Since BrexitArmsLandlady says she isn't starting anymore threads here's a place to discuss Brexit developments for those that still want to.

It never ceases to amaze me what a shambles this is.

The cabinet still can't even agree what we want, let alone what we're going to get.

Which is prob what frumpetty said to begin with Grin yeah I can see how that could work.

Bearbehind · 15/07/2018 19:24

Did you watch the World Cup final? If we'd got that far- can you imagine TM having stood in the torrential rain and congratulating all the players as the President of Croatia did?

Much as I hate football- It's quite a good analogy.

Times are changing- these old fogeys with their dated ideas, need to go.

If Boris flipped he would be a traitor to the leavers and does anyone think remainers are going to carry him on their shoulders to be PM? His only hope is to point to soft Brexit as a disaster and become the champion of actually leaving the EU.

< waits for argument that politicians never lie >
Of course you are right but Jeremy Corbyn is different 'isn't he'? So either he is a culpable as all the other liars or there will never be an alternative to Brexit while he is strangling the Labour party.

NotDavidTennant · 15/07/2018 19:31

Boris's biggest problem is that he is seen as utterly disloyal and unprincipled. To switch sides now would just reinforce that. It would be absolute political suicide. Boris is many things but he is not stupid.

Bearbehind · 15/07/2018 19:32

Said by one of the approx 25% of people in this country that voted for it.

You're not in the majority in the grand sceheme of things.

BJ knows that and isn't going to put his neck on the line to deliver your impossible whim.

Once you've stripped out the Leavers who didn't vote to make themselves poorer and will change their allegiance as soon as it becomes clear that is what Hard Brexit would achieve, you're left with very little support.

I don't know.

He's switched sides before- he used to be pro-EU.

TM is a Remainer but is responsible for delivering Brexit.

One thing this whole fiasco has shown is people don't always analyse the facts.

I don't know what Boris will say in his speech but I'd put a lot more money on him changing sides than I would on him running for PM now.

{Boris is many things but he is not stupid.}
So which part of saying to European 'colleagues' 'F£$% business' isn't stupid?

NotDavidTennant · 15/07/2018 19:45

He's switched sides before- he used to be pro-EU.

Yes, and now he's known as the person who wrote two articles, one for and one against Brexit, and choose which one to run with based on narrow ambition. If he'd been seen as a more principled person then he would have stood for, and won, the last Conservative leadership election and be serving as PM now.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/07/2018 19:45

They still don’t believe it. They still want to get on with it. They’ve got no idea.

I said on another thread about a friend who’s just been made redundant- company moving from London to Madrid. They are devastated but still refuse to think it’s brexit. People prefer denial.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/07/2018 19:47

And Boris knows this- if he can blame the eu for Brexit going shit he will. - And people will lap it up- they already do.

Bearbehind · 15/07/2018 19:49

If he'd been seen as a more principled person then he would have stood for, and won, the last Conservative leadership election and be serving as PM now.

Exactly.

He sold out then and is more than capable of doing so again.

He knew he'd win that PM contest given the opponents so he took himself out of the running because he knew Brexit couldn't be delivered.

As I said, I'd be far more shocked if he put himself up to deliver Hard Brexit than I would him changing sides now.

OP posts:
NotDavidTennant · 15/07/2018 19:49

He's not going to run for PM now.

He's just re-signed his deal to write for the Telegraph. I can't imagine he would have done that if was planning to dramatically switch sides, but he clearly also doesn't expect to be too busy in the coming weeks either.

Bearbehind · 15/07/2018 19:50

It doesn't matter helmet, there's still more non-Leavers than Leavers.

Those who didn't vote aren't going to err on the side of making themselves poorer.

OP posts:
Helmetbymidnight · 15/07/2018 19:52

I bet he fancies himself as pm of a hard Brexit- like Churchill battling those awful Europeans, only Boris stands strong.

Urghhhh

Thing is he knows he is despised by remainders, he might as well stick with his fan base, and blame everyone else.

Bearbehind · 15/07/2018 19:55

I don't actually despise him.

He's a shrewd cookie (albeit a prat).

He doesn't actually support Leave, he never has.

You look back at every move he's made since Leave won - it's trying to disassociate himself from the fact Leave ruined his plans by bloody winning.

OP posts:
Helmetbymidnight · 15/07/2018 19:58

I despise him, he’s my second least favourite brexiteer - praps because he’s motivations are so cynical and transparent.

Bearbehind · 15/07/2018 20:00

They can't be that transparent if you honestly think he's a Brexiteer! 😂

How on earth can anyone seriously think BJ could be PM? he is a fucking idiot, he was an idiot as the Mayor of London.. swinging around on a zip wire FFS. its hardly Lord Carrington is it?
In any other era, he d be living it up in the flesh pots of Europe and would have died of Syphilis

Helmetbymidnight · 15/07/2018 20:05
Grin
Bearbehind · 15/07/2018 20:06

No more of an idiot than TM or JC, and I'm no fan of BJ.

An eighth? Minister resigned today over mays plans...will bj try to galvanise them?

Place your bets.

Mines a maybe. Wink

Bearbehind · 15/07/2018 20:12

Boris is at least passionate and eloquent. TM just repeats things in the most unnerving, dispassionate way.

In the press conference on Friday she twice reeled off the list of what will happen when we leave the EU and it didn't sound remotely convincing.

She's like one of those dolls where you pull the string and she says what she's been programmed to say.

With repeated use of the word 'clearly'

{An eighth? Minister resigned today over mays plans...will bj try to galvanise them? }
Galvanise, as in dip them in a bath of molten zinc. That would make good reality TV.

jasjas1973 · 15/07/2018 20:38

Yep JC and May are also idiots but far behind BJ in the idiocy stakes.

BJ is dangerous because people believe he is passionate and eloquent, where as they see through the others.

Jeez i wish he had died of Syphilis lol!
