Not the Brexit Arms

Since BrexitArmsLandlady says she isn't starting anymore threads here's a place to discuss Brexit developments for those that still want to.

It never ceases to amaze me what a shambles this is.

The cabinet still can't even agree what we want, let alone what we're going to get.

There's a definite irony in the fact that if England make it to he World Cup final we'll be playing France or Belgium.

Getting betaken by either of hose teams would be hugely symbolic and really quite amusing

However, if we win, if fear it will stir up the nationalists and we'll have even more of the 'they need us more than we need them' nonsense.

Do I gather there are some blokes kicking a ball around soon?

bearbehind · 07/07/2018 16:51

If we win the World Cup can we forget about Brexit?

That will ‘show them’ won’t it?

Why hasn't RayneDance come back to answer questions? Or, to offer an opinion on what May achieved yesterday evening.

54321go · 07/07/2018 18:48

@Peregrina
Probably away checking some facts.

jasjas1973 · 07/07/2018 20:15

Most leavers consider they ve "won" and do not consider they have to explain any further, being out of the EU is enough for them.

Bearbeheind · 07/07/2018 20:27

Agreed jas which is why I'm pondering whether beating France or Belgium in the Workd Cup final would be perceived by the majority of Leavers as 'sticking it up them' to sufficient levels that Brexit could be forgotten.

Sadly, I think it probably would.

Which is why this whole process is so fucking annoying.

CardinalSin · 07/07/2018 21:38

Oh dear, has the BrexitBot realised they are out of their depth?

ConstantlyCold · 07/07/2018 22:13

I’m an on and off lurker. Great thread.

That Brexit Deal for Britain is insane.

May is cocking this up so badly I’m wondering if she’s doing it on purpose. Leading the country to the conclusion that actually Leaving won’t be the sunlit uplands people dreamed off (were lied to about). And she can call the whole thing off.

Every time I think it can’t get worse it bloody does.

surferjet · 08/07/2018 07:23

Knock Knick.....Smile

Oh no, it looks like England have made the semi finals of the WORLD CUP!

Success - National pride - joy.

You lot must be seething 😂

Talkstotrees · 08/07/2018 07:38

What a bizarre statement. Why would any of us be seething?

frumpety · 08/07/2018 08:07

Really happy that the England team have done so well Football

Can still seethe about Brexit though, because I love my country Smile

frumpety · 08/07/2018 08:13

Not taxi trashing happy , just 'that's nice' happy Wink

Peregrina · 08/07/2018 08:18

What's there to seethe about? A young, cooperative team, (unlike a previous generation), which reflects the reality of multi racial Britain - the young people could be showing us the way forward, and could teach the politicians a few decent lessons. Those self same politicians who will milk the situation if the team do win.

surferjet · 08/07/2018 08:29

That’s why ( a minority) ) of remainers don’t want England to win the World Cup, because if we do, you think politicians will use it to our advantage - & that’s your worst nightmare - the UK having any advantages. You’re only happy when you think Brussels have the upper hand.

Seriously weird.

Peregrina · 08/07/2018 08:48

Now that you've surfaced Surferjet - your thoughts on May's attempts last Friday, including her attempt to square the NI/RoI Irish border issues? Is May on the way to deliver the Brexit you want?

Peregrina · 08/07/2018 08:49

BTW Politicians always milk sporting success - even if they wouldn't know a football from a tennis ball. Like scorpions and stings - it's just in their nature.

ConstantlyCold · 08/07/2018 08:51

That’s why ( a minority) ) of remainers don’t want England to win the World Cup, because if we do, you think politicians will use it to our advantage

I’m not remotely interested in football but I’m pleased about the World Cup. It’s making so many people happy.

How exactly do politicians use a World Cup win to their advantage when securing a deal with the EU?

54321go · 08/07/2018 09:38

@surfer
This is a critical view of Mrs Mays 'plan' that she announced yesterday.
Have a read through and summarise, one sentence will do, what you think the UK should do.

lawyersforbritain.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Chequers-Briefing-Memo.pdf

Bear in mind that since the triggering of Article 50, the business world has got exceedingly nervous and needs a workable plan IMMEDIATELY if not 2 years ago.
Britain winning the world cup would be 'nice' in a way but as has been said earlier will be used by politicians to 'bury bad news'.

surferjet · 08/07/2018 09:42

Peregrina
I don’t comment on Brexit negotiations anymore, ( well hardy ever )
it’s nothing but backwards & forwards & way too exhausting for me.
But I’m happy with the way things are going so far. There was always going to be some compromise & most people accept that.

prettybird · 08/07/2018 10:08

Aaaarg ShockAngry 54321 - that is exactly what pisses Scots off - Britain can't win the World Cup. England is the team that has got through to the semi finals.

It is the constant conflation by the English of England with Britain that contributes to many Scots desire for independence Hmm

Peregrina · 08/07/2018 10:27

Then why bother to come on this thread then surferjet, since it was only to make a goady assumption about Remainers? Wrongly it would appear.

DaisyTwirl · 08/07/2018 10:44

A lot of po-faced remainers on twitter have been bitching about the World Cup & seem obsessed with continually referring to the race & ethnicity of the team.

Weird.
(Although it's the batshit FBPE lot, so probs not that weird at all - they're unhinged).

54321go · 08/07/2018 11:45

Many apologies @prettybird
Keyboard/braincell fail of course you are right it is England playing the football.
I am trying to do something else today while seething at the gross stupidity of the whole 'Brexit' mess, while actually wanting to go out and sit in the sunshine.

Mistigri · 08/07/2018 12:06

Many or even most European football teams (league teams but also many national teams) rely heavily on players who are immigrants or the children of immigrants. Which makes the nationalism and even overt racism so often associated with football all the more shameful. There is nothing wrong with pointing this out, nor in pointing out that football would be poorer without immigration.
