I think the mn brexiteer line on that is ‘no one knows- it might be good it might be bad’

Rosstac · 26/07/2018 12:14

frumpety To make it look like we are prepared to leave the EU with a no deal

TheElementsSong · 26/07/2018 12:17

To make it look like we are prepared to leave the EU with a no deal

"If you don't call unicorns into existence, I'll blow my own head off!"

frumpety · 26/07/2018 12:24

Thank you for answering my question Rosstac. Smile

Why would the government need to stockpile in the event of no deal ?

bellinisurge · 26/07/2018 12:28

Yes, what a cool idea. Piss people off, deliberately make them not have faith in you , upset business planning, upset the NI peace process, have people terrified their families won't get vital medicine.
That'll show them we mean it. #cunningplan.

MotherofPearl · 26/07/2018 12:29

Rosstac, or any other Leavers on here: how can you read the economic forecasts I've just posted and still want to Leave? I'm genuinely perplexed.

SacrebleuLondres · 26/07/2018 12:32

Hi all

I'd like to arrange a referendum to abolish gravity so I weigh less.

Who's with me?

PineappleSunrise · 26/07/2018 12:33

If I get to fly like an eagle when we win, I'm right with you Sacre.

SacrebleuLondres · 26/07/2018 12:37

A vote for Brexit is literally as sensible as abolishing gravity. I'm sure some think it's possible.

Rosstac · 26/07/2018 13:17

MotherofPearl Because I honestly do not believe them, i heard it all from people about when we wouldn’t join the Euro and more recently I The event of a leave vote, the same experts that missed the financial crash which we are all still paying for, the same experts that tried to scare us over Y2 K that was blown all out of proportion only affected a few old machines, Greenland didn’t suffer, yes there will be some adjustments to begin with, none of you know 100% what will happen

Rosstac · 26/07/2018 13:18

SacrebleuLondres No it’s not because we know for a fact what will happen if we loss gravity

SacrebleuLondres · 26/07/2018 13:22

Very clever @Rosstac !!

bellinisurge · 26/07/2018 13:23

@Rosstac - for the umpteenth time, Y2K didn't have the catastrophic effect feared because tech experts worked long and hard with plenty of warning to lessen any impact. They did a great job. They had years to prepare.
The opposite of what we are facing now.

TheElementsSong · 26/07/2018 13:24

Middle-class experts? What do they know?

frumpety · 26/07/2018 13:25

So why would the government need to stockpile in the event of a no deal Rosstac ? what would happen that would make it necessary ?

GeorgeIII · 26/07/2018 13:26

@bellinisurge - of course it was going to be difficult to leave, bound to be, how hard is it to change laws - parliament, house of lords etc etc, or change your bank account nowadays awful.
Fishing policies, finance, customs of course that was going to be a nightmare . But in the end say 5 years from now we should be getting on with stuff, not weighed down by Brussels bleating. Imv other countries will leave too.

bellinisurge · 26/07/2018 13:27

@Rosstac , our complex economy is bit like Greenland.
As for the sub-prime mortgage market that screwed the economy, people were banging on about how risky that was for years.
I know because I avoided that sort of mortgage and lived with my parents until I could afford one. The banks kept trying to get me into this racket and I said no. Based on what ordinary boring northern non- experts were telling me.

bellinisurge · 26/07/2018 13:28

So like Greenland it's scary!!!

bellinisurge · 26/07/2018 13:29

@GeorgeIII - you give it five years? Nice. Is that when I get my unicorn?

SacrebleuLondres · 26/07/2018 13:30

@GeorgeIII

What Brussels bleating are you referring to?

What are you looking forward to doing that you can't do today?

frumpety · 26/07/2018 13:31

George Rees Mogg says add a 0 to that 5 , WE will see the benefits in 50 years , HE will see them a lot sooner I am sure Smile

frumpety · 26/07/2018 13:32

He is a like Robin hood in reverse Smile

TheElementsSong · 26/07/2018 13:33

Brexiteers just keep adding layers of often mutually contradictory narratives as events have unfolded. We could call it the “Six+ Impossible Things before Brexit” fairytale.

  1. We know exactly what we voted for - It’s going to be super-easily achieved marvellous Sunlit Uplands with no downsides because They Need Us More Than We Need Them and Don’t They Know Who We Are and we all just have to BeLeave to make it happen.
  1. We know exactly what we voted for - It would have been (1) if it wasn’t for the PunishmentBullying of the EU and the negative NotBeLeaving Project Fear Sabotage of the Traitorous Remoaners.
  1. We know exactly what we voted for - We never said it was going to be easy but we’ll get to the Sunlit Uplands eventually and then it will be marvellous “short term pain for long term gain”.
  1. We know exactly what we voted for - We always knew it would be hard and might be hard forever, but we voted to be poorer, hardship is worth it because Sovereignty, Patriotism and SomethingBlitzSpirit.
  1. We know exactly what we voted for - But any reports of negative events are Fake News, because despite (4) and (5) nothing negative could happen because of Brexit; therefore even talking about preparing for food/medicine shortages is hysterical scaremongering treason by Traitorous Remoaners and no True Patriot would save even a grain of rice.
  1. We know exactly what we voted for - As we’ve said all along, preparing for food/medicine shortages is what any sensible True Patriot would do because stockpiling is Comforting, and will show the BullyingEU Who We Are and they won’t notice that They Don’t Need Us More Than We Need Them.
...

And, importantly, often the same Leaver will use any combination of these, sometimes in the same thread or even the same post. They are, you see, all simultaneously true.

bellinisurge · 26/07/2018 13:36

@TheElementsSong - thank you. My only laugh of the day (rueful though it is)

GeorgeIII · 26/07/2018 13:37

I've just said it wouldn't be easy - it's pointless trying to discuss because brexiteers have convinced themselves they know why anyone voted leave.
I was going to say give it 10 years but thought you'd all be upset.
Stop telling me why I voted leave, please.
