I think I'm possibly the most depressed about Brexit that I've ever been.

Yes, we're getting BINO so it's the least worst option but Leavers are so bloody blasé about it all it only serves to demonstrate their complete lack of believe or conviction in their choices.

I'd be much happier if there had been uproar about BINO, at least it would have shown some passion for this situation.

TalkinPeace · 03/03/2018 20:51

They'll lose the popular vote if he's voted in
That is what people said about Corbyn and he trashed TM's majority

Tory Party members are interesting things I deal with a lot of them they think JRM is the future

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/03/2018 20:56

Yes, we're getting BINO so it's the least worst option but Leavers are so bloody blasé about it all it only serves to demonstrate their complete lack of believe or conviction in their choices.

BINO = remaining a member of the single market & customs union.

This is not what TM proposed.

If TM has said 'we are going to join the SM & CU', then I'd have been very pissed off, but she didn't - she said no to both.

Doubletrouble99 · 03/03/2018 21:02

Bear - I don't know what your talking about TM never said we were joining the CU and the SM she categorically stated that that was not what we were doing. Did you listen at all to the speech?

bearbehind · 03/03/2018 21:03

Let's see faith.

I still think you're the frogs in the pot being warmed up for the u-turn on SM/CU

Yesterday's speech didn't offer any actual solutions, just managed your expectations.

Every time she speaks her red lines become slightly more pink; soon they won't exist.

BINO is continuing to pay the EU for access to the parts we want, which is pretty much everything.

Infact, it's not even as good as BINO because we no longer have a say.

Doubletrouble99, the UK will need trade deals after Brexit.

The UK will have to do whatever countries such as US, China, etc. will tell it to do. It will have no choice. The UK will be vulnerable as it will need to secure these trade deals quickly and it will not be in a position to play hardball with any of these. The UK is a much smaller trading partner than the EU and certainly won't have anywhere near the same clout when negotiating deals.

frumpety · 03/03/2018 21:06

If TM has said 'we are going to join the SM & CU', then I'd have been very pissed off, but she didn't - she said no to both.

forgive me if I am being a bit dim , on my third gin , but are we not already in the SM and CU , so need to join ?

Doubletrouble99 · 03/03/2018 21:16

We should get a decent deal from the EU then we will have to look at the current FTA the EU already have and pick the ones we want sooner than later, like South Korea and Canada.
We really don't need to rush into FTA with the likes of the USA and China all that quickly as for a start we want to make sure it's the right deal for us. Remember we are the 6th biggest trading nation in the world folks.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/03/2018 21:19

forgive me if I am being a bit dim , on my third gin , but are we not already in the SM and CU , so need to join ?

If we are leaving the EU, we leave both.
We can ask to join both as part of the post Brexit relationship.

frumpety · 03/03/2018 21:20

Are we Double ? does any of our success have anything to do with being a member of the EU ?

frumpety · 03/03/2018 21:21

Didn't TM also mention that our access to markets would be smaller ? would that have a negative impact on our number 6 spot ?

Doubletrouble99 · 03/03/2018 21:22

No frumpety. We have always been one of the largest trading nations in the World. actually think we have been held back by the EU.

frumpety · 03/03/2018 21:23

So Faith if we don't leave the CU/SM then we wouldn't be asking to join would we ?

frumpety · 03/03/2018 21:25

That's interesting Double given our relatively small size , what do we trade in ?

Hasenstein · 03/03/2018 21:26

Double

"We should get a decent deal from the EU then we will have to look at the current FTA the EU already have and pick the ones we want sooner than later"

This is not just our decision. The countries with whom the EU has a trade deal would be required to agree to continue those deals with us, so-call grandfathering. But they may well decide not to do so, as the EU has far more clout than we do, they weren't desperate or running out of time when the deals were signed. Other countries may well try to extract more from a deal with us and that will take time, which we really don't have.

Doubletrouble99 · 03/03/2018 21:29

Hasen - I'm not suggesting we will be able to 'grandfather' the EU's current trade deals but that we should look at gaining our own a.s.a.p. ourselves with the most beneficial to us.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/03/2018 21:30

So Faith if we don't leave the CU/SM then we wouldn't be asking to join would we ?

If we leave the EU, we are leaving both the SM & CU.

The UK can request to join both as part of the negotiations.

frumpety · 03/03/2018 21:32

Double if we are not going to continue with passporting post Brexit , then is the loss of trade in services not going to have quite a hefty impact on the economy ?

TalkinPeace · 03/03/2018 21:32

The UK can request to join both as part of the negotiations.
and if they all say no ....?

bearbehind · 03/03/2018 21:33

The UK can request to join both as part of the negotiations.

faith you're making no sense at all now.

Why would we request to 'rejoin' both as part of negiotiations?

Negiotiations would be to 'stay' in both.

Either way, you've said you'd be unhappy with that.

Doubletrouble99 · 03/03/2018 21:37

In the past Frumpety we traded in wool before the industrial revolution then we traded in manufacturing goods and machinery then of course we had all the raw materials coming from the colonies that we made into manufacturing goods. Now our exports are firstly in financial services then Cars, machinery, pharmaceuticals, high quality steel and whisky to name but a few.

frumpety · 03/03/2018 21:38

Sorry Faith being pedantic , but also as I haven't heard TM's speech in full and not sure I can bring myself to spoil a perfectly nice Saturday doing so , I am having to rely on those on hear to understand what she did and didn't say .
Did she say we are definitely leaving the CU and SM ? In March 2019 ? I'm not concerned with what she says she is hoping to happen , that is neither here nor there at the moment .

bearbehind · 03/03/2018 21:40

There's some weird parallel universe thing going on here.

double our trade in financial services and car manufacturing in particular is reliant on frictionless access to the EU market.

Unless you are suggesting we go back to mainly relying on wool and topping that up with whisky Hmm

frumpety · 03/03/2018 21:42

Apologies to Double , yes I understand a little about the things we export , if we have to reduce financial services due to a loss of passporting , what other exports do you think we currently have that are capable of filling the huge void ?
The car manufacturers have already said they need free and frictionless trade between the EU and the UK for it to continue to be a viable industry in the UK .

user1471450935 · 03/03/2018 21:48
