Question for people who say they have switched from Remain to Leave

They may well exist but i think people who have looked into it in more detail and have changed their mind are very rare

Much more prevalent seem to be the 'i voted remain but remainers and the EU are so mean ive now changed my mind'.

Which if true seems a bit, well silly really

Rosstac · 19/07/2018 17:43

KennDodd I think she is by a lot of people,

KennDodd · 19/07/2018 17:46

Problem is I think unless another Ref had an overwhelming majority from Remain, it might not solve anything. Well, actually, it would solve a lot, NI border, security for business etc it just wouldn't heal the pain and division this whole (Tory) mess has caused.

Topseyt · 19/07/2018 17:56

Farage is a hypocrite. The only chance he had of becoming a member of any parliament was to stand for election as an MEP.

So, he stood for election to the parliament of an organisation he purports to despise (and which despises him), was duly elected and has spectacularly failed to serve any purpose there. Unless that purpose is to simply be a thorn in the side of the EU and UK. He rarely even attends when the EU Parliament is in session, so what is the point of him?

He is Mr. Useless, or Mr. Incompetent.

TheElementsSong · 19/07/2018 18:10

it just wouldn't heal the pain and division

I don't think anything is going to heal the pain and division.

LoveInTokyo · 19/07/2018 18:26

No, the pain and division is here to stay, and no matter what happens half the country is going to hate the other half (thanks again Cameron, you dick), so the sensible option would be to ignore the result of the referendum and not fuck the economy for the next two generations.

JimWilsonBell · 19/07/2018 18:56

Yes - remain

Peregrina · 19/07/2018 18:58

Yes Remain and would still Remain again, and most Leavers I know have gone mighty quiet about things now.

Blushah · 19/07/2018 19:26

Yes, they're 'bored with it' and 'just want to get on with it'... even though no one knows what 'it' is!

Peregrina · 19/07/2018 19:37

And 'we were OK before'.

specialsubject · 19/07/2018 19:48

would the eu allow us to revoke article 50?

pure conjecture with no definite answer. although I am not declaring that I know how others think as so many on here do. And as Cameron did, stupid sod.

Buteo · 19/07/2018 19:49

Sue for fishing rights

You mean the fishing quotas that UK trawler owners sold off to the Spanish and the Dutch along with their boats because the UK government wouldn't pay into the scrappage scheme for the boats?

notaswarmtomorrow · 19/07/2018 19:58

Blush it makes me despair, get on with it as though it could ever have been as easy as that Hmm

notaswarmtomorrow · 19/07/2018 20:00

Peregrina agree they have all gone bloody quiet, although the few I do know who voted leave were all very quiet at the time too, still don't really know why any of them voted leave. Something to do with agriculture for a couple of them, taking back control etc whatever the hell that means.

Peregrina · 19/07/2018 20:31

The two I know where 'we were all right before', and 'we send too much money to the EU'. Both intelligent people, both retired (as I am), but the key thing, both unquestioning Telegraph readers.

I haven't yet heard either of them say what they expect to happen in the future, particularly the 'we were all right before' one. Which industry do you expect to be bought back by a British firm? would be a starter.

KennDodd · 19/07/2018 23:21

Some leave voters i know just seem a bit embarrassed about the whole thing so we dont really talk about it, if it comes up they just look uncomfortable, I don't know if they've changed their mind. The racist I know are still all for it. Polling gets a lot of criticism but I think You Gov is quite good, last time I looked there had only been a small shift to Remain. I read some research that said that polling would have to consistently reach 60% Remain before Gov would take notice. I don't think that's going to happen before Brexit date.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 19/07/2018 23:29

Unfortunately Farage is far from Mr. Useless or Mr. Incompetent.

He is the driving force as to why we had a referendum Boris just took it over the winning line

It was a mistake was to not take him seriously

LoveInTokyo · 19/07/2018 23:57

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed I agree.

He is very competent and good at what he does.

Unfortunately, what he does is advance his own agenda, irrespective of the damage that he is doing to the country and people’s lives, and he does it by any means necessary in the sure and certain knowledge that he can never be held accountable.

I am amazed that so many people are still falling for his lies. He’s the biggest traitor to his country who ever lived.

Peregrina · 20/07/2018 00:05

The Tories did take him seriously though. That's one reason why Cameron had the Referendum. The Tories did realise they were losing support to UKIP. It was only latter that they also realised that the nasty bigoted insular attitude also appealed to a certain type of Labour voter too. May then went and overplayed her hand, thinking that the sort of Labour voter who would support UKIP would also support the UKIP tendency in the Tory party, but on that she was mistaken.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 20/07/2018 00:24

It was a bit too late then

But many times I saw him on TV and he would be mocked especially by those on the left

And he would just sit their grinning he knew exactly what he was doing he knew his populist policies appealed to many and he knew that he was seen as listening and engaging with them, a man of the people as so many people had totally lost faith in whatever you want to call it establishment/the elite

But when it came down to voting him in as an MP he didn’t win surprisingly and in high supporting UKIP area interesting as to why people would only support him so far

But there you go if anyone in the last 10 years has changed our course in history it’s him and Boris

Peregrina · 20/07/2018 07:47

I think you have put your finger on it Enthusiasm with your last word Boris.

Without Boris jumping on the Leave bandwagon I doubt whether Leave would have won. He gave the campaign a legitimacy that Farage can't quite pull off. It would have meant that Cameron's problem of what to do with the right wing Europhobes in his party hadn't gone away, and it would have seen Cameron off and Boris as PM, but we wouldn't be having Brexit talks right now.

MrPan · 20/07/2018 08:18

I think Peregrina is exactly right. The whole shit show has appealed to a nasty racist stratum of UK population. I am married to an Asian woman and we have already been spat at in the street in the last weeks.

Post Brexit will herald a reduced economy and a licence for untethered barbarism toward anyone who doesn't look Anglo Saxon.

Cheers Dave. We aren't in this together. At all.

DarlingNikita · 20/07/2018 10:32

Agree (although I also do agree that Farage is highly intelligent and shrewd).

I live in London and although I love it and its people with a passion, I can never forgive them for making Boris Johnson mayor. Twice. I suspect people voted him in for a laugh (the Boaty McBoatface syndrome) but they made him into a Trojan horse: the Tory it was OK to like even if you don't like Tories.

It has led to disaster.

PerkingFaintly · 20/07/2018 10:37

Oh god, MrPan. I'm so sorry. I followed a bit about your nuptials, and was so pleased for you.

How utterly horrid for you and the new Mrs Pan.Sad

Rosstac · 20/07/2018 10:42

DarlingNikita And the new major is doing so much better with all that blood on his hands
