This may be the last Brexit Arms thread that I will host.

It was intended to be a non-partisan and relatively light hearted thread for posters on both sides of the divide, but unfortunately this seems to have proved impossible so far.

It is not supposed to be a place for the disgruntled Remainer to use as an outlet to abuse and kick out at their perceived enemy.

I will give it one last go in the hope that things will change.

So.... onwards to Brexit....

Actually, we could bottle all the wasted angst and hatred and wasted energy of remoaners and sell it/export as a green power supply, Future of brexit Britaain sorted and global warming solved over night.
Shit better patented it quick.
Remoaners to save the world Smile

bearbehind · 27/02/2018 19:12

user, no one needs you to provide a warm welcome. It's a bloody discussion thread about Brexit. All this childish, pub thread nonsense is pathetic.

It's a thread for discussing Brexit, not for public hand wringing over a tragic situation which has nothing to do with Brexit.

Doubletrouble99 · 27/02/2018 19:13

Anyway, Back to Liam Fox, anyone had a chance to see his speech?

gussyfinknottle · 27/02/2018 19:14

I'm not triggered by discussing Brexit . I accept it's going to happen but that doesn't mean I think it was a good decision.
If you don't like hearing people disagreeing with you, I'd have a long hard look at what kind of democracy you actually want.

bearbehind · 27/02/2018 19:16

I'm on my phone so can't watch it double but I'm interested t hear if he mentioned how no CU/sm is compatible with no harder border in NI.

It's all very well and good talking about things that might happen in other markets but that question needs resolving before anything else can happen.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/02/2018 19:16

Fox has has had is limelight stolen by bojo comparing the Irish border to the London congestion charge. Political giants these people Grin

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 27/02/2018 19:18

Agree.

user1471450935 · 27/02/2018 19:33

Bear,
I didn't expect you to apologise, don't worry, but for last couple of days we have discussed positives, pigs to China, micro breweries, possible ways to renew ports like Hull.
I admit we didn't agree much Smile if anything Grin
I doubt we will Cake
But then you appear from no where and attack, then DG calls me thick. So why can't you be nice, why always you.
Surfer and Faith are correct you are a broken record.
Double, can't access video at work, found it on BBC news website, will read it now and come back, if that's okay

gussyfinknottle · 27/02/2018 19:35

Some real snowflakes outside and online tonight.

gussyfinknottle,, cheers love the snowflake joke.

Welcome, and help yourself to a pint.
Just been out, curry eaten and now need my nightly entertainment.
I think your the first too accept it will happen, for which i respect you, and yes I can understand your not agreeing to what may happen...

bearbehind · 27/02/2018 19:43

user I'm baffled about your constant attempts at trying to get everyone to play nicely.

It just demonstrates how detached from the reality of this situation that you are.

I gave up with this thread last night due to your constant, nonsensenical posts about Hull.

The EU didn't cause Hull's problems, the UK government did.

It doesn't matter, in the context of Brexit, if Hull was the most or least bombed city in WW2- that was at least a generation ago.

The final straw was the post which said things had improved in the last 5 years and unemployment was now down- in light of that happening it makes absolutely no sense for people to have protested by voting to leave.

Not once have you answered the questioned posed to you asking how Hull can realistically expect to improve outside the EU.

Your suggestions on what we can export are a mere drop in the ocean.

Neither you nor any of your fellow Leavers can provide reasoned, supported arguments for how we can actually negiotate our withdrawal from the EU, it's all just pie in the sky exporting of a bit of tartan and craft beer

user1471450935 · 27/02/2018 19:43

Ghost,
read Ryanair article,
Headline says Ryan air blames APD, in main piece they rant about APD, and then mention Brexit, it is moving most of lost flights to Edinburgh, poor I agree for Glasgow, sure Edinburgh won't mind.
See once again one part of UK GLASGOW, loses out to another part EDINBURGH.
Surely if Brexit was to blame they be moving to Ireland, France, Sweden or Denmark, ie still in EU., not just to Edinburgh.
I stand to be corrected though

Moussemoose · 27/02/2018 19:47

@user1471450935
" Leaver plays nice, remoaners call names. Lovely"

Just in case you can't spot the irony. You are calling people names "remoaner" while criticising name calling.

Faith remember Point, Evidence, Explanation.

The source is the evidence. Even when chatting this is the basis of argument.

