Its all going so badly and everyone is worried, but what can be done?

Do we want another referendum and the whole Brexit thing aborted? Do we want another leader doing something different? Do we think Teresa May is doing everything that can be done?

I say "do we think" but to be honest, I don't think anything either way of Teresa May, I don't know what to think.

I don't know what could make things better at this stage

Right Francine what ARE you still doing here then? Go back to the Chans.

Lottapianos · 02/08/2018 09:57

Glad we're all amusing you so much Francine Hmm

Ah, it’s become clearer

surferjet · 02/08/2018 10:07

Thing is LoveInTokyo - if the vast majority of us now want to remain, why aren’t 30 million people taking to the streets & rioting?
It’s not enough that 100,000 middle aged remainers go on a nice stroll through London every now & then waving EU flags, the government just take no notice, 10 million angry people shouting might make a difference - but that’s just not happening is it.
Probably because not enough people give a fuck.

Clairetree1 · 02/08/2018 10:14

Blame your remain campaigners who did such a shite job.

so leavers are blaming the entire situation on the remain campaigners not convincing them?

Why didn't they look into the issues for themselves?

that smacks of an abusive husband hitting his wife then bleating "now look what you made me do"

OP posts:
surferjet · 02/08/2018 10:19

What are you on about?

I’m not blaming anyone - I’m telling remainers to channel their anger more appropriately. Ie: blame the Remain campaign for being completely unconvincing.

bellinisurge · 02/08/2018 10:26

I blame anyone who voted Leave for this.
I keep it to myself (except on here Grin) because I know a lot of people who voted leave and the area I live in went for Leave.
Not interested in what I've seen called gaslighting arguments that Remain should've argued "better".
If you voted Leave this is all on you.
I'm taking practical steps to minimise adverse effects in my family.

LoveInTokyo · 02/08/2018 10:26

Well firstly, most people are too civilised to "riot".

Secondly, because for most people, going on any kind of organised march involves expensive travel to another part of the country and potentially needing to organise childcare and time off work. And if you're pregnant or disabled in any way, forget it.

Thirdly, because most people - even the ones who would like to remain - don't fully understand the consequences of a no deal Brexit. They would vote remain tomorrow if they could because they believe that remaining is the right thing to do, but they don't yet know quite how bad things are going to get if we leave with no deal, and they are hoping that the government will do a deal which will enable them to carry on with their lives as normal.

Fourthly, because when did the government EVER take any notice of peaceful protesters? More than a million people marched over Iraq, and what difference did it make? Fuck all.

HTH.

bellinisurge · 02/08/2018 10:33

No one is rioting now. Hopefully, the food distribution issues will be minimised and no one will be actually hungry enough to be pissed off and riot. What a thing to hope for.

surferjet · 02/08/2018 10:33

Why bother with all the petitions & protests over Brexit then? Because I agree with you, they’ll change nothing.

The only protest I know of that worked was the poll tax riots. & that only worked because everyone in the country knew the poll tax was disastrous and got very angry about it.

PestymcPestFace · 02/08/2018 10:35

I'd like the government to communicate to the people truthfully about a no deal situation.

I'd like the government to communicate with businesses about a no deal situation without the cover of non disclosure agreements.

I'd like our government to be as transparent as the EU.

I'd like not to be disappointed.

Part of me would like Boris' head on a spike outside the Tower (this is the irrational part).

bellinisurge · 02/08/2018 10:40

So @surferjet , that's how you deal with this? Rioting and looting? That's what we should pin our hopes on?
Incidentally, because I am old enough to have been liable to pay this tax, the thing that stopped the poll tax and brought down Thatcher was the Tory party. Not riots.

KennDodd · 02/08/2018 10:49

Here you go, here's a march we could all go on.

As for 10 million angry people shouting might make a difference - but that’s just not happening is it. I fear we may see that after the Tories through the economy of a cliff in a hard Brexit. Still, JRM might make a fortune out of it from the office he moved to Dublin.

I think one of the 'bonuses' that the Tory press have been spouting about Brexit is that we can bring back the death penalty.

surferjet · 02/08/2018 10:54

bellinisurge you need passion to change things yes. The Remain protests are all a bit meh. How do you think women got the vote?

I’d like to see some of you chain yourselves to railings over Brexit, but it’s so much easier being Che Guevara from the comfort of your sofa.

LoveInTokyo · 02/08/2018 10:58

If I chained myself to railings over Brexit I would probably end up getting arrested and could lose my job over it.

bellinisurge · 02/08/2018 10:59

@surferjet . It's not a fucking game.

FridayThirteenth · 02/08/2018 11:01

@surferjet you are talking crap, are you honestly saying most people want to leave as quickly as possible without a deal and all that implies?

Vast majority think TM is doing a terrible job of negotiating and most people think Brexit will be bad for them.

I'm sure a big chunk think 'it could have been good BUT...' however that doesn't really matter.

We are where we are. I don't actually care how people voted, we all have a stake in what happens from now on in and it shows your utter ignorance to say 'just get on with it and get out asap' without any clear idea of how this will be achieved.

There is a vast difference between people being 'happy to get on with it' with a negotiated deal and 'happy to get on with it' with no deal and all that entails.

All we have at the moment is a black hole as we don't know what's going to happen, and the longer that goes on the more that will damage your cause as people fill the hole with their own fears and scenarios. That's not their fault, it's the fault of the government who have given us no specifics on what is going to happen other than crappy soundbites. Businesses and individuals can't continue to plan for much longer without SOME idea of what the terms are going to be, surely you can understand that?

This looking backwards of 'blame the campaign' is so bloody stupid. I have no less of a right to campaign and agitate for the future of this country than you do.

LoveInTokyo · 02/08/2018 11:06

Surfer doesn't agree. Surfer thinks that Channel 4 should be taken off air for not being sufficiently pro Brexit. She is an authoritarian.

bellinisurge · 02/08/2018 11:10

@surferjet if you think the problem is with people not resisting physically enough and therefore they don't mean it, you need to have a serious word with yourself.

falcon5 · 02/08/2018 11:11

@bellinisurge Yes. Well I blame myself too (leave vote). However... we need more people, a lot more, who voted leave for whatever reason but didn't vote for this absolute shambles to start sticking their heads out and saying you know what this is a bloody disaster I change my mind. And it's pretty hard to stand up and do that if you feel everyone who voted remain thinks you're an irredeemable twat basically. It's like everyone has got defined by one action on one day and I think we really need to actually embrace the idea of change and evolution... And that's only going to happen if people feel welcome to change their minds.

falcon5 · 02/08/2018 11:11

And sorry.. I've said bellinisurge just because I wanted to get your attention but it's a much more general.comment...

falcon5 · 02/08/2018 11:14

Hmm.. And having said this I wonder if some of the purpose of some posters isn't actually in order to goad others into making "leaver" comments in order to try and keep people in entrenched positions.

bellinisurge · 02/08/2018 11:14

I know it's hard to admit you were wrong but given that all Remain voters are accused of being middle class snowflakes, may I take this opportunity to say " (wo)man up and sort this shit out that you have caused".

LoveInTokyo · 02/08/2018 11:15

However... we need more people, a lot more, who voted leave for whatever reason but didn't vote for this absolute shambles to start sticking their heads out and saying you know what this is a bloody disaster I change my mind.

Thank you. I don't think everyone who voted leave is an idiot. But I do think people like surferjet and Francine are idiots, as is anyone who is saying we should leave with no deal.

We desperately need ordinary leave voters like you who don't actually want the country to be harmed by this to stick their heads above the parapet.
