do with EU airspace, we can't fly ANYWHERE as all the governments in the world who allow us to take off and land in their countries only accept us as part of the EU aviation safety agreement, which we will no longer be part of and we are nowhere near being able to set up our own.

The civil aviation authority needs to buy and adapt premises, set up and police safety procedures, recruit and train thousands of staff, persuade around 25 separate governments to accept them as valid, then PROOVE they are safe through international inspections.

Then british planes will be allowed to fly.

It is nothing what so ever to do with EU airspace, and its not a case of you need to let us fly through your airspace, or you can't fly through ours.

we will not be able to fly anywhere, but EU planes will still be able to fly everywhere, so we are really not in a position to "call their bluff" as it is nothing to them, and everything to us.

Much like every other part of the "negotiations" really. We don't have any of the power at all. we can't call anyones bluff. They can call ours a thousand times over

Some german officials seem to be even hoping UK airspace will be shut down, as a lesson to anyone else thinking of exiting the EU.

also, we won't have any satnav

unless we are able to design, build and launch a satnav satellite in the next 8 months.

These things normally take 5+ years

do we even have launch facilities in the UK? not sure we do

OP posts:
Clairetree1 · 02/08/2018 00:50

so without access to sat nav and any other satellite tracking and monitoring device, can modern British planes fly anyway?

or do we have to source older ones from somewhere?

OP posts:
Clairetree1 · 02/08/2018 00:51

One of my neighbours is a pilot who is not happy either that his planes, not he himself could fly in those circumstances
