To ask if those panicking about Brexit realise they've been had?

Honestly, it's pathetic.

This is Project Fear mark 2, spin designed to stop Brexit happening. Politicians and wonks hope that if they spread enough fear around, which is what all these ridiculous 'prepping' threads are, they will stop us leaving the EU.

Everybody needs to calm the fuck down, stop digging their underground food stores/adding some more tins to the Ocado order, and realise this is spin, pure and simple. The world will continue to turn, and food will continue to be on supermarket shelves, regardless of what happens with Brexit.

I am very sad at the lack of sense and backbone so many people are showing here, regardless of views on Brexit.

I'm off to have a gin and put my feet up. I might even eat something from my freezer tonight rather than save it for armageddon #dicingwithdeath

I am somehow reminded of the grasshopper in Aesop's fable.

He enjoyed the summer, but unlike the realist ant, he starved when winter came.

cardibach · 29/07/2018 19:21

You do realise it’s the pro-Leave Tories starting the discussion about stockpiling? And that they have decided not to share their analysis of the effects of a no-deal Brexit with the public as they would cause panic?

ElinorOliphantIsCompletelyFine · 29/07/2018 19:21

It must be rather relaxing, being too stupid to worry

Brilliantly put

Glumglowworm · 29/07/2018 19:21

Aw bless I didn’t think there was anyone left who believed the bus promises but yet here you are op

Even the idiot lying politicians who wanted Brexit have quit because theyve realised there’s no possible good outcome

RedneckStumpy · 29/07/2018 19:22

Politicians can’t stop Brexit, if they do there will be civil unrest or a civil war from the Remainers.

If it goes ahead then there will be shortages and civil unrest. We are generally screwed either way, personally I am prepared so bring it on

papayasareyum · 29/07/2018 19:23

I completely agree. There’s a political agenda behind the scaremongering and it’s shocking how many are sucked into it. Of course, politicians are advising us of what could happen, but that’s mostly politically motivated too, depending on whether they want a deal/no deal and are pro remain/Brexit. Even bloody Theresa May is pro remain, so I don’t believe a word she says either Grin

Munchmallow · 29/07/2018 19:23

How fucking rude Hmm

I agree OP. I have nothing against stockpiling a bit extra in case of illness or bad weather, but these threads encourage panic buying which leads to shortages in the shops.

Well said!

BatSegundo · 29/07/2018 19:24

YABU. If it's designed to stop Brexit, then why are the government (including leavers like Raab) talking about it? You're quite right that there's no need for people to feel desperately anxious, but until there is a deal in place and lots of issues around customs, airspace etc are resolved, then planning for an accidental crash out is sensible.

InfiniteSheldon · 29/07/2018 19:24

I couldn't agree more it's anything and everything to overturn and undermine Project Fear' indeed

user1471456357 · 29/07/2018 19:24

Do you think there would be civil unrest if Brexit was stopped?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/07/2018 19:24

Not a all of them have properly quit. Some are just busy moving their assets out of the U.K.

At what point do you think the Leavers will realise they’ve been had?

gnomeisland · 29/07/2018 19:25

Oh I am so relieved to hear that. I can't thank you enough!

You are 100%, quite categorically saying that insulin supplies will be totally available in the event of No Deal, despite what Sir Michael Rawlings has said? That's AMAZING! Can you point me in the direction of the confirmation please?

That's incorrect. People buying a few extra tins or loo rolls at the moment will not lead to shortages, as there is a fully adequate supply line in place.

After Brexit, however, who knows what will happen to that supply line? It's very sensible to stock up now while we know we still can.

cardibach · 29/07/2018 19:26

The big advantage of this debate is that we’ll know who was right sooner or later. I hope there’s some recognition of this from those who turn out to be wrong. (I don’t think it’ll be me, based on the government’s own projections).

SluttyButty · 29/07/2018 19:26

Glum exactly and what TheShapeof said sums it up perfectly.

papayasareyum · 29/07/2018 19:27

there’s no option for angry pissed off remain voters other than a relentless and aggressive campaign of scaremongering. Anything to possibly derail Brexit. Expect much much more of the same Smile

Singlenotsingle · 29/07/2018 19:27

Agree entirely, growingboys

GhostofFrankGrimes · 29/07/2018 19:28

The only people who have been had are leave voters. What exactly are the benefits of Brexit? If prepping is such a big joke what should I be looking forward to?

Plumsofwrath · 29/07/2018 19:29

Looking in from the outside (I live abroad), I just don’t get all this moaning! Whether you voted Remain or Leave, you are where you are. What’s the point in being so miserable, pessimistic, rude, defeatist about it?? Wouldn’t you all be better off making the best of the situation you find yourselves in and supporting each other and your government to get the best deal possible rather than wallowing in this, frankly quite ugly, self-pitying misery??!

MissBartlettsconscience · 29/07/2018 19:30

I need pasta and loo roll anyway so buying a bit in advance of when I might need it isn't exactly 'being had'. It's just saving a bit of money against costs going up the closer we get to March 2019 and shops cashing in.
