Ignorance is bliss?

mummmy2017 · 23/01/2018 18:05

I know the level displayed constantly amazes me.
Remain must be relying on Putin and the time machine to give them a redo...... Unicorns anyone.

Bearbehind · 23/01/2018 18:49

June 24th 2016 - the day the people who thought they knew everything realised they knew absolutely nothing.

Which would be fine if the people who then thought they knew everything, because they won, had the first idea what to do with their newly gained power - i.e. If they'd actually had a semblance of a plan.

AgnesSkinner · 23/01/2018 18:55

Bear There is a plan. A cunning plan. A plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel. Probably involving turnips.

mummmy2017 · 23/01/2018 19:02

Why can't you see that Remain lost, and should accept some of the blame for not anticipating the views which are equally as valid of the people who voted Leave.

We live in a democracy, those who where able to vote, voted, and by 1 Million people, it's not like it was one or two. People could have come out and voted there were Millions who could be bothered to registrar, and once they had they were not still not willing to vote. You can't blame the people who were interested enough to want their vote heard and turned up. You have to lay the blame where it belongs, on the I don't voters.

Bearbehind · 23/01/2018 19:05

mummy, it really doesn't matter who won or lost; those comments are now beyond tiresome; we are where we are.

What we need now is for those who chose this course to come up with a credible robust plan based on the realities of the situation instead of just continuing to insist we can have our cake and eat it.

AgnesSkinner · 23/01/2018 19:11

But, but ... we can have our turnips and eat them?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 23/01/2018 19:25

I use social media alot and you don't have to look far to find prominent right wing/far right posters. In some cases these posters have thousands of followers and are retweeted thousands of times regardless as to whether their posts are factual. It is also fairly obvious that some posters are bots.

It is naive to thing people are not influenced by social media. Advertisers, political campaigners spend plenty of money on social media. Same influence as tabloid newspapers. Nobody makes a decision in a vacuum.

Here is one prominent twitter user

mummmy2017 · 23/01/2018 19:26

All you can do as I keep saying is WAIT and see.

None of us know what is going to happen tomorrow, let alone next month, as they don't tell us, you conjectures and what if's are simply that, turnip plans.....

So turnip soup anyone.

Bearbehind · 23/01/2018 19:29

None of us know what is going to happen tomorrow, let alone next month

The problem is, that 'none of us' includes the very people who should know exactly what is going to happen; those in charge of delivering Brexit.

Because they are tasked with delivering something that is impossible to achieve, they are screwed.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 23/01/2018 19:29

mummy

We live in a representative democracy. Our elected representatives should be making decisions on our behalf not using non binding opinion polls in what amounts to tyranny of the mob.

Brexit belongs to those who voted for it, not those that didn't (you won remember?) I believe we have a duty to make informed decisions at the ballot box not merely cross our fingers and believe. Save that for the altar.

Moussemoose · 23/01/2018 19:32

But Putin did not have to influence all of the people, just enough. The margin of error was so small - US pres election and EU ref - that enough social media pressure to push a relatively few voters could swing the election.

I find the disparaging attitude towards 'the elites' worrying. I am from the left and believe that capitalism as a force is used to oppress working people. However, I still think it is essential we encourage expert thinkers and listen to what they say. You don't have to agree but the dismissal of people because they are from a perceived elite is just nonsense. The same way dismissing people because they are working class is nonsense.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 23/01/2018 19:33

All you can do as I keep saying is WAIT and see.

Jaguar Landrover aren't. They are acting. Tell the employees to wait and see or keep the faith. This is yours, you won. Don't wait and see, claim your prize. Winners get prizes.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 23/01/2018 19:36

"The elites" is Orwellian speak. The right would never consider the Royal Family to be elites but in Brexit Britain a lecturer at an ex polytechnic living in a semi in the burbs probably would.

mummmy2017 · 23/01/2018 19:39

Dear MRS May
Can you please come and explain everything to the people on this post.

Because they demand you do so RIGHT NOW....

P>S please don't hold your breath as she may be busy.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 23/01/2018 19:42

Yeah, its not like she's an elected representative/public servant or anything is it?

Bearbehind · 23/01/2018 19:43

mummmy you can make all the sarcastic comments you like; it doesn't change the fact your vision of Brexit is impossible because

  • no one knows what the consensus on Brexit actually is
  • the commitments we've already made re the NI border mean we are not going to leave the SM in reality.

I do think these threads will be interestng in 12 months when you can no longer stick your head in the sand about these facts.

mummmy2017 · 23/01/2018 19:44

Brexit belongs to those who voted for it, not those that didn't

When we have a General Election you vote, and you have to abide by the results.

We had an Election Labour lost.
We had a Referendum. The outcome was leave.
You said it wasn't what you voted for.
We had another Election Labour Lost.

How many more chances do you need to get your ducks in a row to get the result you want.

This is the will of the Electorate. The majority voted.

Now we have to wait for what happens, you don't like it fine, you dont' want it fine, but nothing is going to change. How many more times before you get it.

AgnesSkinner · 23/01/2018 19:48

I read a very apt description today of May being like a pre-Glasnost Russian leaders - they get wheeled up to a window for The People to look at, but you’re never quite sure if they’re still alive.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 23/01/2018 19:49

The general election wasn;t fought solely on Brexit. If support for Brexit was so strong and the election was only about Brexit the Tories would have got a landslide because afterall what can be clearer than "Brexit means Brexit?"

Democracy also means people continue fighting for what they believe they don't 'shut up' after an election.

time4chocolate · 23/01/2018 19:51

Agnes - Grin

Moussemoose · 23/01/2018 19:57

@mummmy2017 please don't make us explain the nature of representative democracy again.

Yes you do get re runs in a democracy. One referendum vote does not make the decision law in a representative democracy. Parliament is sovereign in the UK.

When you say "the majority voted" do you mean the majority won?

The GE is never a single issue election because we are in a representative democracy.

mummmy2017 · 23/01/2018 19:59

A miss is as good as a mile.
You keep losing and still you stand and shout.
So what plans have you made to sell up and leave the UK if we are all onto a losing wicket.
Are you moving , or will you have to just accept., and try again next time?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 23/01/2018 20:01

So what plans have you made to sell up and leave the UK if we are all onto a losing wicket.

The real patriots are sticking around in an attempt to fix this mess.

mummmy2017 · 23/01/2018 20:04

Moose you also seem to not understand what is happening in Brexit.
The greater number,.. majority.

Article 50 say we are leaving, and now they sit, talk and make plans in Brussels and London. That isn't done on MN, much as you would like it to be.
