This may be the last Brexit Arms thread that I will host.

It was intended to be a non-partisan and relatively light hearted thread for posters on both sides of the divide, but unfortunately this seems to have proved impossible so far.

It is not supposed to be a place for the disgruntled Remainer to use as an outlet to abuse and kick out at their perceived enemy.

I will give it one last go in the hope that things will change.

So.... onwards to Brexit....

Bear,
All are possible, actually all are already actually happening or in the pipeline.
I watched the Daily Politics, looking for Liam Fox's speech.
Lots on local government, had Bristol's mayor on it, he's a Corbynite, I think.
But he was saying lots of local governments/LEP's are now doing their own post Brexit plans, including more regional co-operation, devolution to local areas. It would appear, it's not just National government drawing up plans, said brexit is owned by all Britons and we need to make it work.
Quite interesting I thought, sadly Smile

bearbehind · 27/02/2018 20:25

user, it seems you are a post behind me.

Which of you points about Hull are specifically ONLY possible BECAUSE we are leaving the EU?

mummmy2017 · 27/02/2018 20:27

I watched that, wasn't it something about us not signing if EU cherry picked which parts they added.

Doubletrouble99 · 27/02/2018 20:30

You'll probably find it on you tube User.

user1471450935 · 27/02/2018 20:33

I don't know bear, we haven't left.
But as far as I know we/EU don't have a trade with China or Russia, we export to both, pigs, food products, plus a hinterland of many Yorkshire manufactured products.
We spent years claiming to be the "Gateway to Europe" well 35 years actually, still ended up third poorest local authority.
So now companies are starting to look to Africa and Far East, which where abandoned to trade with Europe, in fact a lot of new exporters in Hull have never exported before.

LondonMum8 · 27/02/2018 20:34

"said brexit is owned by all Britons"

Oh no no no, nice try - it's owned exclusively by Brexiters. All Remainers need is a reliable source of popcorn, provided they are into gigantic shitshows.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 27/02/2018 20:34

@Doubletrouble99 - I just watched Liam Fox's speech!

I though it was great - properly explained why remaining in a customs union is a bad idea, and articulated the opportunities & future direction really well.

His vision is my vision!

Trading blocs like the EU are 20th century dinosaurs - UK will be agile & flexible post Brexit & can help shape the future direction of globalisation.

Especially liked the developing countries, digital stuff & small/medium businesses, and the expanding middle class markets.

The sooner we break off the better Smile

bearbehind · 27/02/2018 20:34

Brexit is owned by all Britons and we need to make it work.

I don't own it, I want nothing to do with it.

In fact, I'd love it if Leavers were sectioned off and told they had to 'financially own' Brexit.

More than happy for them to split any gains between them if by some miracle they occurred, but crucially, they, and they alone would share the cost of everything to do with Brexit.

Obviously not possible but it would be great if it was.

Desperatelyseekingsun · 27/02/2018 20:37

I also think we will go and due to the totally divided government leading us I am unsure if some sort of weak deal will be cobbled together or we will just crash out.
On a personal note I would like to reassure you that only a small amount of my energy is spent handwringing on here. Having taken a long cold look at the short to medium term economic impact combined with a refusal to pay for this crazy my family has moved out of the U.K. for a few years. We plan to return if it makes sense in a few years. Most of my energy has been directed towards that. That said we are tied to the U.K. and I would prefer to have something functional to come back to.

Faith remember Point, Evidence,* Explanation.

The source is the evidence. Even when chatting this is the basis of argument.

No evidence = no argument.*

TalkinPeace · 27/02/2018 20:38

user147
But as far as I know we/EU don't have a trade with China or Russia
SORRY
HOW DELUDED ARE YOU?
We import billions and billions of pounds worth of goods from China every year
We export millions to China every year

Where do you think most computers / phones / plastic goods are made ?
Look at the bottom of most of your electrical appliances
Look inside most of your shoes

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 27/02/2018 20:39

I really, really hope none of you have children in the education system.

Won't SOMEBODY think of the CHILDREN??!!

gussyfinknottle · 27/02/2018 20:39

I don't own Brexit either.

user1471450935 · 27/02/2018 20:40

Double, thanks I will look tonight or Tomorrow.
I am still try to audience on here for the new role of Hull's Minister of Trade and Exports. Hopefully David Davis or Liam Fox are watching, I could do with a government pension/perks Grin

Doubletrouble99 · 27/02/2018 20:40

Excellent Faith. That was why I was so keen for as many leavers to see it as it's just how I feel too.

bearbehind · 27/02/2018 20:40

as far as I know we/EU don't have a trade with China

Which is why Remainers are getting so annoyed with you user

You are taking absolute nonsense about things that have nothing to do with leaving the EU, just like Leicester had nothing to do with Brexit.

Instead of quotng the most bombed city in WW2 for content for this thread, google China and Germany's trade statistics then come back and tell us why the EU prevented us from trading with other countries.

surferjet · 27/02/2018 20:40

😂

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 27/02/2018 20:41

It was very good - it's on YouTube.

frumpety · 27/02/2018 20:42

User the plain undeniable fact is , that everything good that has happened in Hull in recent times has happened whilst we are members of the EU . Anything bad that has happened to Hull in recent times has also occurred whilst we are members of the EU. What is also an undeniable fact is that the good and bad shit happened on the watch of successive UK Governments.
Where we differ is where we lay the burden of blame.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/02/2018 20:43

Let’s be honest leavers will absolutely cling to anything brexit MPs say. They’ll be fawning over May on Friday. It’s all they have.

surferjet · 27/02/2018 20:45

I’m on my way home, will youtube it asap.

Doubletrouble99 · 27/02/2018 20:47

Before jumping up and down Talkin perhaps you could have thought that user had missed out a word in the post - as is oft his way! The word being deal as in trade deal!

TalkinPeace · 27/02/2018 20:50

doubletrouble
WHAT
You think the EU does not have trade deals with China and Russia ?
Really ?
Wow, you are nearly as deluded as User.
They are not free trade deals - as Communist Countries do not do such things
but there are most definitely multiple trade deals

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 27/02/2018 20:52

I watched it on the telly, but here's a link for anyone who wants to watch it:

Moussemoose · 27/02/2018 20:54

@FaithHopeCharityDesperation

You are free to start your own Fact Based Thread,

How can I leave this thread when I am continually stunned by Brexiters lack of self awareness. You wear,as a badge of pride, the fact that you don't consider this a fact based thread, the need to evidence your arguments is dismissed, the ability to argue coherently is laughed at.

And then, and then when posters suggest Brexiters may not have thought this through opprobrium is heap upon leavers for being patronising.

How can I leave when I am having so much fun?
