So what are you doing about it?

DGRossetti · 21/02/2018 11:42

Fine, let's roll out Trident and start a war with the US or China

Only if the US says so ... don't forget how Trident works ...

DGRossetti · 21/02/2018 11:43

surferjet - you clearly don't understand the issues if you think that people can just put it to one side and accept it

Perhaps we need to be "educated" ?

DGRossetti - whose side are you on? Grin

My son, my wife my father, my brothers and myself in that order.

DGRossetti · 21/02/2018 11:53

Which is difficult for me - the marching- because I am in Brussels

My DW has done 2 in her wheelchair. Feel free to count that for yourself Smile (It's easy to parliament, but quite a workout if you go back to Green Park ...)

BTW how are we feeling about the broad decline in employment reported today?

DGRossetti · 21/02/2018 12:24

Not very good, is it ? We lose loads of EU workers thus creating vacancies for UK workers and still can't get people into work. Hardly the "British jobs for British people" mantra is it.

Of course one reason is those departing EU workers were doing skilled jobs in STEM subjects where there's no UK qualified equivalent. (And there certainly won't be after Theresa Mays STEM education hike).

Still I look forward to the Brexiteers on this thread having their DCs medical problems addressed by recently employed UK person who is willing to "give it a go" in the name of taking control back.

London employment is UP 88,000 on the quarter and over 300,000 on the year. This is being driven by resident population rather than immigration, as previously. Job vacancies are also up.

www.ons.gov.uk/employmentandlabourmarket/peopleinwork/employmentandemployeetypes/bulletins/uklabourmarket/february2018?WT.mc_id=ccb19a06535e05a9af4f13f87d5b0429&WT.mc_id=df012492e9f9bdc88b24c332982

Productivity was up 0.8% on the quarter due to higher value for fewer hours. Wage growth ticked up from 2.4% to 2.5% narrowing the gap to falling inflation rate.

January budget surplus also beat expectations.

(The unemployment rate ticked up due to more previously inactive people seeking to join the workforce).

All looks pretty positive.

DGR Looks like there may have been an actual / perceived oversupply of professional staff driving wage stagnation in professional occupations.

"Commenting on the latest jobs data, John Hawksworth, chief economist at accountancy firm PwC, says: "The ONS has also done some additional analysis that throws light on why average earnings growth has been relatively subdued in recent years."

"Rather than this being due to rapid growth in low-skilled, lower paid occupations, it seems this has been due primarily to relatively lower earnings growth in professional and other higher skilled occupations, where jobs growth has been relatively strong in recent years." per ONS

In the context of the current quarter / year's figures

"the growth in employment was most pronounced in higher-skilled occupations such as associate professional, professional and managerial occupations." per ONS

LondonMum8 · 21/02/2018 12:47

@howabout Haha, nice spin. The headline news though is that the unemployment rate (the primary metric of concern) went up sharply despite the number of people employed increasing (meaning more people are forced to work to make the ends meet).

Real pay (adjusted for inflation) fell too.

"Between October to December 2016 and October to December 2017, in real terms (that is, adjusted for consumer price inflation), both regular pay and total pay for employees in Great Britain fell by 0.3%."

Enjoy your Brexit VR.

mummmy
having voted for what I wanted and having got it understand that I have to just let it all be legally sorted out
And if it is legally sorted out that we

  • stay in Euratom
  • stay in Europol
  • stay in the Customs Union
will you still be happy ?
DGRossetti · 21/02/2018 16:07

Never mind the leaked document about the transition period going on and on and on.....

It is rather quiet isn't it ? I wonder if all the posters are off making banners Grin

mummmy2017 · 21/02/2018 16:47

I do wonder if your all the sort to sit and think you can always get your own way, and at what point does your brain think oh wait, that's not happening.

I find talkinpeace to be very repetitive , I do think being a 4 question only person must rather limit a conversation.

TalkinPeace · 21/02/2018 17:15

mummmy
I only repeat because you will not answer ......

I take it you'll not be happy of the legal sorting ends up with staying in the Customs Union

What about Euratom .... do you want to stay in that ?

surferjet · 21/02/2018 17:41

The questions leavers get asked on here are ridiculous - it’s like sitting an exam.

Never heard of euratom - what is it?

MichaelBendfaster · 21/02/2018 17:44

No, it's like being reasonably well-informed.

Never heard of euratom - what is it?

Oh, super.

AgnesSkinner · 21/02/2018 17:44

never heard of Euratom

Seriously?

surferjet · 21/02/2018 17:45

Nope, never heard of it.
