The UK can request to join both as part of the negotiations.*
and if they all say no ....?*

Well then it would be no. Obviously.

*faith you're making no sense at all now.

Why would we request to 'rejoin' both as part of negiotiations?*

Because when we leave, an automatic result of this is losing membership of both.

Did she say we are definitely leaving the CU and SM ? In March 2019 ?

Yes.

Either way, you've said you'd be unhappy with that. [being part of SM & CU]

Yes. Because that would be BINO.

frumpety · 03/03/2018 21:53

User just think of this thread as a game of rugby , now we all know the ref said no gouging , biting etc , but we also know that in the heat of the game , the occasional bit of gouging does occur Grin

bearbehind · 03/03/2018 21:55

I'm pretty sure TM didn't explicitly say we were leaving SM/CU.

wasn't it more of the woooly language?

The only thing she's explicit on is no border in NI.

Happy to be proved wrong; where did TM guarantee were leaving SM/CU?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/03/2018 21:55

But I now join bear in being totally depressed why because by page 3 you where all fighting again

Well if posters are going to equate being a Brexit supporter to being a Nazi, and suggest that Brexit is the equivalent to the rise of the third Reich, and will lead to genocide & WWIII, then I think it's perfectly valid to call out those posters.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/03/2018 21:56

You're a racist, well no you're a nazi.

I think you'll find it was the remain contingent who were levelling both of these ridiculous slurs at brexit supporters.

frumpety · 03/03/2018 21:57

I asked ,Faith because in recent times our elected politicians have seemingly been allowed to get away with being economical with the truth and I'm not sure I would trust any of them as far as I could throw them . But if she said we are most definitely leaving the CU and SM , then I may have to take her at her word , for now Smile

Or until the next speech Wink

Moussemoose · 03/03/2018 21:59

@FaithHopeCharityDesperation

I think points were made about potential long term geopolitical effects of Brexit that may result but were not intended. Parallels were drawn with the rise of Nazism.

You paraphrasing is slightly hyperbolic.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/03/2018 22:03

I'm pretty sure TM didn't explicitly say we were leaving SM/CU.

Yes she did.

She has ruled out both.

“We are leaving the single market. Life is going to be different"

"Our future customs arrangement [must] leave the UK free to determine its own tariffs with third countries - which would simply not be possible in a customs union,"

Seriously, can you guys not use google?
Do you have to be led by the nose to everything?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/03/2018 22:04

*I think points were made about potential long term geopolitical effects of Brexit that may result but were not intended. Parallels were drawn with the rise of Nazism.

You paraphrasing is slightly hyperbolic.*

Au contraire.

LondonMum explicitly stated that Brexit supporters were Nazis.

Hasenstein · 03/03/2018 22:07

Double

" I'm not suggesting we will be able to 'grandfather' the EU's current trade deals but that we should look at gaining our own a.s.a.p. ourselves with the most beneficial to us."

Asap may not come soon enough. Trade deals take a long time to conclude.

Why would new trade deal partners want to make them the most beneficial for us? Every country looks out for its own interests, which may not coincide with ours. If we have to haggle over a new deal, it will take time we just don't have.

Doubletrouble99 · 03/03/2018 22:08

Bear - she definitely did rule both of these out that was one of the main points of it. You really have to listen to the speech. That's one of the reasons most of the leavers on here are pleased with the speech.

bearbehind · 03/03/2018 22:10

faith PMSL, you must be so proud you managed to support a comment- well done you!

However, those quotes are no way near as unequivocal as those on NI border are.

What's the difference between a customs arrangemnt and a customs union?

user1471450935 · 03/03/2018 22:10

So real reason is
Since 27th of June 2016 the EU has been ready to do Brexit deal. Still are tomorrow. It still has same principles and ideals as it did on 25th June 2016
Never once change from them. Not one of 27 governments spoke against them
Britain is truely fucked. It's so sad
Nearly 50%, definetly 33% don't want brexit. Rest don't have a bloody clue even hard liners apart from as long as we leave I am happy
Well that's fucking not good enough I am afraid. I am a turncoat, willing to accept we need to leave, but started vaguely.
Bear, Talkin, Frumpety and Agnes forced me to think. So in less than than 72 hours I researched and learnt about EFTA, and I have become obcessed by it
I truely think it could work for post EU Britain.
I want it badly. Because you all dismiss it as an alsoran, you pissed me off. Thats why I ranted earlier
Because I care for Britain, i want the best ex EU Britain possibly, not some back of a fag paper exercise. But one that will bloody work and meet most of EU needs to
If the true leavers cared that much and done proper homework, I included government and UKIP and actually had a principle stance we might get somewhere before we leave
But we don't, apart from as long as we leave. Which leads people to be actually happy for a British PM to admit we will be worst off. Thats a first in politics
Fucking grow up and go and find a principle bloody leave position. So my bloody country and therefore my kids have a future for gods sake.
If I can find one I truely believe, as an ex remainer, you leavers should have 100's of possiblities lined up you had 20 months to think about it. I had about 2 months

Doubletrouble99 · 03/03/2018 22:12

Why would any country like South Korea who I would think exports a fair amount to us not want to have a decent deal with us especially as we already have a deal via the EU and won't have to start from scratch.

bearbehind · 03/03/2018 22:12

double I watched the speech thank you very much.

I concede the language around SM was more definite but it really wasn't around CU.

I also think the SM part was to make people realise what we're losing.

SM was specifically mentioned wrt passporting. What plans do we have to lose that?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/03/2018 22:13

faith PMSL, you must be so proud you managed to support a comment- well done you!

I can support every comment I make.

Instead of ranting on these threads with half baked questions, you would benefit from actually listening to the very things you are up in arms about.

bearbehind · 03/03/2018 22:13

Go user Grin

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/03/2018 22:13

What's the difference between a customs arrangemnt and a customs union?

Google it.

user1471450935 · 03/03/2018 22:14

Actually I do obviously care. Wish the rest of you, both leavers and remainers did.
Frumpety no its not a game of rugby. My lad plays 80 minutes of hate the opposite and then shakes their hands and share food and drink with them
This is my and your countries future not some playground/field joke

bearbehind · 03/03/2018 22:15

I can support every comment I make.

Except the one about

  • blocking posters on here
  • where the technology for virtual borders is currently operating

To name but 2.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/03/2018 22:15

Not one of 27 governments spoke against them

Yes they have.

So in less than than 72 hours I researched and learnt about EFTA, and I have become obcessed by it
I truely think it could work for post EU Britain.
I want it badly. Because you all dismiss it as an alsoran, you pissed me off. Thats why I ranted earlier

Nobody dismissed it.
In fact, me and other leave posters said that we would be happy with EFTA.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/03/2018 22:16

*I can support every comment I make.

Except the one about*

*- blocking posters on here

  • where the technology for virtual borders is currently operating

🙄

I supported both.
I suggest you RTFT.

bearbehind · 03/03/2018 22:17

Google it.

Lol, you and I both know that means you can't support your comment!

bearbehind · 03/03/2018 22:18

i supported both

No, one you had to concede you'd made up and the other you just ignored.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 03/03/2018 22:19

Bear, it is not my job to tutor you on the difference between the Customs Union, and a customs arrangement.

The information you require is freely available on the internet.

You obviously have access to the internet, therefore you are perfectly able to find things out for yourself.
