*Who he ?

I'd rather listen to my mate who is the prof at a uni doing research thanks*

eu.boell.org/en/person/mark-johnston

"...Mark Johnston is a Senior Adviser on energy, environment and climate change at the European Policy Center, helping plan activities and publications in key EU policy areas. He has worked in European affairs for eleven years on a variety of energy, environment and climate-related topics. He was previously engaged as Senior Policy Adviser at the WWF European Policy Office coordinating work on power plant CO2 standards in EU policy and law-making..."

I'LOVE seeing a Brexiteer getting so worked up about the possibility that a Prime Minister might have told a porky!

LondonMum8 · 21/02/2018 20:55

Whaaat? Brexiter politicians would lie, manipulate or twist facts in support of their agenda? Never ever happened! They are the most respectable politicians in history of developed world, perhaps second to Donald Trump. It's so true they would put it on a red bus and go on a tour around the country.

In the UK it is spelt centRE
and he does not appear on their website
www.epc.eu/team.php?dept_id=7

LondonMum8 · 21/02/2018 21:08

If TM really lied about this

It's not a pure lie, it's a conditional half-truth. Everything could be fine provided an alternative regulatory framework, infrastructure, etc. are put in place. None of which exists, so of course now they are asking for an indefinite transition period LOL. What a bloody mess.

AgnesSkinner · 21/02/2018 21:11

The British Nuclear Medicine Society seems to think that withdrawing from Euratom will affect their work:

Withdrawing from Euratom will affect the arrangements for the supply and use of radioactive isotopes to industry, power generation, academia and medicine.

We share the view of the RCR that leaving Euratom will impact on the supply and cost of medical radioisotopes and would like to see greater clarity regarding the future arrangements.

www.bnms.org.uk/news/press-release-british-nuclear-medicine-society-statement-on-leaving-euratom.html

And Damian Green has already been caught out lying about Euratom and nuclear medicine last July at PMQs:

The Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) hit back after Damian Green dismissed doctors’ warnings that radioactive isotopes used in scans and treatments may no longer be available as “scaremongering”.

The Royal College of Radiologists has raised the alarm because the UK lacks reactors to produce the isotopes and relies on imports from France, Germany and Holland, overseen by Euratom.

Politicians just lie.

Have you noticed how the thread remain start, or are on alone seem to go nowhere fast..

Mummmy
Will you be happy if DD negotiates to stay in the CU ?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 21/02/2018 21:25

faithhope
In the UK it is spelt centRE
and he does not appear on their website

He appears to have bean considered real by some people - he appears on the speakers list at this, for eg
(But yeah, maybe he's just fake news, who knows).

https://www.chathamhouse.org/sites/files/chathamhouse/field/fielddocument/Agendaa%20BrusselsFinall11%20June_1.pdf

"Speakers:
Mark Johnston, Senior Adviser, Energy, Environment and Climate Change, European Policy Centre (EPC)"

TalkinPeace · 21/02/2018 21:33

He was then. Yup.
But is not now.

Out of interest faithhope
Would YOU be happy if DD negotiated to stay in the CU ?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 21/02/2018 21:45

The customs union (as now) = not permitted to make free trade deals, and still signed up to freedom of movement.

So no, I wouldn't be happy.

mummmy2017 · 21/02/2018 21:46

As said many times, lets get out of the CU and SM, and then sort something different a UK-EU trade deal.

I don't want us to be tied , I want us to TRADE.

mummmy2017 · 21/02/2018 21:48

What are you going to do when we do come out, and there is nothing left you can do but accept it?

TalkinPeace · 21/02/2018 21:49

mummmy
Which countries are we unable to trade with at present?

faith
Why do you think "free trade" deals with countries we do not currently have them with would be such a good idea?

TalkinPeace · 21/02/2018 21:51

What are you going to do when we do come out, and there is nothing left you can do but accept it?
I'll believe it when it happens
and then I'll fight to get back in
because being in hock to Trump even though I can help to vote him out is an atrocious option

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 21/02/2018 21:52

I think remaining so eurocentric is a bad idea for the future, I have a more global outlook than the diehard europhiles.

TalkinPeace · 21/02/2018 21:55

faithhope
So, the Asia pivot
Free trade deal with China .... really ?
Free trade deal with India - they have already stated what their red line is ..... I thought you wanted to reduce immigration
Free trade deal with South America ..... what would they buy from the UK after destroying our livestock

Globetrotter100 · 21/02/2018 21:55

The BMA (British Medical Association) has published a very clear statement about the impact of leaving Euratom available in full on the EU park website. Subsequent dialogue has also been published extensively eg www.bma.org.uk/news/media-centre/press-releases/2017/december/bma-responds-to-lords-committee-letter-on-euratom

The issue has also been raised, repeatedly, in the BMJ (British Medical Journal) eg www.bmj.com/company/newsroom/leaving-europes-nuclear-regulator-will-put-patients-at-risk-warns-expert/

Ditto Royal College of Radiologists, British Nuclear Medicine Society as already mentioned.

It's actually quite difficult to avoid all the real experts raising this issue...Hmm

Globetrotter100 · 21/02/2018 21:56

EU parl website, that should read.

mummmy2017 · 21/02/2018 22:05

TalkinPeace but labour don't want to go back in.

They are not going to give you a 2nd vote.

So how are you going to fight, when nothing your doing is working right now ?

AgnesSkinner · 21/02/2018 22:05

Here's a quick fact-check link, it links to other stuff within the text.

^markjohnston.org/2017/07/23/euratom-fact-check/^

What he is saying is that control of nuclear materials for energy generation is different to that of other radioactive materials. Chapter 6 of Euratom governs the supply of ores, source materials and special fissile materials to or from a member of the European Union. Chapter 9 of the Euratom Treaty provides for the establishment of a nuclear common market which effectively guarantees the free movement of people, goods, services and capital within the Euratom Community.

It’s leaving the nuclear common market that is a massive problem for the medical community.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 21/02/2018 22:06

I thought you wanted to reduce immigration

I do - but by ending freedom of movement & having a needs based system, open equally to all, not weighted in favour of Europeans as it is now.

I suppose I'm just less white-centric than diehard europhiles.

TalkinPeace · 21/02/2018 22:08

Faithhope
India want 100,000 visas a year in exchange for free trade ....
It was what Modi said when TM went out there

mummmy
Corbyn is anti EU. Most of Labour are not.
Then again nor are most of the Tories - they jut stay really quiet about it

mummmy2017 · 21/02/2018 22:11

Bu Corbyn is the Labours Big Hope, so how and you reconcile his saying out, then changing in his mind over it, like with the students and misleading them over the fees.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 21/02/2018 22:12

Most of Labour are not.
Then again nor are most of the Tories - they jut stay really quiet about it

Most of labour MPs & Tory MPs maybe - but the voters? Over a million more want to leave than to remain. We had a country-wide vote on it, I thought everyone knew that?!