No evidence = no argument.

gussyfinknottle · 27/02/2018 19:51

I don't know a single Remain voter in real life who thinks it's not going to happen. I know a few Leave voters in real life who think it's not going to happen. Apparently, on here, if a Remain voter says they don't like it that equals them saying it's not going to happen. And then all the insults against Remainers start. Which is actually thinly disguised fear that Leave can't deliver.

mummmy2017 · 27/02/2018 19:53

Fellow leavers we need to stop this having to prove arguments, and answers, it's not our jobs, and so we don't have the answers.
Nor do Remain it's all Conjecture.

It's a word to use when you are not sure of something and have to "guess or surmise." You can see how the word conjecture means that you create a theory or opinion about something without basing it in fact because the original definition of conjecture, from Old French, is "interpretation of signs and omens."

bearbehind · 27/02/2018 19:57

Which is actually thinly disguised fear that Leave can't deliver

I completely agree gussy

All this, 'we won, you lost', it's happening, get over it' is actually more for Leavers benefit than Remainers. They say it to convince themselves it's true.

Deep down an awful lot of a Leavers must be terrified that TM is screwing up their vision of a Rule Britannia Britain.

The reality is, completely leaving the EU was never and still isn't a viable option.

It's now just a question of how long the apron strings are, and that horrifies Leavers.

Moussemoose · 27/02/2018 20:04

Fellow leavers we need to stop this having to prove arguments, and answers

I really, really hope none of you have children in the education system. Having to prove points is the basis for all subjects. Making a point and then providing evidence and then analysing and explaining is what education is all about.

If you abandon " having to prove arguments" you are abandoning all education from the Greeks onwards.

It is a staggeringly ignorant point to make.

user1471450935 · 27/02/2018 20:05

Bear,
I gave loads of ways Hull could improve outside EU.
It's a port, it trades with the EU, EFTA, EEA and Russia, lots of Africa, even USA/Canada, though we are on wrong side of country.
We BP chemicals with close links to Japan and a massive mothballed biodiesel plant, could open to export to Africa, Far East.
We already export pigs to China, our local breweries are starting export world wide, The Humber ports already trade with most nations, so we continue and expand. We have a growing frozen food sector, easily sent around the world, 2 locally owned companies, other needs to be close to here.
We are building Phase 1, 2 is on way and 3&4 planned for Europe's biggest offshore wind farm. There are plans to build more, some will be sent to mainland Europe.
Even the most doom laden reports sees the Humber Region, as one of the least hit regions.
I accepted long ago we are leaving, so no need for angst or hatred, just talking to other leavers and remainers/remoaners.
I am looking for positives, like other leavers I only see same news as you. So will read Liam Fox report soon and wait Friday's speech.

bearbehind · 27/02/2018 20:09

I said realistic options that were possible only because we are leaving the EU.

Which of the above falls into that category user?

frumpety · 27/02/2018 20:13

He talked about how his dept. were helping small and medium sized businesses develop their ability to export and how our exports had increased in recent times.

^^ whilst still in the chuffing EU !!! Wasn't much made of the fact that those who rode into Beijing on TM's coat tails on her last jolly jaunt there ,signed up 9bn worth of trade deals , again whilst we are still in the EU.

< offers round platter of canapé's Yorkshire style , so nuts and pork scratching , dusted with salt and a jus of vinegar >

gussyfinknottle · 27/02/2018 20:13

Did you vote Leave on a hunch Shock?
All this upheaval, for a hunch?Shock

user1471450935 · 27/02/2018 20:14

See gussy and bear, I am the exact opposite I know no leaver or remainer, who thinks we will stay, after all the EU27 are planning life with us, according to you and them happily
I not bothered about May's governments/Labour's handling up to now.
As mummmy2017 say we haven't agreed anything, neither have the EU, so it's blank paper time, we all start again.
Greenland did it, are saying we can't.
Let's see, 2019, is the important date.
No one remembers who was top of the Premier League in September/Christmas, only on the final day. That's how Brexit talks will go, IMHO

TalkinPeace · 27/02/2018 20:15

user
I gave loads of ways Hull could improve outside EU.
No
You listed lots of exports that are already going on and lots of pixie dust ideas that stopped decades ago
and conflated them into a magic money tree to Make Hull Great Again

You dd not answer any of the questions about why what is happening now will suddenly make Hull rich after Brexit.
And you seem willing to trust Putin of all people

bearbehind · 27/02/2018 20:21

OK user, tomorrow the EU will issue its draft legal text on the agreements reached in December which is going to bring NI to the forefront again.

It's predicted to state that NI would need to remain in the EU in the event of no deal but the DUP aren't going to allow that.

Given that effectively rules out WTO- How do you see any other possible resolution other than BINO?

I'm not talking about want you'd like to happen, I'm talking about what is actually possible?
