Since BrexitArmsLandlady says she isn't starting anymore threads here's a place to discuss Brexit developments for those that still want to.

It never ceases to amaze me what a shambles this is.

The cabinet still can't even agree what we want, let alone what we're going to get.

Well as the UK would not have export licenses everyone can just stay at home as there will be no work apart from picking their own fruit and veg.

frumpety · 02/07/2018 19:01

Stopped listening to Radio 4 in the morning , but thought I would give it another go as I like a good racing tip Wink Anyway this morning was quite interesting in that the person interviewing did not let the interviewee get away with spouting nonsense , they let them spout it , but then actually gave them a bit of a grilling. Interesting turn of events or one off ? , will listen tomorrow to see how it goes.

CardinalSin · 02/07/2018 19:14

It would be nice for the Beeb to actually make the Quitlings answer for their lies. I don''t see that much change though.

Actually, this is the one I meant to post.

Not the Brexit Arms
frumpety · 02/07/2018 20:32

Cardinal that's really why I stopped listening , I don't have an issue with people having a different view point to my own , if that view point is backed by facts. Any questions on Friday , again the interviewer had a bit of a go at the interviewee when he tried to spout a bit of nonsense regarding Bojo , really pulled him up short. I do wonder if those who are doing the interviews are a bit fed up, it can't do your professional image any good if you keep kowtowing to everyone who spouts bollocks ?

bearbehind · 05/07/2018 22:16

Tomorrow should be interesting since it appears the cabinet are meeting to thrash out (yet again) which proposal they can go the the EU with.

Given every option has already been rejected by the EU it's yet another waste of everyone's time.

Leavers must be so proud of what a success we are making of this Hmm

What staggers me is how far the eu managed to suck us in without democratic vote! It should have never been so far in, how can our politicians sign away our freedoms after the the world wars and dictator ships.

Appalling. If anyone reading this values their political freedom and vote, ask why, how we managed To go so far in without being consulted. Signing us away to eu = signing East Europe over to communism.

54321go · 06/07/2018 22:54

Don't necessarily 'blame' the EU. The British government(s) have made all sorts of 'dodgy deals' over the years.
We signed up in the 1970s, undemocratically to begin with but voted for a couple of years later.
British MEPs have been looking after our interests since then (or not).

RayneDance · 07/07/2018 00:00

Voted for what a couple of years later??
British government signed up to dodgy deals but you think the European Parliament is immune to dodgy deals?

JWIM · 07/07/2018 00:49

What EU 'dodgy deals', specifically, would you be referring to Rayne? With linked to verified evidence of said deals. No generalisations, no Daily Mail type inference, cold hard peer reviewed evidence.

Peregrina · 07/07/2018 01:13

I don't know why you are staggered RayneDance. I am pretty sure that going into the then EEC was part of the Tory manifesto at the time. Heath, rather to everyone's surprise, won in 1970, and allowed his Parliamentary representatives to get on with the job they were elected for. Even the Mail was an enthusiastic supporter of the EEC. Since then we have had numerous elections - let's see, two in 1974, one in 79, 83, 87, 92, 97, 2001, 05, 10, 15, 17 (this last completely unnecessary, but no matter). Hardly a suspension of democracy. By contrast, Referenda haven't been the normal way we conduct Government business and the 2016 one, was held because Cameron was trying to silence his extreme right wing, and ran for the hills as soon as he failed. Since he almost certainly didn't expect to win the 2015 election, he expected to use Lib Dem blocking as an excuse. A weak man, who I hope will go down in history as one of our worst PMs.

Immediately after the War the USA started promoting the Cold War, which may have helped 'sign Eastern Europe over to Communism'. It may have happened anyway, but it predated the EEC/EU by about 10 years, so I don't think W Europe and the original six can take any blame for that.

How can people 'sign away rights after world wars and dictatorships'? Because the people signing up for the original EEC, the original six, had had an absolute bellyful of dictatorships, with millions killed, many more displaced and towns and cities ruined and knew that they had to find a better way.

As for your wittering on about them- thank your lucky stars that you haven't experienced a Dictatorship; you might change your tune if you did. (Instead of the usual Leaver anti-German claptrap)

bearbehind · 07/07/2018 07:40

Dear oh dear. It’s embarrassing that this is as far as we’ve got, ie nowhere.

The EU have already rejected most of this. Why on earth does TM think if she puts it on a document signed by her that will magically change.

The arrogance of Leavers will never cease to amaze me.

@RayneDance

What freedoms do we no longer have that have been signed away?

DGRossetti · 07/07/2018 08:35

What freedoms do we no longer have that have been signed away?

remainers have been asking this of Leavers since before the referendum.

I think if there was an answer, we'd have it by now.

(See also "taking back control", or "regaining sovereignty" ...)

Peregrina · 07/07/2018 09:03

We would have the answer by now and Gove, Johnson and Co would have been in a position to resign, and organise a leadership challenge, secure in the knowledge that they had a working alternative with which to persuade other MPs. Instead, zilch in terms of resignations.... Where is their backbone?!

DGRossetti · 07/07/2018 09:11

Where is their backbone?!

Maybe they need to take back control ?

{British MEPs have been looking after our interests since then}
Take the fishing industry. There was a 'scrapage scheme' years ago where small boat owners could get bought out of small businesses to reduce the over fishing problem. All NON British boats were simply sold 'as is' with no rights to fishing, however due to British schemes each boat had been allocated fishing rights. Failure to spot this by the British but subsequently capitalised by 'EU' fishermen who could buy the boats and get the fishing rights 'thrown in'. Thus Britain's fishermen lost the rights. Largely down to not reading the rules and thinking forwards (seems like a trend somehow).

54321go · 07/07/2018 09:42

Not sure if this was occurring at the time when Mr Farage was an MEP but his 'rare appearances' in Brussels was pointed out by a Belgian? MEP, describing Mr Farage as a massive waste of EU money.

54321go · 07/07/2018 09:44

@bearbehind. Please tell me that notice by Mrs May was actually a year 7 homework project and not the result of 2 years governmental negotiation.

bearbehind · 07/07/2018 09:46

Sadly it's for real 54321 It's shocking isn't it?

OP posts:
54321go · 07/07/2018 10:23

Well I can see that the EU will have a comment of at least 5 of those 'clauses' and they are two word replies with the second word being 'off' (in English).

54321go · 07/07/2018 10:25

'of' should be 'about'. The sheer stupidity leaves my braincell exasperated.

bearbehind · 07/07/2018 10:27

It's barely moved on from the original 'cake and eat it' plan.

What are they playing at?

All this time to finally, reluctantly, agree a plan that's already been rejected by the EU.

About the only easily achievable item is number 8, leaving the CAP.
Mind you I have no idea where the Gov will find the subsidies that farmers get, just increase taxes I suppose. Combined with the increased tax to fund the NHS and new infrastructure this will go down well especially as international companies leave because the UK can't be trusted.
