Brexit

OK, lets put it this way, what do we want done?

Its all going so badly and everyone is worried, but what can be done?

Do we want another referendum and the whole Brexit thing aborted? Do we want another leader doing something different? Do we think Teresa May is doing everything that can be done?

I say "do we think" but to be honest, I don't think anything either way of Teresa May, I don't know what to think.

I don't know what could make things better at this stage

lessons:

-don't have referenda, this is the first that voted 'change' and there was no plan. (lucky escape, Scotland...)

  • certainly don't have advisory referenda, they are pointless. It was not stressed so too many didn't know it could have been ignored.

the EEC was a great idea. Fortunately we didn't go into the euro, as it seems there actually isn't a way out of what the EEC has become. We don't entirely know what we want, they won't change anything or accept that 'one size fits all' does not work and basically we are stuck in this bad marriage because the alternative turns out to be worse.

and if you want to blame anyone - it is Cameron who played games, stuffed up and then ran off singing.

LoveInTokyo · 02/08/2018 11:17

And having said this I wonder if some of the purpose of some posters isn't actually in order to goad others into making "leaver" comments in order to try and keep people in entrenched positions.

I think that is exactly the purpose of some posters.

Ihatemycar · 02/08/2018 11:20

@Moussemoose wow I guess you count yourself among the uneducated. Better still pig ignorant.
No wonder we are in a mess...

Peregrina · 02/08/2018 11:23

It's all very well saying that 'we don't like what the EEC has become'. Perhaps if we had played a fuller part we could have influenced its direction more? Instead it's been whine, whine, whine for special deals, with Brexit being the special deal to encompass the lot - we want to cherry pick the bits which suit us, but not pay, Finally, we are having our bluff called.

Ihatemycar · 02/08/2018 11:24

@LoveInTokyo look in YouTube what Cameron said Brexit was.
Leave means leave everything and we understood that.
Maybe you didn't but 17.4 million people did.
Can't wait to be free of the EU. No regrets at all. Just sick of people wanting to stay in the EU.

surferjet · 02/08/2018 11:25

It wouldn’t be hard to admit I was wrong if I actually thought I was wrong - but I don’t.
I’m still happy I voted leave & will never change my mind on that.
Stop trying to convince people they voted the wrong way, it’s called control & isn’t fooling anyone.

Ihatemycar · 02/08/2018 11:28

@Blushah what an ignorant thing to say. Shows how uneducated and totally disrespectful you are.
Democracy means accept what the majority wants. 17.4 million people voted to leave.
Accept it and move on...

TheElementsSong · 02/08/2018 11:28

it’s called control

Oh the irony Grin

Part of me would like Boris' head on a spike outside the Tower

Excuse me but I am a vegan.
Thanks for triggering my anxiety.

surferjet · 02/08/2018 11:32

Why is that ironic?

I voted one way you voted the other.
More people voted my way than yours.
You’re not happy with that so want it changed.

If that’s not control I don’t know what is.

bellinisurge · 02/08/2018 11:33

@surferjet believe what you want. No one gives a shit about changing your mind or anyone else's.
Do what you like and take the consequences. I'll still blame you and other leave voters. As I am free to do.

LoveInTokyo · 02/08/2018 11:34

Ihatemycar I really don't give a shiny shit what Cameron said, since he was trying to scare people into voting remain, and when it didn't work, he promptly resigned, sauntered out of No.10 whistling a merry tune and left someone else to deal with the mess he caused. He's now happily writing his memoirs in a £25,000 shabby-chic "shepherd hut" in his garden in Witney and probably getting paid thousands to speak at events.

TheElementsSong · 02/08/2018 11:36

If that’s not control I don’t know what is.

bellinisurge · 02/08/2018 11:37

Smells like paranoia to me.

LoveInTokyo · 02/08/2018 11:38

Right, surferjet and Ihatemycar.

Leave means leave. Fine. We get it. So what is your plan?

Tell us how we resolve the Irish border issue, ensure planes will still fly and supply chains of food and medicine are not disrupted, and that the economy will continue to function more or less as normal.

Because all you are coming out with are meaningless soundbites.

It's all very well to say "leave means leave", but the Brexiters have had over two years since the referendum and they haven't achieved anything of note.

Time is running out.

We need details.

We need to know how we are leaving and what is going to happen afterwards. So that we can plan our lives.

If you can't contribute anything useful or sensible then why on earth should we care what you have to say?

Moussemoose · 02/08/2018 11:40

She said it! She said the democracy thing.

Before I explain what democracy is Ihatemycar is the democracy comment serious or are you being ironic?

Are you saying it to wind me up for a laugh or are you still seriously making that comment?

Post ironic clever humour or sheer stupidity?

FrancinePefko42 · 02/08/2018 11:42

Bearbehind
I want us to leave with no deal leading to the country being on its knees and for Leavers to actually realise what they've caused

I think you speak for ALL sensitive Remainers here Bearbehind.
What do we need to do to ensure this happens?

FrancinePefko42 · 02/08/2018 11:50

Peregrina
It's all very well saying that 'we don't like what the EEC has become'. Perhaps if we had played a fuller part we could have influenced its direction

Quite right Peregrina - by actually voting in elections for the EU Parliament!
Amarite Peregrina?

twofingerstoEverything · 02/08/2018 11:56

Where on earth do you get this crap from?

They scrape it out of the 'alternative facts' barrel.

FrancinePefko42 · 02/08/2018 11:57

LoveInTokyo
There is a big part of me that - as other people have said - wants it to be hard Brexit and a total and utter disaster

I wish I could up vote for this sentiment. Nothing more logical or appealling than wish ill on your country.

derxa · 02/08/2018 11:58

We don't entirely know what we want, they won't change anything or accept that 'one size fits all' does not work and basically we are stuck in this bad marriage because the alternative turns out to be worse.
This seems to be the case.

FridayThirteenth · 02/08/2018 12:03

Some people have a lot of time to spend posting crap. Cages are rattled?

Anyway, like I said, you won't get sense out of some of the posters here who apparently don't care if we get a deal or not. No point in engaging.

Doesn't mean that the same sentiment is shared across the country.

Actually (only anecdotal I know) the Leave voters I know (mostly family but some friends) haven't actually said they regret their view BUT think it's being ballsed up (I'm not sure that their definition of 'not ballsed up' agrees with each other either).

The Sky poll agrees with that.

So they most certainly don't want to 'get on with it' until they know that 'it' is what they wanted (none of them want 'no deal').

So actually, a vote on the terms would suit them.

Like I said, we need to move on from who voted what in the referendum. We all have an equal state in what happens now, the future is not yet set in stone.

bellinisurge · 02/08/2018 12:03

To continue the bad marriage analogy, we can and already do lead fairly separate lives (no Euro/no schengen). Lock yourself out and flush the keys down the toilet should never have been the option.

FridayThirteenth · 02/08/2018 12:04

gah - vote not view, and stake not state
