To ask if those panicking about Brexit realise they've been had?

Honestly, it's pathetic.

This is Project Fear mark 2, spin designed to stop Brexit happening. Politicians and wonks hope that if they spread enough fear around, which is what all these ridiculous 'prepping' threads are, they will stop us leaving the EU.

Everybody needs to calm the fuck down, stop digging their underground food stores/adding some more tins to the Ocado order, and realise this is spin, pure and simple. The world will continue to turn, and food will continue to be on supermarket shelves, regardless of what happens with Brexit.

I am very sad at the lack of sense and backbone so many people are showing here, regardless of views on Brexit.

I'm off to have a gin and put my feet up. I might even eat something from my freezer tonight rather than save it for armageddon #dicingwithdeath

CharlieAstinsMagicHat So we slap import duties on those cars and make more money out of it. A 3% variation is an adjustment on the way we operate our business..

Gabilan · 29/07/2018 23:10

So, will current suppliers in the EU refuse to sell it to us? Presumably, this is also big business

If you read the article linked to upthread, the fear is what will happen if we leave without a deal. If that occurs, then even if they want to, they won't be able to because there will be no agreement in place to enable it.

Now I think it's entirely possible that talk of crashing out without a deal is actually being done so that whatever crummy deal we do end up with looks better than no deal at all. It would explain why it's actually pro-Brexit MPs such as Dominic Raab talking about no deal, rather than it having anything to do with worried remainers.

But the delivery of insulin is time critical. You can't blame people whose lives depend on it for worrying about the supply chain being disrupted due to government incompetence. This government has consistently shown that it is utterly incompetent, and incredibly callous to boot.

ItsalmostSummer · 29/07/2018 23:10

twofingers if you are talking to me, I didn’t say anything about the good ole days. Actually I said the UK coped fine and that the EU just changed things up - that did not mean it was better or worse. Really.
Yes it will change things up when the UK leaves the EU but the sky won’t fall down Grin. This is just like The Henny Penny story - Foxy Loxy, Turkey Lurky - hey, the sky is falling, quick we must all panic!! It was just an acorn falling on their heads (in the story) not the end of the world (or the sky falling down)! GrinGrin

LellyMcKelly · 29/07/2018 23:10

And of course they’ll still sell their cars to us. We’ll just pay more for them. And all that extra tariff money will go straight back into the EU and we will have no say on how it’s spent. You couldn’t make this shit up.

ItsalmostSummer · 29/07/2018 23:10

This conversation = mass hysteria.

TattyCat · 29/07/2018 23:13

And all that extra tariff money will go straight back into the EU

How? Hmm

This is a completely pointless discussion because there's just a crowd of hyenas out there. The sky will fall, so you should all just emigrate.

LoisWilkerson1 · 29/07/2018 23:16

Yabu. I'd rather be crazy and surrounded by baked beans for a few months than do fuck all.

Twombly · 29/07/2018 23:17

Why does everyone get so annoyed by people storing food in case? Or making plan B? Am I asking for you to buy it? Or store it?

Well, quite. Presumably this attitude comes from the same place as the two years of vitriol that's followed getting the referendum outcome they apparently wanted. I sometimes think that Leavers are like toddlers and are left feeling scared and angry by the lack of sensible boundaries being imposed by any responsible adults.

TheElementsSong · 29/07/2018 23:18

The sky will fall, so you should all just emigrate.

But meanwhile, the people-told-to-emigrate mustn’t talk about emigration, or the exact same crowd of posters who told people-to-emigrate, will then castigate people-told-to-emigrate for considering aforementioned emigration.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 29/07/2018 23:19

Are you considering emigrating elements

Inquiring minds need to know

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 29/07/2018 23:20

Or is it

Enquiring minds

Its enquiring isnt it

Dammit!

CharlieAustinsMagicHat · 29/07/2018 23:21

So, we slap an import duty on their cars, they up their prices to compensate and they’re more expensive for us.

It’s late and I’m tired but this doesn’t seem great.

TheElementsSong · 29/07/2018 23:26

If it was up to me we’d be gone already Rufus but no, realistically we have no plans to depart these shores in the coming months.

I was thinking of the very recent thread in AIBU where the OP was considering moving countries and got mightily piled on. I honestly thought she seemed entirely calm and rational, so it was entirely down to her mentioning the “B” word in her first post. Not that i hang out in the Living Overseas board, but I can’t say I’ve seen any of the pilers-on showing up there and shrieking “You’re all hysterical panicking traitorrrrrssss” on those threads.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 29/07/2018 23:30

We're not going anywhere either Grin

Though there were a few people who voted leave who said people should fuck off to another country if they didnt like the results back in the day

Twats

rainbowsandsmiles · 29/07/2018 23:36

Beyond - Groundhog Day's more fun Grin

CharlieAustinsMagicHat · 29/07/2018 23:36

The Millenium bug that an enormous amount of effort was put in remediate you mean? The Millenium bug that took years of work to plan for and resolve. That Millenium bug?

manaftermidnight · 29/07/2018 23:37

Lolz this panicking is just like the millennium bug!!

always some fool trotting that one out. You know why nothing happened with the millenium bug? Because everybody who needed to worked hard to make sure. Not so much with brexit....

BeyondRadicalisationPortal · 29/07/2018 23:37

Aye that one Charlie - it had been at least three posts since someone had said it so thought I'd help out Wink

Givemeallyourcucumber · 29/07/2018 23:53

I know no one in real life who is stock piling anything. Just the MumsNet massive.

Ballora · 29/07/2018 23:53

Yabu.

BeyondRadicalisationPortal · 29/07/2018 23:55

How do you know you don't know anyone who is stockpiling?
First rule of prepclub is you do not talk about prepclub
