surferjet I class myself as upbeat, progressive and positive so I’m up for that 😊

Bearbehind · 11/02/2018 10:15

Trade talks are currently being held are they not? In that case then a deal has been agreed on the border issue and at the same time we also have confirmation from TM that we are out of the CU and SM.

Eh? Did you not hear or read about Barniers speech on Friday.

He raised exactly the point that if we leave the SM/CU there would have to be a border in NI and that we hadn’t finalised what the NI border solution would be.

Also, trade talks aren’t being held; the current talks are about transition.

frumpety · 11/02/2018 10:18

I think we thought the border issue was resolved , but then David Davis made some comment along the lines of it being a suggestion and nothing written in stone type of thing .
The confirmation from TM about the CU and SM , brings to mind when a football club absolutely stands by their manager and then sacks them the next week . I don't think anything is certain at this point .

DrivenTo Despair,
Because it a cheap shot,
I am not.
Secondly it is all one way, remainers have thrown these statements out for 20 months now. But you never condemn your own fellow supporters own vile statements. I ask you proud to call people scum of the earth.
Thirdly and importantly, I came on here to discuss how to proceed forward. No chance if people call me a bigot/xenophobe, luckily I am not and it's water off a duck's back to me, I will vainly continue.
Fourthly, and nothing to do with me, But vitally important, I guess you failed to see a post from a lady on last thread, who had a history of MH problems and felt them returning, I first posted because I lost my dad to suicide from depression and she scared me. Luckily she is feeling better. But if we continue to called the other side Bigoted/xenophobic/scum of the earth with no proof, sadly venerable people can believe it.
Britain will survive brexit, in one way or the other, BUT if via stupid ill conceived words on here one person, becomes mentally ill and follows my dad, WILL I will be devastated.
Think before you speak

Bearbehind · 11/02/2018 10:22

A huge part of the problem here is people are not listening or are chiding to ignore what is said.

The NI issue wasn’t resolved, we just agreed there would be no hard border and we’d sort something out later on how that would actually work.

The instances that we will not be part of ‘the’ or ‘a’ CU threw the hard border issue into disarray.

I’ve bren trying to discuss exactly this for weeks and leavers have just buried their head in the sand.

It is a massive problem.

Bearbehind · 11/02/2018 10:24

^^ Insistences not instances

frumpety · 11/02/2018 10:25

I don't think we have any choices as the electorate Driven , if we did I might be more positive about the situation . As it stands we have no say whatsoever in what happens next , leavers or remainers , so what we end up with will be down to the current government .

user1471450935 · 11/02/2018 10:30

Frumpety,
Thanks for rugby question.
Ds1 played league from 9 to 15, both local teams and school. He is Year 9 National Schools Champion, 2013. They lost year 10 final, man of match for his team. Swapped to union in 2015, dual codes until 2016, now RU. He's a full back, playing Second/flanker. Ds2 League up to 12, now football Sad
Sorry Bear, just a proud dad answering a question.
Ps he already won a league title and reached 2 finals at union.

Surfer,
As an admittedly late converter to your stand, and feeling positive in todays sun, could I join the lagoon, please Grin

Bearbehind you know as well as I do that this thread is a failed project ( bit like the EU ) we will never get along. The Brexit Arms is just a thread to argue on, which is fine if that’s what you want? But I’ve moved on from that, arguing about the same things I was arguing about 2 years ago doesn’t do anything for me. If I had a pound for every time I’ve been called ‘brainwashed’ I’d have about 400 quid right now. But there will always be some leavers who are up for an argument, so don’t worry! This thread will carry on I’m sure. I just want to be around people positive about the future.

surferjet · 11/02/2018 10:44

user1471450935 sure you can join. Smile

user1471450935 · 11/02/2018 10:47

Bear,
I would to like discuss the Ireland situation, my first girlfriend was Irish, County Clare, in 1984-6.
Best mates at agricultural college with Lad from just south of Border 15 miles south of Enniskellen, He went to school their and lost friends. Also went a second time to college mid nineties and spent a year with 9 Irish, both sides of border, dairy farmers.
They where all lovely, all desperately wanted peace.
I not sure what to make of it,
I once met Gerry Adams' niece, and talked to her, she was lovely. I didn't know who she was, a mate on the trip to see first mate from college innocently told a lady in a bar, it nearly got me killed, unionist. My trip lasted 4 hours longer. Neither side in Ireland is blameless.
Really love to talk Ireland/Eire with you

Bearbehind · 11/02/2018 10:47

surfer I know you'll hate this comment but don't you see how cult like it is to only want to be around people who think the same as you?

I've had a bit of a lightbulb moment today actually. I was genuinely shocked at times comment above.

I know we've never agreed but I did think she was one of the more clued up Leavers round here.

For her to think that we're talking trade and because TM has said we're leaving the SM/CU the NI issue has been resolved, has astounded me.

The problem is people either don't want to listen to the facts or are choosing not to; as evidenced by surfers desire for a safe haven.

user1471450935 · 11/02/2018 10:48

Thank you surfer Grin

Bearbehind · 11/02/2018 10:49

user, if you want to discuss NI on this thread could you please do so in the context of Brexit and not your life history.

I've repeatedly asked the same question on these threads; if we leave the SM/CU how do you think we can avoid a hard border?

frumpety · 11/02/2018 10:52

User I know you are a Holderness lad , but you did mention Hull earlier , I would think it hilarious if anyone born and bred there voted to leave because of EU immigration Grin

time4chocolate · 11/02/2018 10:52

Eh? Did you not hear or read about Barniers speech on Friday

but then David Davis made some comment along the lines of it being a suggestion and nothing written in stone type of thing .

All I’m seeing and hearing is just more willy waving😉

user1471450935 · 11/02/2018 10:53

Driven;
I posted my views on positives, ended up with bigoted/racist/xenophobe statement thrown at me.
I like surfer, faith, and I would like to believe most of the population, what to look forward, now not rehash 20 months old arguments.
I have ask Bear and other remainers for their views how we go forward, question still open.
So driven I am weary of add much more
Insult people, closes down conservations, I wonder if that's pro European's last tactic now

Bearbehind · 11/02/2018 10:55

The willy waving is on our side time, the EU has and is making its position quite clear.

All we are doing is making contradictory statements, the most notable of which is the no SM/CU position and no hard border

user1471450935 · 11/02/2018 11:06

Frumpety
Sadly you are mistaken Mike Hookem, UKIP MEP is Hull based.
Up until 2007 Hull population declined, since then it's risen by 3%
The new Labour government sent 1000s of Bosnian refugee's to the city, and must of Hull's streets have Polish/Ukraine/Lithuania supermarkets on them. To be fair to them, Ds1 played league with a few, they have revitalised the city and it's empty shops.
But it's sadly a big but, sadly the Uk governments did nothing to help the communities settle, so a city with a history of little immigration felt, WRONGLY in my opinion, overwhelmed. Hull has had UKIP councillors.
Grimsby, Goole, have also had similar issues.
Hope that helps, I was born here, lived here 37 years out of 48, and people in power even in Leeds don't understand The Uk's City of Culture 2017 problems. It is sad but repeated over over Britain

AgnesSkinner · 11/02/2018 11:07

But look on the bright side Bear - we now have a load of speeches laying out a vision of the future from cabinet ministers to look forward to.

I’d enjoy Tom Hardy doing Jackanory a whole lot more.
